Because the franchise had more than enough titles. There wasn't a loose end or anything else like with Shenmue for example. It even had a spinoff to a damn cart game. I rather have the devs being creative and come up with something new and original like Pupeteer than seeing those resources used for yet another Crash. The original devs and their vision moved on, so should some players.

I don't think you understood what I said. I said why do we have be so hostile towards another? Cant we just all respectfully wish a new installment on franchises that we cherish?
I've seen this kind of crap happen on other threads with different fans of different franchises.

Shenmue fans wanted another game because of a cliffhanger ending. Crash fans just want at least ONE proper game that carries the soul of the original and done in a way that will standards of today in gaming. Because man oh man, Radical really fucked him up.

Crash or no crash, I just want to see a renaissance of well made 3D platformers whether it's an old or new IP. And I'm sure most Crash fans can vouch for me here.

I kind of want Shawn Layden teasing something through a piece of clothing (Vib-Ribbon pin, Crash shirt) to become a tradition. Please walk out in a MediEvil shirt, Shawn!

I want a PS4 Wipeout, maybe with PSVR support.

But is anyone without unnanounced project thay may have been working on something like that? Firesprite? Playrise? XDev? SCE London maybe?

As someone who isn't concerned with Crash, what are people wanting exactly?

Do people want the linear PS1 game design but with better graphics?

Do people want a complete reboot so it's more like a Banjo/Mario platformer?

Completely missed this post but I'll try my best to answer.

If anything, I think people just want to see ther series go back to its traditional routes. It worked well for Donkey Kong Country Returns and Tropical Freeze. They can play it safe but can experiment too.

But I'd like to see something in vein of the PS4 Ratchet game. A full blown retooling but close to the source material. Crash has been out of the picture long enough for a full-blown reboot to not be shocking to anyone. It's not like the story was ever integral to the experience. I would go with a reboot if only because the continuity has become screwed up. As long as the characters we love are there, that's all that really matters.

Gameplay-wise, it should follow Crash 2. Keep the same basic concept, but don't necessarily make it a direct copy of the old formula. Let the new team put their own spin on it. Levels should still be about linear point A to point B platforming, but that doesn't mean they have to be cramped corridors like the originals. I wouldn't mind if there was a huge hubworld with levels spread out like the Spyro games. Hell, I wouldn't mind an open-world game like Jak and Daxter. I expect something inbetween though, like Twinsanity.

Oh, one thing the game NEEDS is the crates. The puzzles should center around how to break all the boxes without getting your shit fucked up. Floating crate bounces, TNT+Nitro, Crates immune to certain moves, the whole shlock.

If they go into a more open-ended platformer like Jak 1 or Mario, then I'd still have 100% need all boxes in the game broken. This is making me realize that as long as the CORE gameplay is the same mechanics, I will love it either way (open or corridor).

Leading on from the level select hub area in previous Crash games, wouldn't the next evolution be a large open world hub area (like a lush tropical island) with tons of its own secrets and mini-challenges and such, and then have random portals open up gradually around the hub as you progress, leading to the proper Crash levels (linear, 2D, racing, minigame, boss etc)? It's a style plenty of other platformers have successfully employed. This way you get the best of all worlds, with both a big, open Crash and the classic linear style.

This is what I want from Crash:

  • Linear levels like in the original trilogy. It helps keep the pacing and feels more focused than the semi open/open world of Twinsanity and Tag Team Racing.
  • Reduce the number of vehicle levels, or if vehicle levels are present make sure they control well.
  • Warprooms I can take or leave. I liked them in the classic series, but as long as the levels themselves are linear I don't really care how they structure the overworld.
  • Use the gem system from CSB/Warped/WoC. Don't go back to the system from the original, and definitely don't use the one present in Twinsanity.
  • Make relics bonus challenges that aren't necessary for the true ending.
  • Give us a "PS1 filter" so we can make the game look like one of the original titles
  • Keep the gameplay systems from the original series. By which I mean don't make it so nitro crates kill you no matter what even if you have an Aku Aku mask yes I'm looking at you Twinsanity
  • Don't focus too much on story.
  • Bring back N. Brio because N. Brio is underutilized.

Desperately hoping for this too, though I'm not getting my hopes up. My secret dreams of Evolution taking on the series in SL's absence shattered a few months ago :(

I only saw this Keighley tweet now, and it shows Detroit on the sizzle reel a couple of time. I really didnt expect to be there since they have games that are supposed to come out this year that need to be shown, and Detroit is likely to be a 2017 game or eve later

But the man knows stuff lol, Im in doubt now

So who are these creators they show in this trailer? I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to YouTube personalities but I'm willing to see what they've got.

The PS1 shader/filter is actually a damn good idea. Wish I thought of that.

Basically Jak and Daxter, they have portal in each of the sages house that let you go back to previous area, than within one area there are multiple path that lead to smaller contained level, sometimes it's linear, sometimes it's bigger exploration level etc. found the general map online.

I hope SuckerPunch's new game is a linear game with wide open levels or something. I love Infamous 1 and 2 (especially 1) but the thing you can see with each of their open world games is how they don't quite reach the potential that is there. Their world's always seem a little lifeless and the missions are repetitive. I don't think it's because of talent, I think it's because they are too small. Aren't they like a team of 80 with the number bumped to 120 in full production? That's just too small to create a living breathing meaningful open world with fun, varied missions in 3 years. You really need that 200+ number for AAA-open world games that don't take 5 years to develope.

Infamous: Second Son still looks good visually so I'd like to see what they can do with a more linear game. I think it would be easier for a team their size to make a really good linear-ish game than an open world one. Hell, I'd even take Infamous game that was structured like TLoU and depicted as a trip across America and seeing all kinds of locations and meeting all kinds of conduits.

I had honestly just thought of it while I was writing out the list. Would love if it could happen.

Yeah, reminds me of the the extras for UC4 and the N64 shader they're doing for Yooka-Laylee.

I wouldn't mind a cel-shading filter though. Something like Sly Cooper or even Wind Waker.

Yeah when I saw that trailer when it came out on YouTube a few days ago I noticed Detroit appears a lot but decided not to bring it up... I think it will be at E3. Geoff knows a lot of what is gonna be at E3 very far in advance (just through his contacts/visiting studios like he mentioned that he saw the UC4 E3 demo a while before E3 last year) and they would have had their entire interview schedule for the E3 show booked for a while so they would be in the position to tease it. There's also the fact that every other game in that trailer will be at E3 (even Fallout with DLC). And even though it's definitely a 2017 game, I think it will still be shown.

Detroit will totally open the press conference just like Beyond: Two Souls did a few years back! You gotta believe!

maybe a new trailer and full-presentation at GC oder PGW
I thought exactly the same. If they are bringing it to E3, must be gameplay of some sort. Only another CG trailer would be a waste of everyone's time tbh
Mhm, that makes sense. A gameplay trailer at E3 and more focus at PGW. I can see that.

Detroit is about the only ps exclusive thats out of my radar
That would be Dreams and GT Sport for me. I hope they turn out great for those interested though.

As for Crash, clearly something is happening. At minimum, I could see this just being a licensing agreement with Activision. I've said this before, but remember that early last year, Eurogamer reported on PS1/PS2 emulation on PS4 with enhanced graphical features and trophies. Then BAM! The PS2 portion of that patent quietly appeared along side the Star Wars: Battlefront PS4 bundle (with Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, and Star Wars: Racer Revenge). Then, weeks later PS2 emulation was officially announced. If that was real, surely the PS1 aspect is as well. So, like I was saying, at minimum, I could see all this Crash teasing to be part of a licensing agreement with Activision, which would allow Sony to have Crash games be the flagship PS1 titles for PS4 (and maybe Vita). Yes, I know this type of thing would not (or should not) warrant the amount of teasing, but I think it would be better than nothing. If Sony did acquire Crash, I think all of the above would still happen.

For me, it's GT Sport, the inevitable God of War 4 and Horizon if it keeps revolving around open-world fields. This gen has given me the epihany that I hate open-world fields. Most boring environmental design ever.

I'd be a lot more hyped for Detroit if Beyond: Two Souls never happened. As it stands, I'm interested but wary.

Edit - Oh yeah, I don't care about The Tomorrow Children or Hot Shots Golf either.

I think I asked you before but what would make open worlds more enjoyable for you? Maybe you would prefer linear-open areas?

not really interested in:-
GTsport
the tomorrow children
Dreams
TLG
NMS
Hotshots
Detroit

For me it's all about:-
Horizon
Neir A
Nioh
GR2
GOW
Whatever Sucker punch is working on.
Possibly Sony bends project.

That's the strength of PlayStation. There is so much diversity in its catalog that you can write bunch of games off and still have plenty of exclusives to look forward to.

So does anyone think that they unveil the PS4K at the beginning so that they can show their new games running on them or do you think they will unveil it at the end or not at all?

Can't believe they used creepy CG zombie Gears kid!

I've had a similar epiphany. I don't 'hate' open world fiels but I've become significantly more tired of them. When I try to think about the best games I've ever played, none of them are open world games except Dark Souls but that's more like 3D metroidvania. The thing that's keeping me interested so much in Horizon is the super fresh art direction but I do fear that it's gonna fall victim to the tired old open world collectathon design.

I just have open-world fatigue in general, and since that kind of design largely concerns itself with big environments to roam about in, I don't think there's a whole lot that can be done about it. I'm more about the details, always have been. Linear, high-fidelity locations, like what are featured in Silent Hill 2 or Heavy Rain as two random examples, are what I find far more enticing.

I'll make an exception for something like Gravity Rush 2 though, because with that game's traversal system, it would be nigh-on impossible for the game to work without it being open-world.

Yeah exactly. I like the lead character's design, even if she does look like Andrew Garfield in cornrows, and the robot-dinosaur enemies make it stand out, but otherwise the game just looks like it's checking all those open-world boxes that are all the rage in AAA game development right now. Mind you, we've still seen very little of it, so I'm keeping an open mind.

Games like Metro:2033 and Last Light are also my jam because they're heavily linear with killer atmospheres. Good linear design just makes it much harder for me to lose interest midway through.

Speaking of which, do we think that 4A Games are gonna show their new game at E3?

Diversity is the number one reason I'm a fan of PlayStation. Probably half of what Sony publishes doesn't interest me at all (Gran Turismo, Detroit, Tomorrow Children, etc.) yet they still have so much that's on my radar.

the good thing is, sony has so many potential titles to show at E3 or the following events this year. I mean the list goes endless

Very true. The fact that they don't adhere to a certain brand and demographic across all their output works much to their advantage.

Personally i'm not intrested just in racing and sports game, so games like gt sports and mlb are really not for me. If Detroits turns out good i may give it a chance even if it's not really my favourite genre.

The games i'm more intrested in are:

-Tlg
-Horizon
-God of War
-Nier

And of course
-Crash

I'm also really curious to see SP and Benad new games.

I mean it's definitely a double edged sword when they start investing overly in VR game production. But I guess you're right.

Since we are talking games we are interested in here mine(officially announced or leaked):

Horizon Zero Dawn
Nier Automata
Gravity Rush 2
The Last Guardian
Persona 5
God Of War IV
Detroit Become Human
What Remains of Edith Finch
Wild

Dead Don't Ride is kinda there too, but hard to say I'm really interested in a game with basically no info.

Playing Crash 2 right now and it blows my mind someone thinking it doesn't hold up or even worse, that it was never good.

I mean opinions and all but damn, this is easily top tier when it comes to platformers. Simple fun. I can't imagine anyone having convincing arguments that it's garbage even if they don't personally like it.
