Maybe not so obvious but teased, the plan ahead. Basically to cast some doubt into people thinking about going PlayStation or upgrading to Neo. All they can do really. Don't think we'll see a box or anything. Their big push is Windows 10 and a very cheap Xbox One slim and maybe that streaming stick thing. They focus on two different customers so Scorpio shouldn't really scupper Xbox One just like Neo won't scupper the PS4. $200 vs $400.
I previously thought they would talk scorpion at e3, to steal the neo announce thunder. Changed my mind now - they just need to announce Scorpion before neo ships. Let Sony undermine ps4 sales with an announce of a console months away ( if indeed it is) then go balls-out later this year on Scorpion, in depth (naturally hurting xb1 sales, but hopefully stopping xb1 users jumping to neo and also spoiling the neo launch a bit)

Possibly but greater risk of confusing customers around the time they buy most consoles even if it isn't aimed at price conscious prospective Xbox One owners. Getting it out now is a shock but enough time for this to calm down. I guess that's why Sony will announce Neo sooner rather than later. Lay the cards out early so no knee jerk reactions happen.

Neo won't be revealed at E3, and I hardly see how Microsoft can prevent their users from going to the other side, as this is already happening since the beginning of this generation. They'll launch a slim model,ok, but that seems redundant with the upcoming Scorpio sku.

Someone talks like Microsoft is leading 2:1.

I don't see how having a high end option as well as a budget conscious option is redundant. This way you can play games without spending much, or you can play them in higher fidelity with and have VR capability. Assuming this is all true, of course.

Does anyone think the new xbox will be even mentioned at e3?

There is no way. That is too much of a power increase...and way to far out. It will hurt xbox sales big time.

I see just a price drop and xbox slim

Xbox one.five deserves a dedicated show just to show its capabilities.

They can still announce it at E3 along with a trade-in/upgrade program. Say something like 30%-50% off. People can feel compelled to get a Slim now, build a decent library of games, then upgrade fully knowing that their library would carry over to the Scorpio.

I wonder if they'll pull any Minecraft 2 cards if things get shaky regarding this whole Scorpio 6-12 months after Neo release.

That would be great if they did that, give a huge incentive to upgrade as well as possibly create a lot of buzz and good-will to fans (though I'm sure the announcement of any new system will create buzz on it's own).

Sorry I didn't want to devalue the possible "core - premium model" scenario, but announcing 2 new sku in few months seems way too risky and a bit confusing to me (while Sony has just 1 upcoming sku).

There are people that expect that?
Subsidized phones and trade in deals are a huge part of why the iterative phone system works. If these rumors prove true, and MS or Sony can figure out a way to do one of those things it would certainly help adoption of the newest consoles.

For sure I would expect some kind of effort to that effect if they try to push VR adoption specifically. Shit's gonna be expensive!

How is it confusing. The new one is just a Xbox One slim which comes out in 2016. The other 20117.

When Apple comes out with two new phones are you confused?

Odd statement...

Regardless - my point was about retaining the users you have... if XB users who are already wobbly about PS4 having more power, see the NEO launching that takes it further ahead... and MS have no answer... then intuitively they're more likely to jump ship.

apple's been doing it for almost 10 years. this is all new for consoles. consumers won't immediately just say "we smart phones now" and roll with it. some people will be confused

Dude, are you telling me you are going to be confused by a Xbox One slim and a higher end Xbox? The phone is just an example.

This is what I don't get. There's a cheap box that plays all the games, and a more expensive box that plays them better. Either way, you can still play all games.

Well, a Slim early-adopter could possibly become upset when they'll annonunce the premium model just after few months from the slim launch. Sony clearly has an advantage here, cause their OG sku is de facto a slim model.

What if they're announced simultaneously? The slim model may very well just be the basic box that's intended for budget conscious consumers.

If you are holding out for the higher end console you will hold out and buy that. If you don't care about high end games or vr you will buy the slim model.

It tickles me that MS fucked up by focusing on Kinect this gen so Sony is preparing to squander their advantage by focusing on PSVR. It's like they take turns being dipshits. Luckily from what we're hearing MS gaming division is pulling their head out of their ass now and creating a GAMING machine again with Scorpio. Looking forward to it.

anyone expecting a 50% trade in deal on any of these new consoles is delusional

For real. I know this a thread and speculation is a fun part of it. But I question whether some of the posters here are fans with blinders on. Have any of you worked with logistics or supply chain before? There is so much conjecture.

Trade In's, incentives, buy backs....

Are we talking about car dealarships or consoles?

this is assuming they know a higher end console is on the way. they might not, they just walked into a store and bought an xbox

Microsoft will just announce / show all the cool games yet to come on XB1, and it's new slim form and attractive price. Then tease the Scorpio, stating that all your games come with you and there's no better time to buy into the Xbox ecosystem. Blah blah blah.

Problem solved.

Seems like a pretty big increase to not have exclusive content made for it.

If they did do this at E3, they need to be Crystal Clear about that messaging that all software someone buys today will work on the newer system. It will not be enough for Phil to stand there and say it, it needs to have a Power Point on the big screen behind him re-enforcing what he is saying. If they can guarantee and not only verbally but have a screen with the text saying it, I think that will be compelling and relieve concerns people have.
