Polygon: Xbox Scorpio will be a ~6 TFLOP system (v PS4K's 4.14), unveil soon, Fall 17

I hope he comes out at the end of their presentation in a t-shirt with the Simpsons character on it and just drops bombs. Spec announcement, release date, and price.

But emphasize how the slim is still a good option, of course.

No man, shirts wont cut it anymore, I want full immersion

Question, did MS say anywhere explicitly they were bringing all 1st party xbox games to W10?

In addition to Horizon 3 I've seen MCC talked about and i'm wondering where that's coming from.

How will MS make games compatible with XB1 without ED RAM?

First off, there is no ed ram in Xbox. /trollface

On a serious note...

Esram on 28nm in the Xb1 took around 80-90mm2.
Esram in 14nm will be a very simple shrink, prolly down to 20-30mm2.

That'll be less than 10% of the die size of the Scorpio SOC.

They can enable CPU access to esram in the Scorpio more massive CPU perf increase if that's feasible engineering wise.

They can increase GPU clock by 5% to offset the loss of the CUs.

It's not really a big deal to keep 32mb of esram around for future iterations. The die space for 32mb will keep getting smaller and smaller due to fab shrinks, and the esram will be useful for a long time.

Guys, creative is a word to instill doubt not confirm it??

Now if you told me that Obama was a buttmongling reptilian and i went "thats uh...creative" thats me thinking you're very wrong but i'm not going to intervene

But at the same time, yeah the fact he's acknowledging this could be confirmation, hell I dont know

You lost me at "buttmongling reptilian".

So...are you expecting Scorpio to have a dedicated cache of ESRAM as well?

Would it be possible for Microsoft to create a system that has just one pool of memory, yet is compatible with all previous Xbox One titles?

If Esram is impossible to emulate by HBM2, I would think they'll just slap the 32mb of ESRAM on there, and take the hit in some reduced CU account.

If the SOC can be engineered in a way that allows the cpu to also access the Esram, then they'll probably add it regardless of the BC situation. That'll be too big of a perf win to not to.

does the shirt confirm scorpio or just the slim rumors at e3 ? i mean for all we know he will just talk about slim and the other small consoles

The more I think about this the more I believe its Microsofts best and only move at this point. Its a great way to infuse some excitement in the future MS is building towards while moving away from the bad stigma attached to the X1. They just need some solid new IP's but I would imagine Phil already knows that and has something up his sleeve.

If Microsoft unveils their NuBox at E3, there's no way Sony won't do the same with theirs, right.

Well they are definitely showing games that are supposed to be the showcase IPs for Neo so I would imagine it was going to be there already.

Yeah, from both Phil and the CEO, Satya Nadella. However, Phil has commented it applies to future games and he doesn't want to look back.

Stinkles recently commented that Halo Wars 2 was the start of what to expect in terms of Halo on PC and Xbox. When asked about Halo 5 he said it wasn't developed with the PC in mind and it would be a hit to their current production plans to do it.

Turn10 explicitly said all future Forza games will be PC and Xbox. They also said they will reveal a new Forza at E3.

If I were you I'd forget about MCC on Win 10 anytime soon. Maybe get a cheap X1 to play it if you've got an itch? I just saw one in the B/S/T thread for like $180 shipped lol

EDIT: Consider that out of all their 2016+ games they're publishing (see below), only Gears 4, Crackdown 3, and Scalebound are Xbox One only. They haven't ruled out bringing Gears 4 to Windows 10.

Gears of War 4 (Xbox One) – Multiplayer Beta in Spring 2016/Launch in Fall 2016
Quantum Break (Xbox One & Windows 10) – April 5, 2016
Halo Wars 2 (Xbox One & Windows 10) – Fall 2016
Crackdown 3 (Xbox One) – Multiplayer in Summer 2016
ReCore (Xbox One & Windows 10) – 2016
Sea of Thieves (Xbox One & Windows 10) – 2016
Gigantic (Xbox One & Windows 10) – 2016
Killer Instinct: Season 3 (Xbox One & Windows 10) – March 2016
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition (Windows 10) – Spring 2016
Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition (Xbox One & Windows 10) – Spring 2016
Cobalt (Xbox One, Xbox 360 & Steam) – Feb. 2, 2016
Scalebound (Xbox One) - 2017

When was the last time a new console, that wasn't a slim/modified version of an existing console, announced at E3? Ever?

14/16nm is only about twice as dense as 28nm. It refers to the size of the smallest element of the transistor, not the actual size of the transistor itself.

So you'd be looking at something like 40-45mm2 for the ESRAM.

What the hell does this wardrobe mean?

will scorpio play cassette tapes jeff_rigby?

Ooooh, the shade! RIP 360 coffins. They won't make that mistake again, especially under Panos.

Thousand times better if Panos presents it, he commands awe

EDIT: I actually massively respect jeff_rigby's dedication to detail and dont understand why it gets mocked

"At Microsoft we don't comment on rumours or speculation. Hey Nancy, print me up a creative chatter shirt! Nothing in the handbook that I can't do that!"

They all seem so happy. So different than the shitstorm at XBOX One reveal.

We back? Gaming #1 priority again?

Agree, something isn't adding up here. Does seem like a controlled leak, either way Phil sounds confident as hell.

Were finally going to get to see Phils next xbox. No more excuses from that point on.

Yep, this box is the culmination of Nadella and Spencer and Panos and whoever the hell else is involved. It's so fucking crucial they get this right, I can just about forgive the dark age of Kinect, but this has to be superb because many others still havent.

you'll get more eye candy at 30fps and like it.

:( Please sir just 1 more fps?

If they have no ESRAM emulation, I wonder would devs port Neo builds to Scorpio rather than starting with the Xbone version that still needs to use ESRAM?

Who's Panos?

Panos Panay was the lead on Surface. He got promoted last summer to VP of Devices, now in charge of all Microsoft Hardware. Xbox hardware was moved into his team last summer.

I'd include Terry Myerson, EVP of Windows, as well since both Panay and Spencer report to him.

Oh crap yeah I forgot about Myerson, I think he's more focused on things like apps and ecosystems and software though, but he is responsible for alot of the greenlighting

Man the Xbox nation is going crazy over this. Nothing is more entertaining than a fanbase that has been getting hated on for the past 2 years have a glimmer of hope.

A lot of posts in this thread reads like fan fiction and best case scenarios for MS. The reality will most likely be different.

For one, the majority are not leaving steam and it's ecosystem for the win 10 store, so no playing on PC does not gain MS anything, as most will just use steam, not many are going to go to the Win 10 store for 1-2 xbox games a year that are not big on PC to begin with.

Launching a year later and more expensive the neo is not going to end well for MS, power or not, in europe and elsewhere especially. Even in the US it won't be easy, playstaion is a strong global brand, people seem to always underestimate that.

Good post. I agree with everything you said. PlayStation has always been the bigger brand in gaming. It's going to be difficult task to for Microsoft to change that. I don't see them doing with these moves.

Their best bet is gaining back some sales in the US and UK. Power is just one of the problems with the Xbox One.

Lots of exciting news, curious to see how this all pans...out, but as I always do...keeping my expectations in check that way I can be more surprised if something really happens.

Thank you for the clarification. I have really enjoyed xbox on W10, so expanding the offerings is really great.

I think i'll hold off on getting an xbox one until we find out what the Scorpio turns out being. It would be interesting if it was a 6TF machine meant to work as a both a W10 game machine with VR and an xbox one. That's just me thinking out loud.

Like the PS3 years? Is that were the chalkboard originated?

I don't think anything will ever top the FFXIII betrayalthon for me. Nothing has even come close.
