Polygon: Xbox Scorpio will be a ~6 TFLOP system (v PS4K's 4.14), unveil soon, Fall 17

Wont the crappy CPU (if they are keeping the same netbook era jaguar as rumored) severely bottleneck a 6tflop GPU? You would probably need an i5 2500k at the minimum to not bottleneck a GTX 1070

That was my worry as well, posted previously about it. Based on rumors, we know the PS4 Neo is still using the same Jaguar CPU. And we have seen games already being CPU limited this generation. Boosting it by 500Mhz isn't going to do a whole lot. Because of the CPU, the PS4 Neo may not be able to take full advantage of the GPU upgrade in many games.

This is why I think the Xbox One Scorpio next year may have a better CPU (hopefully using AMD's Zen architecture).

everyone is going to be extremely frustrated when Neo and Scorpio aren't at E3

After Phil's comments on twitter I think it's gonna be at E3. Why else would he tweet out "Can't wait to tell everyone our story at E3" after the Scorpio rumours? I just really don't understand why they're announcing it 1.5 years before, that's gonna kill sales this year which can't be good for Gears.

So in a way I kind of believe it's out this year, purely because of the timing of the announcement, but I also don't know how they're gonna get this machine out and still be at the $399 maximum price point.

I remember the Elop rumours, but there were rumours of Satya too. Which to me, fits given Phil invited him to E3 last year in a bid to show him why Xbox should stay and be properly supported.

That isn't how keeping the Xbox division would work. A CEO won't change his mind on an E3 crowd reaction happens. It would need to fit into his overall plan of Windows and Xbox fits into that plan. Any rumors that Satya selling them off was riding off the old rumors of Elop doing it or an investor trying to start rumblings.

What are the chanches that this will have original xbox BC?

It would be awesome to have it, along with 360 and ONE BC, it will make xbox scorpio the ultimate xbox experience!

My thoughts exactly. It is all well and good having 6TF of GPU power, but if it is paired with a Jaguar CPU a lot of the theoretical power will go unused as the CPU will not be able to feed the necessary data to the GPU.

I think Phils referring to the Xbox + Win10 UWP thing. they're going to go in on that hard at E3 but no Scorpio

Xbox is still here because they're trying their hardest to fit it within the wider Windows ecosystem. Anything else wouldn't make sense for Microsoft anymore.

I have a overwhelming suspicion iterative consoles are going to backfire hard. I've been through one console crash already and I'd hate to see another one.

It better have a better CPU. Jaguar is the meh now

This is all pure speculation/guesswork of course. But why else would Phil have invited Satya. Just fits in my opinion.
Because Nutella is more hands-on and wants to be involved in all the juicy deets I am guessing. He wants to personally see how each team does their job, and E3 is a huge event in a massive industry.

To add to that, Balmer seemed more like that guy that "send me the head of each division" and had them tell him how things were going and stuff they were working on.

And that's pretty significant no? bigger than the PS4> XB1 gap?

It's YUUUUUUUUUUUGE.

2TF that's like almost 2 Xbox Ones duct taped together.

Microsoft has a war chest for these kinds of situations.

I'd wager that some people here actually believe this. That Microsoft is going to deliver a crazy powerhouse of a system for 399$, taking a huge bath on every unit sold after having fumbled away most of their marketshare over the last few years.

I would pay money to see Phil pitch that one to stockholders.

Considering how quick and dirty the 360 release was to beat the ps3 to market I wouldn't be surprised if this was half baked and changes completely by launch or something goes terribly wrong

"Think of all the MAU's we'll get, an increase of over 9000%!"

I agree though, they're gonna take a loss but not $200 and $300 losses. That's suicide financially, especially if consoles really do become iterative then they're unlikely to make that money back from most people.

Wait, unveil soon, releasing fall 17? Why so long? It feels they just decided on it now, specially if we take into account what Phil Spencer was saying not long ago.

Microsoft has a war chest for these kinds of situations.

Is it still the same war chest they had when they launched the XOne?

How many Gamecubes though???

Agreed, I really dont think we will see them...Scorpio nor Neo...maybe they will give hints at the model they are moving towards. Maybe there might be mentions? I doubt it. I think MS will save Scropio for next year and Sony (if late 2016 launch rumors are true) we will see at some other event this year...maybe PSX or TGS.

iterative consoles is such a huge change in the console space that I could see Sony or Microsoft doing their own events to unveil them ala Apple or like the initial PS4 unveil.

I really doubt they'll be at E3

$600 isn't at cost. Bulk buying will make it a lot cheaper than a boxed card.
So that changes the question to how they'll put a $400 GPU into a $400 system.

Still haven't seen a convincing answer aside from "bu-but the warchest" which is totally why the XB1 was released at $500 and they got all the exclusives this gen.

For the most part, many will find it to be boring as hell. GAF, for the most part, usually comes out of E3 with "it was ok".

Theres no way Xbox can come away from E3 and say it was boring. They cant have another year like this . Either they drop a bomb with new hardware this year or theyre fucked , they will go all in at E3 or it its fuck it.

Man, this thread started really good, but now we're getting into 14-year-old-fanboy-wet-dream territory. Why did MS and Sony sell you underpowered consoles 2,5 years ago in the first place when top of the line PC tech is so easy/cheap to get?

Of course, I'd assume some Spring titles will start to show some differences, and maybe by Summer things will start to ramp up, but then in Summer the Scorpio will have been announced by then so people can start making informed decisions, whether to buy PS4K or wait for Scorpio. A lot will wait for Black Friday deals regardless I assume.

If this is a new architecture, Vega/HBM2 then I would assume they are getting ready to send devkits out. If there's a Spring 2017 reveal then I would think they'd start sending Scorpio devkits as soon as this E3, or Summer for sure.

Depends as I said above how long developers have had the devkits for. If they receive them this Summer then I assume Fall 2017 games will be ready to show the differences, at launch of Scorpio.

Yeah that sounds likely and hopefully from there games will be made on the new hardware and ported to Xbox One. I see no reason why they wouldn't.

It's possible that we'll see the PS4 Neo occupy the middle ground while the PS4/Xbox Slim occupy the low end, and the Xbox Scorpio occupies the high end (higher end hardware, higher price).

There's no rule that these consoles have to be the same price and similar hardware profiles.

I bet Microsoft is scratching themselves behind the ears now because whatever it is they will be dropping next year, it isn't going to live up to the expectations in this thread where people expect a powerhouse for cheap.

It will be a fun ride though.
