Trump v. Bernie Debate

This is politics. It is good to see a bit of dialectics.

It is good to see dialectics, but this is not the time for it. The polls show a rift in the Democratic Party which is allowing Trump, to tie Hillary in the polls. The debate will either weaken the party or continue the conflict between Hillary and Bernie supporters when the party desperately needs unity.

I will bring my pom poms for Bernie that night, but this will not help the Democrats defeat Trump.

Clinton has participated in 9 debates with Sanders.

Tonight on Kimmel, Trump was asked if he would debate Bernie since Hillary backed out.

This is what I was replying to. I want to see someone debate Trump, I think it would be good to get the democrat's ideas on a huge national stage and contrast them against Trump's sooner rather than later

And, just speaking for myself, I'd love to see Bernie debate Trump. Since he won't win the nomination we'll never get another shot at something like this. The man is like 76

But... he can do this right now? Without doing a debate?

Yes, and I am sure he will do that once he loses the nomination.
I don't think he can campaign for Hillary, but he sure as hell campaign against Trump.

Do I support this debate? meh
Is it guaranteed to be bad for Hilllary? No. and meh at this point too.

That was before she won. She's won and there is no need. If Bernie were in his position he would do the same. Any other politician that won would not debate against a corpse.

I do think another Dem debate is unnecessary but she hasn't won yet. She is effectively guaranteed to win, but not there yet.

You'll get the bolded in a few months with Hillary.

Man, I hope this happens. I'm just gonna lurk that thread. Popcorn and a big, big grin.

But in 2008, She'd debate any time anywhere!

"Hey, Bush did it who cares if our candidate follows in his footsteps?" Who honestly thinks that way? It wasn't right then, and it isn't right now, they aren't exactly equivalent if you read into it.

Furthermore, as the Head Diplomat looking to further her career and run the country as President, that State Department should have been ran in an above ground manner and if the policies needed fixing Hillary should have done it as the Head of that department. None of this lack of leadership and perpetuating errors of prior leaders. You can't honestly look the American public in the eye and say, "Well, Powell did it and the Department I ran was a piece of shit, I didn't fix it, so elect me..."

If people want accountability and transparency in government, it starts with the smallest errors up to the biggest ones. If they can play by their own rules and get away with it then what's the point anyways?

It's an issue of leadership, accountability, transparency, national security, and just being honest all rolled into one big nothing burger.

But I guess it's just emails?

Well, by 'just as bad' you mean several times worse, to the point of millions of emails and billions of dollars poofed away. Not to mention the body counts and such.

Want better data security? Ok! lets do that. Want to use this as a reason to sink Clinton when the alternatives are far, far worse on every imaginable level? That's just asinine.

Start with the small stuff, sure, but don't walk in the bad stuff on a red carpet just to spite someone.

Want to roll all that up? Then you better have a damn good reason to punish for this, and not for all the other bad things the rival party does, and got away with. Strange how there wasn't any congressional hearings or mass investigations about this, am I right?

Which is more important in the end? A minor data security issue, or potentially getting thousands more killed, and god know how much economic and environmental damage?

You'll get the bolded in a few months with Hillary.

And hopefully I can get it in a few days with Bernie, who will be many times more effective against Trump

Sanders can talk about the ideas and challenge Trump in a way that seems authentic. Hillary almost certainly can't. I have nothing against her and I'll vote for her in November, but she won't be particularly good in a debate against Trump

That would be best served by having Clinton debate Trump as the actual nominee of the party. Which she surely will, so I'm not sure why you think she won't.

And I can understand having affection for Sanders, but he's already been given far more slack than most losing primary candidates in recent memory.

Have you seen him debate before? He's horrid. It's just his stump speech!

If this Trump v Bernie Debate actually happens... it could be really good for the democrats.

Bernie just has to draw a sharp contrast between democrats and Trump and focus on those issues. The more Trump is exposed the better.

You have more faith in Bernie then I do at this point boiled.

Have you seen him debate before? He's horrid. It's just his stump speech!

But at least his message has been consistent. Of all the things to pick on him, you pick THAT? LOL

Hilary, on the other hand... Inconsistent as fuck. Dont make me post that 13 minute video again that I'm sure will be called "out of context" and "Not a good source".

i wanna see the receipts

I don't know what's more depressing... that Trump floated the debate as a joke, and Bernie thought he was being serious and fell for it.

Or that this might actually, in the end, benefit Trump more than Bernie. This is that futile trip to the Vatican before the NY primary, all over again, except this time, with much more dangerous consequences.

Yeah, I guess security of our nation isn't paramount. Let's just let it slide.

I'm not going to bat for any of these candidates. If it's found that you've broken the law in your official government dealings, then they should be held accountable just like any other peasant. If that costs you the nomination, then that's your own problem and I won't wash it away for you. I also won't be held hostage either by the idea that, "I'm a piece of shit, but look at that guy he's an even bigger piece of shit".

That applies to Hillary, The Donald, Bernie, etc.

Yep. Fuck commitment and all that. Bernie is still in this race. Like it or not.
Yea he is seeing his loss all the way through, gotta give him props for taking that L and running with it. Can't wait for him to be roasted and Cali and finally have no other choice than to get behind Hillary and/or go away for a while.

Feels like Bernie embracing the very sideshow he and his agenda are supposed to be above. Whatever though, as long as this shifts his supporters' focus off Hillary and on to Trump in a way that sticks it will have at least served a purpose.

It's the very nature of the campaign. Being an inconvenience for the establishment.

Kicking and screaming if necessary.

If you are trying to force that piece into place then sure.

Hmm.. Promises one thing. Does another thing.

I mean...

He is still in this race in the same way Biden is going to be president before January.

Well, I guess the DNC dropping a Biden care package on the convention isn't a totally bad thing.

The Sanders camp actually apparently asked the Kimmel Crew to ask the question.

So it seems it was Sanders' idea. Which is worse

Bernie and Trump agreeing and double teaming Hillary on the corrupting influence on Money in politics would certainly be bad... I don't think that would happenn.... but if I can see the worries some Hillary fans have. That has always been her achilles heel against Trump...

It's a pointless debate. No one cares except people that can't accept reality I guess.

Yes let's silence the candidates so people will fall in line.

What if Bernie loses?

He has already lost.

Bernie is terrible in debates. Trump would shake him.

The idea that seeking a debate with ideological opponents is a bad thing sort of epitomizes the bullshit, smug attitudes of Democrats. Fucking weak sauce. So weak.

Is this a new thing you are supporting?
People in active primaries will debate people in other active primaries?

acting like bernie did not have an agenda in asking for a debate against trump is pretty weak too man

Sure... Why the hell not?

acting like bernie did not have an agenda in asking for a debate against trump is pretty weak too man

Yes, his "agenda" is surely to get Trump elected. That's been his plan all along, obviously.

Who cares if Bernie debates Trump?

If Bernie is a weak old man, and Trump is a piece of shit then wouldn't this expose them?

Wouldn't Hillary laying back in the cut and letting these two go at each other benefit her? Why is there such a cause for concern from all the Hillary supporters? What are you scared of?

It's a hail mary to try to save the candidacy which will not work. He's just signal boosting Trump.

Sure... Why the hell not?

Well, at least your opinion is coming from a valid reading of the situation.
Just keep in mind it's not typical decorum, in fact i'm not even sure it's been done before.

I think there's a .000000001% (approximately... That's not exact) chance that he'll win the nomination and I'd be ecstatic to see this happen. It's not about winning for me, it's about getting his message out to as many people as possible.

Signal boosting Trump? Lol. Trump is Verizon with the signal. Dude has had 4 bars since he announced he was running. Do you own a television?

Well, at least your opinion is coming from a valid reading of the situation.

Yeah, that's fine and all. I'm not really at all concerned with decorum. What's the harm in seeing how our primary candidates fare face-to-face with the actual opposition before we choose one? Are we afraid the Republicans will make us look bad? Then we've lost already, as far as I'm concerned. That's the weakness I'm alluding to.
