What is the most opulent thing you've ever experienced personally?

I'm not even sure what you were trying to argue in the first place. Because you have an ingredient in your freezer, it makes the foie gras from restaurants no big deal? If I had a fillet steak in my freezer, does that mean having Gordon Ramsay's Beef Wellington at Ramsays would be no big deal?

Weird argument. I'll take the course prepared by the chefs personally :) They were very tasty.

EDIT - Not from Ramsays in London but from Ramsays restaurant in Dubai:

What is the bottom left meat?

Were you at the Cheetah? Bathroom attendants are a pretty common thing. You'll find them anywhere from the shittiest strip clubs to the nicest nightclubs. They also come in all shapes, sizes and colors.. All equally worthless and best ignored.
It was some place in Buckhead.
I don't know the name, I probably didn't know it then either. But Cheetah sounds like a strip club name - it wasn't one of those.

I'd be interested to see those receipts.

I believe it's a similar argument to that in defence of bull fighting - it suffers a grizzly end but that the life leading up to that point is both longer and of far better quality. Hard to say which is better when it all ends up with them basically living and dying for our pleasure.

You sweet country bumpkin. Getting your camera out at the restaurant.

My father is a lawyer who defended a lot of crooks in the 1980s. When they went to jail, he would use their cars and stuff until he could sell them off.

One time he had a Rolls Royce for about a month. That would be it.

Haha, I don't think that the Bar of your father's state would be pleased to hear this.

Tabris: you're now officially required, under penalty of permanent ban, to personally donate a minimum of $1000 USD to a vetted non-profit charitable organization aimed at improving quality of life for the less privileged and/or saving lives, e.g. UNICEF, at no discernible direct benefit to yourself (so no planting a tree in some Vancouver fundraiser and getting a plaque somewhere with your name on it and an invite to a black tie event where you try to get laid), and provide accompanying legitimate documentation of doing so to me personally, in explicit conjunction with any brag thread you would like to post on NeoGAF from this point onward and until stated otherwise. Meaning that the donation is made within the same 24 hour period that you would like to post the brag thread to directly offset it, so not documentation referencing an otherwise occurring standard annual contribution.

Should be a non-issue for someone of your staggering opulence, and you can even mention in the OP of the brag threads that you provided clean drinking water for an impoverished community or funded the cost of antiretrovirals for a baby to be born HIV-free or whatever cause you funded that time, making your brag thread that much more brag-worthy.

We take pictures of every course. That's pretty normal thing to do unless you're old?

EDIT - I saw it in every restaurant we were at. People appreciate the chef's art, so definitely taking pictures of each course in a tasting / chefs menu. Maybe not as common in North America as in Asia, but it's getting there.

Like OP it would have to be my trip to UAE. I was sent there for a month by the Air Force. We were in Abu Dhabi though. We stayed in the Armed Forces Officer Club and Hotel. I don't have my pictures available atm, but it was marble and gold everywhere. It also had some of the biggest indoor spaces I have ever seen.

I went to Disney World once.

I just wish it wasn't in December. You'd think Florida wouldn't be too cold even in winter, but you would be wrong.

Other than that, I haven't been able to go on a vacation in 10 years. So yeah, I haven't been very opulent recently.

None. I'm a better person than one who finds enjoyment in opulence.

Also by vacationing in the UAE Tabris has lost any sort of moral superiority he thought he held.

You really are unbearably smug. I guess its great being morally superior, but frankly I'd rather read about Tabris enjoying his money, than you enjoying your own self-satisfaction.

Its weird. It could be 80 degrees or 45-50 in December down there. Whenever we went to Disney, we'd always go a week before christmas. Most of the time its good weather, but there were a few days where it dropped and we had to buy some jackets down there since it got cold at times.

guilty of the food pictures to.

I take snaps because I have a more visual memory. so images help me to remember.

OK, this joke thread just took a sinister turn. Foie gras has no place in a civilised society.

There is also foie gras that is produced WITHOUT force feeding. It is extremely rare by comparison to the force-fed stuff, and more expensive, but it exists and (in my opinion) it's worth it.

When I bought myself my first set of Japanese knives for pursuing my career in pastry.

Those look very very nice. I've noticed lots of expensive knives for sale in my trip to Tokyo but haven't the slightest clue as to what brands and styles are any good. Then again, I never cook anything that requires precise or quick cutting, so I don't know why they interested me so much in the stores.

None. I'm a better person than one who finds enjoyment in opulence.

So true, is it not? I find it abhorrent that some of these filthy plebeians even enjoy material possessions. I've emotionally and mentally ascended from pursuing such revolting mortal lusts myself.

Once took a 60's mustang to an event. Loved the lavish interior and felt it was opulent. You're apparently better than me for this. Lmao. Keep stroking that morality peen you whip out at every opportunity. It's bigger than anyone elses.

Dear Tabris, i know you are trying to portray to others an image of a classy hedonistic individual that enjoys life in the moment spending a lot of money while doing it so i though i would give you some advice on improving that self image you are trying to show to the world.

I am somebody that comes from a 10 figure networth family, and, not me of course, because im not about that life, but if my cousin who is an investment banker and wears this 10 thousand dollar or whatever suit(i dont actually wear suits so i dont really care) saw you taking pictures of the food that you are eating at a restaurant, chances are he would probably laugh out loud at you while pointing his fingers while he slips his hand under the skirt of his multiple model companions for that night and proceed to take a big sip of his 10 thousand dollar bottle of alcohol.

You have absolutely no idea how tacky it looks for someone to take a picture of their food. It looks like hes expecting to never see it again, and thats a sign of being poor.

Now im sure you dont want to be compared to the poor plebians in the suburbs so you should stop doing that and savor the moment without any cameras to try to keep that classy, well dressed american psycho image you trying to go for.

If not, disregard and carry on.

could you buy a pizza?, or iPAD pro. ( i promise not to take any pictures of them) maybe with them. though not sure how many megapixels a pizza can get.

This.

One doesn't got to an art exhibit and take pictures of the art.

They buy the art or visit the exhibition again.

Age has nothing to do with it. More something that pretenders and the nouveau riche participate in doing.

Nah. That's not true.

Don't know when it started but I'm guessing it was young people. Selfies, food selfies, etc.

ETA- Are people pretending only posers take pics of their food? I don't do it, but a ton of people do.

This is literally the last image of food that I took (back in November, edit: oh shit, 2014!) and it was of homemade huevos rancheros to taunt a friend after a long night out.

I don't understand the people that take images of every course. Seems rude to have your phone out during such a nice meal with friends.

That is true for the common man but we are talking in the context of living the high life.

Going to a michellin restaurant is not a treat, its just another meal. Therefore not worth showing.

I dont know of one single member of the elite families in my country (from all age brackets) that take pictures of their food.

I've got nothing...

I can tell you all kinds of things my sisters have done in life, but mine has been pretty poor in comparison. The only cool travel I've done is the bargain trip to Hawaii to see family. It might sound exciting, but without doing beaches and fine dining, it's just sort of like being at home at a different place.

So much salt, I can taste it from here. Stop being jealous of my hero Tabris. I want to grow up to be just like him. You just wish you had his riches and successes. HATER!

oh wait

You should do an AMA on the rich life. I'm kind of fascinated how divorced it is from the other stratums.

Theres nothing particulary complicated about it.

Through life normal people are presented multiple doors for oportunities and experiences. Most of them are closed.

To the ultra rich every single door is open and has a butler holding the door for you.

Personally, i dont like spending money. I could have a lamborghini aventador but i chose to drive an audi a5 coupe. I could pay for a 8k a month apartment but i settle for a 2k a month.

Now my cousins, they are the kinda people you see in rich kids of instagram hence why i used my cousin as an example, as far as im concerned Tabris is free to do whatever he wants just dont be surprised when he gets called out on it by people higher than him in the social hierarchy.
