Polygon: Xbox Scorpio will be a ~6 TFLOP system (v PS4K's 4.14), unveil soon, Fall 17

At launch PS4 is powerful and cheaper than Xbox One. It is one of the reasons that PS4 more popular.

Let see if Scorpio will do the same.

No way, with 4k tvs going mainstream and if VR takes off, which is heavily dependant on high resolution and high framrates. Sony needs at least 7nm chips for the performance needed at an affordable price point. No sooner than holiday 2020, ps4k gives them the boost in momentum and the performance needed until ps5 makes since. 4.2tflop gpu in a close box is nothing to scoff at.

I certainly won't argue with that, I do actually agree, was merely thinking of alternatives. The scenario you described seems just about right.

If you really wanted to cover your bases, you would have to get an NX as well. However, some people don't want to deal with PCs which is understandable.

I sold my Xbox One last year and I welcome this news about all future exclusives coming to PC. I do hope that they port some of their older titles like Sunset Overdrive that existed before the UWP push.

Sunset overdrive is coming to pc this year I believe

MS has been setting this up for years look at BC and tight coupling with win10.

If all games will work with 2 iterations of xbox and pc, that's a strong ecosystem.

The idea is more than 2 iterations. Think of how iOS works when it comes to how many phones back it can be installed on, and apply it to game compatibility

Seems like we're back to the PS2 era, meaning the world is Sony's until they mess up again.

Xbox being the most powerful console won't swing anything away from them, when they have such a market lead. And if the Neo really launches 8 months to a year earlier than Scorpio, well, it'll be like Microsoft went boozing and showed up 3 hours too late to their surprise birthday party. Only their most hardcore will be there to light the candles.

Yeah absolutely. What can MS possibly win with this even in the most unrealistic scenarios?
- they are killing Xbox One sales at one point
- even if Sony stops selling any Playstations after Scorpio's release. What then?
MS can maybe sell 10-15m consoles at best in 1-2 years riding the power-hype-train until Sony unleashes PS5 in 2018 (if PS4+Neo sales drop due to Scorpio) or 2019 (they are keeping the dominance). And if power is the be all end all, Scorpio will get trashed after 1 or 2 years. MS is caught in a loop of Sony headstart and anticipation for the next iteration.

I will definitely buy Sunset Overdrive on PC. I can see people leaving the MS E3 conference: "Everything was Windows 10"

Man, I can't wait to see how good the 360 emulation is on this. I wonder if it would enable them to add more upgrades to those games that the Scorpio console is capable of handling.

Someone should edit this out saying Neo and Scorpio.

Agree that UC4 looks glorious (especially considering the massive levels), though at times (in certain lighting) it can exhibit a few rough edges that remind me of the PS3 era UC games. 1886 is not a complete game, tho I've never been more impressed from a visual standpoint. Sad they won't get an opportunity to further develop that world.

Hmm, I don't recall any of those moments of poor lighting, but I'll take your word for it.

I think my lack of enjoyment for The Order also made me overly harsh on other aspects of it.

Perhaps they'll make a spiritual successor someday.

Source?

I hadn't thought about it like that, although the BC is indeed impressive and I'm using it a lot more than expected.

For me to go back to a MS console as my main, MS would have to take the clunk out of the Xbox' OS. If the OS still feels bad, doesn't support languages in different regions well, I don't care about the teraflops, it'll just be a flop for me. Also, what does more power matter, when MS isn't investing as much in first party development?
See, OS was a big reason for my switch to Xbox. Everyone has different priorities when it comes to the OS, and for me MS was doing everything I had waited years for Sony to implement. When it comes to software Sony moves at a snail's pace, and that isn't going to work out too well in an iterative ecosystem. They are either going to need to dramatically bolster their system software development, or they are going to get left behind.

I was just being optimistically conservative! If more than 2 iterations then heck yeah.

Why would you think it isn't still coming?
This might be slightly off topic at this point but mainly because we've had little to no info on it. It's not that I don't think they are coming merely asking what happened to it. That and recore which was meant to have released in spring might even mean shifted development to another platform. Anyway thought pathfinder had some info it will be at E3 but I guess not.

lol didn't they say that was a mistake?

Don't get me wrong, I'd love it, but I feel like Insomniac and MS have moved on.

Yeah that was a goof.

I could see SO being ported as some point but I'm sure it's not a high priority right now.

Xbox actually outsold the Gamecube. Just putting that out there.

By like 3 million consoles, and still didn't come anywhere close to the PS2. Gamecube hit 21 million, Xbox was 24 million, PS2 finished with over 155 million.

Besides, it still doesn't change the fact that it was the most powerful console that gen and it still lost (second place is the first loser), not to mention the insane about of money MS lost on it.

It's clear Phil already did this in March. Why intentionally leak specific hardware details weeks before you announce them.

Well, he did comment about this in a tweet, preemptively, with no questions asked to him. For a company that, "does not comment on rumors"...

So yeaaaaahhhhhh...

Who is going to buy an Xbox One this year if next year they can buy one that's four times as powerful for $100 more? At least if Sony announces the Neo at E3, the Neo will be coming out this year and will probably be framed as a second tier of PlayStation. Microsoft would have to significantly mark down the Xbox One *this year* to not have a negative impact on current sales.
Hold up, this doesn't make any sense. You can apply this logic to the PS4 and PS4 Neo. Why bother w/ PS4 in the next few months if I can buy one that's 2-3 as powerful for $100 more?

What MS is doing here doesn't completely write the XBO as we know it out of the picture, either; it's just adding more "tiers" to the Xbox family....the exact same thing Sony is doing. Perhaps more ambitious in some ways when you think about it, just going off the info we know out there so far.

Cheaper and more powerful than Neo? Only reason why the PS4 was cheaper is because it didn't ship with a $150 brick

GAF thinks AG is trustworty now?

6 tflops is Nvidia 1070 level of performance.

A discrete GPU card.
16nm FinFET, 7.2 billion transistors
1506MHz base clock
Maximum GPU Temperature = 94 Celsius
Graphics Card Power = 150W
Recommended System Power = 500W

Only possible if Xbox 2017 means windows 10 on the next alienware pc. or can we confirm MisterX is the source for Kotaku and Polygon?

I just need to know more information . When it comes to neo the rumor of PS4 games have to play on the Neo could be a huge difference if the Scorpio starts a new generation of games . Very interesting what will happen though

I can see them announcing OG Xbox BC coupled with this.

They'll package up the OG Games in a UWA which means your entire Xbox collection travels with you forever. This is one way they ease the pain of incremental upgrades.

If you know that your entire history of Xbox games will follow you forever (theoretically) it makes upgrading more regularly a far easier pill to swallow.

This is more believable than anything that comes from misterxmedia

I mean their "original hardware guru" mistercteam thinks the xbox one has 48CU and is like a 5.2 tflop console.

Cant't compare TFlops of NVidia to AMD. Dont scale the same.

Will get an Xbox again when this launches again. I take it the inevitable PC versions of Gears 4 and Scalebound will play like shit so a more powerful console would be nice to get them running well.

True. Not disputing any points of yours here; the poster I quoted made it sound like Xbox also sold less than Gamecube, which isn't factually true.

And I mean, fwiw, PS3 has outsold 360 WW, but I don't think that game is much larger than between Xbox and Gamecube tbqh. We don't have official numbers, but I can't imagine the gap being any bigger than 7000-10000k between them.

So Microsoft is going to announce an upgraded Xbox One at E3 that won't be available until late next year? How does that sound like a good idea to anyone at MS?

The rumor is that they will announce the slim this e3 and this Xbox One Two was alleged to be announced in early 2017 and probably released later in 2017 ....but it was leaked now by some people to be in the works. But this was not supposed to be announced yet or even soon, allegedly

Dang what if current games like halo 5 will be fwd compatible and run 1080p60 or 4k30?
No reason why they can't patch it for 1080p60, 1440p60, or 4k30/60(?) on this supposed 6TF system. It'll probably be the first title to get patched for it as well.

Either that or we are back to "power of the cloud" for these rumours. Talking of which what happened to crackdown? Was it just some "look at what we can do" bull like hololens and we never get to play it?

Huh? Crackdown has a multiplayer something coming this summer, possibly a available now E3 announcement.

As much as I want SO on PC, if it was coming I'd like to think we would have heard something by now. Insomniac has NO games on PC. Correct me if I'm wrong.

They have 3 in development for the Rift.

Slow Down, Bull is available now.

Song of the Deep is coming out in July.
