Doesn't PS4K being announced at E3 depend on whether it is an additional higher model to the current PS4? That and Sony's explanation of their thinking behind this move.

If PS4K is to replace the current PS4 and be the only console/SKU for sale at time of release then I can see them waiting till a ~month before launch like they've done with slims before announcing it.

Announcing a PS4K months in advance would hurt the regular PS4's sales for sure over that period of time.

It's best to announce the PS4K as close to release as possible.

It doesn't even make any business sense to announce PS4K at E3 if it is set to release at fall. They will kill their sales for a whole quarter if they did so. It needs to be a Saturn type announcement, where they reveal it, and say it's in stores now.

It might make sense if it's done in concert with a price drop on the normal PS4.

What are you on about? Plenty of people are excited about those games.

Those games don't exist yet? Yes... they do. Like... what?

*goes to store* yep they don't exist.

Don't think you know what exist means. Being made =/= existing.

Also no the excitement is gone. Those games will have some hype in their initial sales. FF is the safest bet of selling well just because it's FF.

Even after the E3 conference there was massive confusion, backlash, and disappointment over things like the Soy Kickstarter and Sony not funding the game, the similar TLG trailer and no information, FF7 having an estimated launch of 2017 were swirling around, complaints and backlash about the games being shown early for no reason. That week was hard to keep up with people were going nuts.

Now even the most hyped that were being a defense force a couple days and a week or so after E3, have not been saying anything outside certain gaming boards such as here. It makes perfect sense to, how much of that Internet hype will at E3 will actually go buy SHenmue 3? Not many, we know this is actually true, but people keep acting like these game announcements were something MANY people wanted outside FF7R, and would be huge deals when they come out. Really? I remembere arguing on some boards with people and half the guys hadn't even played the previous shenmue. ALso don't forget when FF7 was announced to be episodic, that was crazy too.

Still doesn't.

  • Sony gets an opportunity to spin messaging on the biggest stage.
  • PS4 sales are certainly already being hurt a bit by rumors/leaks re: (Neo).
  • Price drop (presumably to $299 should help sales of the standard model, while the premium is advertised as the holiday season's new hardware at $399.

I'm not saying this is airtight and perfect, but they only have so many options right now. Bringing the Neo to E3 isn't a bad one.

Not if Sony sell/market the PS4K as the Elite model and PS4 (at $100-$150 less) as the standard model?

I would agree if the PS4K is a slim with more power and current PS4 is run out and discontinued.

If Sony say nothing at E3 then it would definitely point to you being right, though.

Once the news hits the big stage and receives official confirmation that's when it begins to be a legit problem.

Right now it's just a rumor on message boards etc., mostly discussed by gaming enthusiasts. No big deal.

I didn't say that definitively, it's just what I'd heard but wasn't fully confident in. It could very well show up at E3. In fact I'm leaning towards it being there now.

Shinobi, while we have you here: how certain are you of the Horizon delay? Is there any chance the game makes it this year?

I would imagine people deciding not to buy a PS4 until the more expensive model is out wouldn't be a huge problem for Sony. This isn't like announcing a price cut a month in advance

Just because someone is looking forward to a game, doesn't mean they are a defense force. And are you really saying it's odd people are only discussing video games on video game forums? What were you expecting, people standing on streetcorners holding up signs saying "The Last Guardian is coming?"

Doesn't work. For one you are asking them to drop the price likely tot he point where they take a loss on the original PS4.

2, the reason that the tiers worked for the 360 was because all it was, was some slight cosmetic changes, and increased memory, the PS4k, has that, and is more powerful, and has separate dev tools. Also for max experience you need a 4K TV, Which is what they seem to be pushing, instead of you know, also pushing 1080p, 60fps (finally) on a consoles in 2016/17.

Agreed, I like many others am excited about the FFVII Remake, but that doesn't mean I have thread or postworthy thinks to say about it at this point in time

Uh, they literally exist now and historically not being big sellers is exactly why their place at a show like this was special. Plus E3 is about gaming's horizon, not about what you can purchase the day after.

It's amazing how many people have no idea what "exists" means.

Just because someone is looking forward to a game, doesn't mean they are a defense force.

You didn't even read the post, all you had to do is take that sentence you bolded and apply it to this:

Even after the E3 conference there was massive confusion, backlash, and disappointment over things like the Soy Kickstarter and Sony not funding the game, the similar TLG trailer and no information, FF7 having an estimated launch of 2017 were swirling around, complaints and backlash about the games being shown early for no reason.

That's what they were defending, not "looking forward to games" they were defending the confusion and backlash.

In three weeks we'll have answers either way.

What are these separate dev tools? Not heard about them.

My predictions as of now.

First Party
God of War 4
Bend's game
Horizon (delayed to 2017)
TLG (delayed to 2017 lol)

Third Party
Destiny stuff
Crash Bandicoot by Activision. PS1 Crash games coming to PS4 with trophies and 1080p ala PS2 on PS4
Rise of the Tomb Raider gets a spot and is bundled with something.
Random Ubisoft game. Watch Dogs 2 or something else.
Saints Row 5

VR
No Man's Sky
Battlefront VR experiance
Something from double fine
A Ubisoft game.
Plenty of ports of Oculus / Vive stuff
Random old Sony franchise returns as VR. (Ape Escape, Jumping Flash or something)
Awkwardly long amount of time spent talking

+ Indies

+ PS4 price drop but no PS4K. OR PS4k and no PS4 basic pricedrop until Gamescom or PGW

Nah I doubt Sony will waste there time with Tomb Raider at this point, its been over a year and its all SE job to promote it.

They just show Uncharted 4 DLC instead.

... what are you even doing?

So they said words people liked. Also no neither of those games exist yet. Also that hype will not translate to sales to either of those 3 games, in fact, right now any excitement is gone.
Both of those games have at least over a year and a half until they release. Why would the developers/publishers to be pumping the gas on hyping those games without a release date? Building excitement for games means putting it through peaks and troughs until a final push on release.

I don't get the "they don't exist" argument either. They're in development. There are screenshots, interviews, video, development updates. They exist.

EDIT: Just seen the above posts from the same poster. If this aint' bait, they've certainly got a chip on their shoulder about something.

What's GAF consensus on the NEO? Cohabiting the market with it's little brother or replacing it on shelves entirely?

There are over 40 million PS4 owners out there, wouldn't be a good idea to piss them off.

An upgrade option that exists alongside the original model is another story.

It's amazing how many people have no idea what "exists means".

How does it feel to be in that group. I'm guessing you have a very slim definition of "exist" that would place a lot of games in an existential limbo.

You don't define "playable" as exist. Clearly. Since we know there are segments of those games that can be played. I think your definition of "exist" is closer to "purchasable at a store at my convenience" which is hardly a definition of exist that's worth discussing.

Nah I doubt Sony will waste there time with Tomb Raider at this point, its been over a year and its all SE job to promote it.

They just show Uncharted 4 DLC instead.

If Crash is there and it seems like Tomb Raider on PS4 will be going for a bit of a 20th anniversary of TR push I can see it making the cut as some weird "hey remember the PS1" thing

Putting 2 and 2 together I could totally see Sony officially announcing PS1 classics on PS4 finally.

Game not being released yet =/= Not existing. Stop changing definitions to suit your agenda.

The excitement is gone for you. You do not speak for others. Not only are you trying to claim your opinion is representative of everyone's, you're being absolutely hyperbolic with the 'massive' confusion and backlash nonsense.

Random crazy thought: Think maybe Media Molecule has a second, smaller project in development?

Tearaway was made by only 17 people while the bulk of the studio worked on Dreams. It also came out in 2013 and they had assistance from I believe Tarsier for the PS4 version. The director, Rex Crowley, left but I don't think it would be farfetched to think they kept that group together and have something smaller scale in the works. It would also make sense and help generate some revenue while Dreams goes through what I would expect will be a very long beta process.

If this fantasy is true it would probably be a Gamescom announcement though.

Were any of the ps2 tomb raiders good, i could see a ps2 classic tomb raider free for preorders

Why would the developers/publishers to be pumping the gas on hyping those games without a release date?.

They have release dates?

Or if that's not what you meant, releasing the game a lengthy time after hyping them up and getting people excited is a very good way to drown out hype. It's why people say don't announce things and then release them later. For example. if PS4k was announced last dec 2015 at PSX, I bet itd be a costly mistake.

It's amazing how blinded you are by your own bias. None of the things you mention apply to general consensus back then or now. Fighting over semantics won't help your argument either.

I don't have a bias, that's a cop-put. Those games do not exist, those games are not able to be brought at this point in time, they are still in development they are not finished. Thus they do not exist. It's always that way for everything else video games do not get an exception. The guy belows "playable" example is irrelevant because that's not how it works. Playable of a game not available and not yet finished and not yet what they want it to be. Being made =/=exists, again VG's do not get a special exception.

Now imo, I actually played Shenmue 1 and 2. I like both games, even though they have quite a few bad issues in a few areas. Shenmue 3 being made is a bit exciting to me, but I'm not crazy and going to believe that all that hype around it's announcement was really legit or will translate to sales. It's Shenmue.

C'mon son. Read it again. They don't have release dates.

You're talking like you expect hype to remain fever pitch until release or else they've done something wrong.

I don't think that's been true at all this generation.

I'm pretty sure UC4 just released to about as much hype and anticipation as it wouldve before delays.

The same will happen with the Trinity.

A platformer on the side as Dreams is getting developed would be awesome.
