Pokémon Sun and Moon Starters Revealed. Releases November 18th 2016.

You don't understand. GF can make any point in the game challenging. They just choose not to. It has nothing to do with the game mechanics but everything with the game structure.

Yep it comes down to AI levels and AI moves and behavior.

This whole thing just came round full circle. Someone suggested a change to the game structure, I said I'd like that but certain things would need to be rebalanced to reflect that change.

Depending on how far they go with this (and considering N flew away to a "faraway land" and happens to be in New York, which probably isn't too far away from Hawaii in-universe) they could always revisit the trainer-Pokemon relationship again. If anything, I almost see a captivity theme with these starters: Popplio is trained to perform like a circus seal, Rowlet could be representative of a common (but intelligent) household bird who can talk or at least put on a show as it's instructed, hence the bowtie, while Litten's fire-typing / black cat appearance / possible connection to alchemy with the sulfur symbol make me think of witchcraft, people being burned at the stake, etc. and could be more of an Absol-esque "fell in with a bad crowd" / "guilty by association" type of Pokemon who has to be convinced it can grow into something more than the sum of its parts.

This thread is running in circles.

Can't wait to see the Pikaclone.

Problem with people guessing final evolutions is that it looks too much like their first form, just bigger with more details.
Never forget

Except Chesnaught is better than any fan art guessing Chespin's final evo.

What the fuck kind of backward universe are we living in where Chesnaught is a bad design? It's terrific.

Oh yeah, one thing I loved about kalos starters were the signature moves, magical fire was kinda eh, but water shuriken and spikey shield are really cool.

Quilladin did nothing wrong, you people and your "cool/badass" obssesion overlook some of the cutest and more fun designs and it's truly sad.

Surely if Litten is meant to be a tiger they wouldn't have had its name be a play on kitten but rather the correct words for a baby tiger, cub or whelp.

I adore Chespin, and didn't think there was anything wrong with Quilladin, but Chesnaught looks pretty awful to me. The general design isn't that bad, it's just the colour scheme. This really can't be posted enough:

It fixes...pretty much everything I dislike about the design, and it's only a few colour changes.

One thing I'm curious about is how many new pokemon we can expect with this game. There's 9 from the 3 starters, the 2 legendaries, probably the usual trio and maybe 2-3 early ones in the first area to catch. It'd actually be really cool if we got a really large number of new ones but I imagine the chances of that are likely slim.

Sadly the same universe where Blastoise is considered a good design by the majority of the fanbase.

People are crazy.

I just realized that Litten is def going to become bipedal. Every single fire starter has become bipedal

I expect nothing less. At the least I hope its both just like Purrloin.

There aren't any color changes here, though. The colors are just adjusted for lighting.

Wonder what our electric rodent will be this Gen?

Pikachu is GOAT, but I think Emolga is the only one to match its greatness. Parichisu is okay... but meh.

My friend flip flopped for Sun, so now I have to get Moon.... I guess I'll get Lord Zubat :P

Well that doesn't make much sense because why would you own a raft then.

How about this one: HMs work like TMs for battle moves, so they're deletable now, but owning a HM is like owning the raft key item you're describing. You own the HM and any Surf compatible Pokemon now has the ability to use Surf in the overworld, with no need to actually to teach it. Teaching is only for if you want to use it in battle.

This is still a bad solution. Why the fuck do I always need to have a bird Pokemon and a water Pokemon in my party to make the game not unenjoyable? Fly and Surf are basically musts. That's 2 slots of my party taken up.

I should be able to adventure with any 6 I want. But nope. Gotta have that bird Pokemon because fuck me if I don't want to spend hours backtracking.

The idea of replacing HMs with items is awful. You have these superpowered monsters in your pocket and instead of using them to interact with the world and solve problems you use regular every day items. How boring and uncreative.

Oh my bad. I thought the games were about adventuring and battling. Not about having to carry a shitty bird Pokemon I have no interest in just to make sure that I don't have to spend obscene amounts of time whenever I need to get to a previously visited location.

Or having to dig out that shitty level 3 rattata from my box whenever one area in the middle-late game needs Cut. Yeah, how fun and creative.

Someone needs a dose of Pathos. >_>

A turtle growing artificial human weapons out of nowhere is far from fine. Only reason he gets a break is because he's a Gen 1 darling. Blastoise has been bad since 1996.

That is weird. Blastoise is still better than Charizard and Venusaur though.

surely this is a bannable post
You can't be banned for objective analysis of a bad design. :P

It's a crime because Wartortle looks so nice, too ;^;

Venusaur is the best of the final evos for the Gen I Starters because it's not generic as heck (fire dragon) and doesn't randomly get new elements that make it look weird and awkward (shell guns)

You always find a mon that can fly and surf.

Bonus! Baby Chespin

I like Chestnaught's design, but what I don't get is the change to white when the first two evolutions are brown hedgehogs and not pygmy hedgehogs. And to be honest, Chesnaught looks better keeping the same color scheme of the previous forms.

EDIT: I also felt the evolution was natural. Many fan redesigns depict Chesnaught more like a mole or something than a hedgehog.

The white parts are the outside of the chestnut shell. Its not Chestnaught's skin, but rather it's armor. It's one of the more clever evolutionary lines I think, and I hated Chespin originally.

Anyway, I've only known about Rowlet for more than a few hours but I feel like I've known him my entire life.

We are still missing Naked Mole Rat, Hamster, Chinchilla, Guinea Pig, and Capybara for potential rodents.
Electric/Water Capybara would be great. Make its species definition the "Fish Pokemon" so you can eat it for lent.

Way to ignore the other half of my post.

Yes, you shouldn't have to drag around HM slaves or use specific pokemon just to progress in the game. No, they should not remove the ability to interact with the overworld using your pokemon.

There should be options on how to approach certain overworld obstacles. Any pokemon with any sort of cutting ability should be able to cut down a tree, but if you don't have any pokemon like that, there should also be a longer way around. There should be large bodies of water to surf across, but if you don't have a water type you should be able to walk around or take a boat.

Flying is obviously a necessity and should be the exception. Thankfully, ORAS already solved this problem with soaring. There should be a soaring equivalent in every game.

This and the evee evolution are what I look forwards to.

Don't expect any eeveelutions this gen, it's typically only even numbered generations we get them:

Gen 2: Espeon and Umbreon
Gen 3: Nothing
Gen 4: Leafeon and Glaceon
Gen 5: Nothing
Gen 6: Sylveon

Of course they could break the pattern but seeing as in Gen 6 we only got one Eeveelution rather than the usual pair - and even then was probably only to promote the brand new Fairy Type - I wouldn't bank on it.
