Pokémon Sun and Moon Starters Revealed. Releases November 18th 2016.

It takes place in Hawaii, so a lot of poison pokemon will be prevalent(in forests). Litten also produces oil from its skin. Being fire/poison would also help distinguish it from Houndoom, who is Fire/Dark
What poison animals are especially prevalent in Hawaii? AFAIK they don't even have a significant number of (or any?) venomous snakes. I'm not buying it.

Anyway, it would be cool if we got a nautilus Pokemon that was like a bunch of ooze leaking out of a rock shell. Rock/poison or some shit.

I suppose, but either they're going to have to implement scaling to solve the game balance issue

All they have to do is put this in the game dialogue. It already makes sense for the world (what about all the trainers who start their journey from the strongest city?).

Here's the best way to predict their evolutions:

First, picture what you think they'll become.

Now, imagine the complete opposite.

Bingo! That's their evolution!
What like Froakie becoming a Ninja frog? That one was pretty obvious from the start. Oshawatt becoming an ugly turd was also obvious from the beginning

Most of the fakemons predicting the final evo for Froakie depicted him as a fat toad with a great billowy bubble-beard. In fact, I don't recall seeing a single fakemon that predicted Froakie's final form would ditch the foam altogether.

When Greninja was leaked everyone thought it was fake.

"That tongue is so overdesigned. Looks legit fakemon. Where are the bubbles?"

I'm not too happy with the current state of the graphics. When they used sprites they had a AAA, definitive look. One that many companies tried to imitate. Their transition to 3D leaves them with a game that kind of looks like a generic kids 3ds game.

Im glad the groundwork is being laid for epic graphics in later gens, but overall everything looks generic. I think it's the trainer designs

I know it'd be harder to set-up events, but this is the one thing I personally feel is missing from the games. Picking a city of origin, getting different starters based on where you start. Even if it's not a completely open order (maybe 1 or 2 different gyms before it gets linear again), I feel it'd add a lot to the early-game.

In tropical areas, yes. Snakes and spiders. The region looks like a tropical area, so I could see poison types.

RIP, I just noticed my post you quoted was incomplete, the two sentences aren't actually meant to be related.

What I thought I had written was what you said, there have been 3 families of grass/flying and only one has been good, and that good one was a legendary, so my hopes for Rowlet being good are in the toilet.

They really did Jumpluff dirty by not giving it Prankster. They pretty much just made a superior version of it with Whimsicott and left it to rot. :(

I still love you Jumpluff.

I miss the chibi overworld style already.

The old games overworld sprites were always chibi style compared to the portraits, in classic RPG fashion.

might as well be yokai watch now

As long as the character is still small enough on the screen that we can see a big chunk of the world around us, I'm good. But the video shows a lot of topsy-turvy zoomed-in action on the character which will really do my head in when I'm trying to explore.

Didn't even know you could get those badges in gen 2 out of order lol

But are you sure gen 3 and 4 are non-linear? Its still funneling you down a path, just not a straightforward path right?

Gen 3's fairly linear. The main story path is linear but you have a few exploration options. You can return from fallabor either the way you came or via meteor falls, and you have the desert, verdanturf town, the route below mt pyre, shoal cave and pacifidlog as optional points irrelevant to the main path.

Gen 4 depends on the version. DP let's you double back after Solaceon Town and tackle Pastoria before you take on Veilstone's plot stuff. Platinum rejigs the story to be far more linear (Game Freak said the children were getting confused), but both versions still have a ton of side areas in caves and such with optional areas that open up with HMs.

There are literally no snakes native to Hawaii, and no venemous snakes invasive in Hawaii.

There should be more poison types in literally every other region. You're thinking of PokeAustralia.

I'm not buying it.

I expect a handful of Hawaii inspired new pokemon and the bulk to be completely unrelated to Hawaii after that
Pretty much. They're not going to limit themselves by trying to recreate Hawaii's (very limited) ecosystem. The vast majority of species in Hawaii are invasive, anyways.

What games tried to imitate Pokemon sprites?

The ones I can remember are Robopon and Telefang.

Digimon/Monster Rancher etc didn't seem like they were concerned with the Pokemon graphics.

Gamefreak doesn't have to- and probably won't- stick strictly to Hawaii. They can incorporate other ideas/regions.

It also doesn't have to be snakes. There are spiders, scorpions (although rare) and other animals.

Right... But that completely discredits the idea that it makes sense for the new region to have lots of poison types 😅

If you want to use the region to support typing, poison should be right before ice as the least likely typing. Anyway, my guess is Fire/Electric or simply Fire.

That makes sense yeah

All sorts of mobile RPGs and indie games. I mean it was basically the definitive grid based sprite rpg

I hope they make Magearna available worldwide when they eventually distribute it.

And Mega Vaporeon needs to happen. Hell, give a mega to each eeveelution after adding a few more of those.

Litten looks cute! I'll definitely be grabbing him as my starter! Also I really like the aesthetics of this game so far. Not so much the designs for the legendaries though...They look kinda...dumb.

They should fill up some of the double type holes. I think there's no Grass/Fire, Ice/Bug, Ice/Fire, Bug/Dark, Electric/Grass, Electric/Fire, Ice/Electric Pokemon. And there should be at least one other Water/Fire other than Volcanion because its ugly with all those sharp edges and that hoop on its back.

For some reason, I imagine Surf will be the first HM you get in this game.

I'm more concerned about when we get Soar.

...Actually, I'm making the assumption that we get Soar, and that might not be a safe assumption to make. But it damn well should be. Soaring across the new archipelago would be the best.

This should definitely be a thing. Opens up the adventure to the player's choosing. Makes even more sense because it's not like you are forsaking a great story for an open world.

Umbreon's Leafgreen pokedex entry straight up says it secretes poisonous sweat but it's still not a poison type, so this argument doesn't hold much water to me.

Ugly, but all three are still better looking than Oshawott.

That's nice, although Elite Four still doesn't make any sense.

I could see you relying on boat patrol for the first few islands before you get Surf halfway through the game
I think the player will just have to ride the waters on a Surfboard/Paddleboard as per Hawaiian culture. It defeats the purpose of basing the game on the islands if you need to rely on Pokemon to carry you out to water. It'll be such a dumb move if ocean movement is still restricted in this one.
