Uncharted 4 spoiler free early copy impressions

7 hours in and I'm loving it. Taking a short food break then I'm going back in.

A bit short on big set pieces so far and Sam isn't the most interesting character, but that's about my only two complaints.

This is definitely different in pacing and structure but I like it. Not more than previous games just in a different way.

I don't fully agree with that .
Yes TLOU won them a lot of awards but UC2 is what had bigger impact on the market .
If anything TLOU got help from UC since ND became so big with the series at least sales wise.
 
Looking at my stats i've played just over 4.5 hours. I won't say what chapter I am on incase people consider that a spoiler.

This game is pretty incredible. It looks and plays so well. The character interactions and dialogue back and forth is so good. Very natural and believable. Really puts you into the experience.

The attention to detail is ridiculous too.

Also playing with the sony gold 7.1 headset with the Uncharted Collection audio profile is awesome. Way better than just out the TV

Also I still think Uncharted 2 much like DS1 had more wow moments for its time. While the gameplay of U4 and DS3 are clearly better I didn't feel they went all out with the biggest moments.
 
Picking up my copy right now. I'm busy all weekend but I'm going to squeeze it in as much as possible.

It was fun lurking in here.

Oh that makes more sense. Hmm... I don't think that was the case for me but I can definitely see it being the case for others.

Personally, I think more comparisons will be made to TLOU then UC2.

I'm only halfway through 4 but I'd rank it on par with 3 at the moment. Obviously a long way to go.

2 was just such an insane experience and so different I don't think they can do anything to top it for me. Ditto with the likes of Resident Evil 4 if we pretend that series didn't go to shit afterwards anyway :p

But yeah this game is great and I don't want to focus on the fact it's not going to be my favourite of the series. ND has hit it out of the park again.
 
Fuuuuck all of this impressions... Want to purchase a PS4 now so bad so I can play this and Ratchet and Clank but I'm broke of money at the moment :(

That's a tall order. I mean 3 games post U2 and they still haven't done that. U3 was lesser, TLOU was slightly not as good and it sounds like even with the best intentions U4 is still not on the level. U2 is like that once in a lifetime experience. I'm hoping TLOU 2 can be the one to top it.

Any reviewer that's saying the gunplay that the gunplay in UC2 is better than UC4 needs to STFU and just stop commenting on these things.

I think TLOU is as great as 2 but in a totally different way. In terms of experiences I'd put them on par and I think ND will have a hard time topping it in the sequels as they have with 2.

But I can't wait for them to try!
 
I flip flop on whether I like TLoU or UC2 better. Like in my heart I think TLoU is the better crafted game with a lot less moments you could point to as being flawed (ala the final boss, blue dudes, etc) and the story is a big step up, but UC2 is so compulsively playable. It's paced so well once you start playing you don't want to stop, and the more fast paced combat and lower stakes can be liberating

It's like apples and oranges really. Too different to be able to fairly compare, but both practically perfect.
 
At first I didn't like the first chapter, but hours later I think it was really good. Not TLOU good, but good.
I'm in Ch10 now and I love this game. Could be the best Uncharted yet, I even got a rocket fetish from it. Always hated how games textured rocks poorly, but this is porn level rocks and rope :D

Im more in agreement here. The scope of game play and non scripted action sequences mostly outdo anything from the original 3. Playing 2 is realy, really rough right now after 4 was finished. After a week or so of being finished I'm gonna say it's the best game Naughty Dog has made. Just too much improvement and refinements to the franchise to ignore or see the others as highly without nostalgia playing a big factor.

See I think Uncharted 3 tops Uncharted 2 in terms of set pieces and scenarios. Despite that it's still not the better game.
 
I guess I don't gave 2 in that high regard as some of you guys because this SHITS on UC2.


and holy fuck Crushing is insane

but the encounter design, level design and gunplay combine with the much improved traversal is so damn good man.

also, replaying some of the encounters on normal, it's so easy, especially the stealth, I recommend hard if you guys appreciate a challenge in your games.

The score during the calm sections is pretty nondescript, feels similar to how they implemented it in TLOU, but without the guitar twangs.

My opinion on the music in the past Uncharted games, I don't really have an opinion. It was fine, but nothing really that memorable. I didn't have a strong attachment to it, like some here seem to.

what are the key differences between Normal and Hard? Like could you play one Encounter on Normal than Hard then compare them. Health, AI aggressiveness/how they see you in stealth mode, amount of enemies, types of enemies, that kind of thing
 
At Chapter 10: The game starts incredibly slowly but treats the players to a huge variety of beautiful environments and great characters interactions. The game feels gargantuan.

It's utter eye candy and will dominate the Console Screenshot thread for months purely to how robust the new photo mode is.

yeah, I don't feel like U4 touched what you're talking about. But the story and gameplay enhancements cannot be denied. They're great.

main difference is definitely enemy aggression and awareness.

In hard mode, enemies seemingly are constantly on the move trying to flank your position and as such I have to be on the move to get better position. In normal, the enemies definitely move around but not as often or aggressively.

Also in normal mode the enemies don't pick up on your movements while in stealth that well, I'm not %100 sure but I just did an encounter in normal mode and was hiding in some tall grass maybe 6 inches away from 2 enemies(also in the same grass) and they couldn't notice me, in hard mode and above enemies definitely notice your moves in the grass more and will move to interrogate.

You can trigger more enemies in an encounter but I believe that has more to do to your approach(silent vs loud) than the difficulty but I'm not really sure.

Eh, haven't played DS3 yet but by far the most common complaint I've seen is that it plays it too safe and doesn't change up the formula at all. While with UC4 it seems like most feel like it pushed those aspects about as far as they could within the Uncharted frame work. UC3 was the one that played it too safe and I don't really think that was the case with Dark Souls 2.

TLOU while an amazing game for me has always lacked the umph of U2. TLOU had me like wow this is freaking great the entire time, but nothing made me go holy fucking shit balls my god like in U2. And I guess that is the spectacle part and TLOU was never meant to have that. That said now that I think about it more I can see how they are equal yet different experiences. Which makes it a tad unfair to compare U4 to TLOU as they should be going for different things.
