Can someone give me a run down if all the rumors? Usually there's rumors up the ass this close to E3

Super solid rumors:

-Neo (might not show at E3 tho) and if it does Deep Down resurrection along with it.
-Dead Don't Ride
-Norse God of War
-Resident Evil 7 (might be at Microsoft)
-From Software working on PSVR compatible multiplatform title. Might not show at the event.

Solid rumors:

-Crash

Not so solid rumours:

-Spider-Man by Sucker Punch

edit: and can't forget about Knack 2!

Am I the only one that thinks PS4Neo won't happen? (maybe I'm still living in denial)
Everyone in this thread are kinda sure from what I can see.

If you mean at all versus not being at E3 then yes. Unless you think Kotaku/Eurogamer/Giant Bomb have all been fooled with the leaked docs.

If Santa Monica won't show anything I will declare them in a new development hell...

Their cancelled game fucked everything up. It would have been out by now if things had gone according to plan, and we would be getting a God of War game by Cory's team down the line. Really hoping they show it this E3.

Sony’s Santa Monica Studio is hiring in a major way.

Sony’s Santa Monica Studio is hiring in a major way. The team wants to bring in upward of 50 people across all disciplines to work on their next big game for PlayStation 4. Their project is well into production, and they're hiring fast. So, why Santa Monica Studio?

Santa Monica Studio is part of the PlayStation Worldwide Studios 1st party family and is renowned for evolving the action/adventure genre with the iconic God of War franchise. They have also championed innovation in games, and continued to mentor new voices in independent development. Whether it’s through the incubation program established with thatgamecompany and their series of widely acclaimed titles, flOw, Flower and Journey, or their work with Giant Sparrow on The Unfinished Swan and What Remains of Edith Finch, or the development partnerships with external developers like The Chinese Room on Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture or Fun Bits Interactive on Fat Princess Adventures, Santa Monica Studio’s External Development continues to push the boundaries of gaming.

Oh, but it will. From what I've heard from some folks I know, even smaller indie devs that are supposed to ship a PS4 game this year are beeing briefed about it already. But I dont think it will be at E3 tho, just a guess no info.

Has this been brought up yet? I don't know if it means much but PlayStation China wrote an article on the history of Crash (ND games and sadly nothing else):
http://www.weibo.com/ttarticle/p/show?id=2309403979692309924936

Yeah, people posted here a tweet from Zhuge talking about it. Add one more factor to the list of hints and teases

I could definitely see Neo held off until Gamescom (PW?) tbh.
Otoh, if MS goes all out with their slim (I don't imagine they would announce Scorpio so far out) at $299,I could also see Sony announcing a standard $299 price (which is probably be their plan anyway), and perhaps move up their Neo reveal at E3 for Fall (end of Sept?) and a price of $399.

Now Scorpio (if real, but it looks like it) poses an interesting challenge in terms of announcements.

It is, for all intent and purposes, a new gen for Xbox, contrarily to what Neo is (in theory it has a huge power gap -and- has possibly features that the XB1 cannot have, such as VR, while the Neo is an "improved" PS4, but running the same games and with the same VR peripheral).

So unless they want to fracture the Xbox market, they have to make a clean break (obviously the Scorpio should be backward compatible).
At the level of power rumored though, it's also hard to imagine a console at anywhere less than $499 tbh.

So ... replacing the XB1, or completing it in terms of price point but with a completely different feature set both in power and peripherals?

My guess is a marketing as gen 2 XB1, replacing it at a high price with specifically tagged games (in fact PC games with the Xbox moniker), and placing the Xbox future squarely under the win10/ PC banner.

I do believe at this point that what Phil Spencer meant by "share our gaming story" is a re-orientation that will put in perspective the evolution of the Xbox platform to where it is today, and positioning itself for the future (a PC brand under the Win10 umbrella).

Exciting month(s) to come...

- With Layden and someone from ND (maybe Balestra or Wells) here to introduce someone from another studio saying that although they are hard at work on UC4 DLC and "another project starting", they finally are able to get something dear to them rolling, and they apologize for the teasing. "Crash is now home"...
- Sony Bend's time to shine, they introduce their new title, dated "2017": Dead Don't Ride (DDR): Post Apocalyptic horror open world, mix of Mad Max, TLOU and The Walking dead with a gameplay trailer
- Santa Monica goes on stage to introduce God of War 4, with a gameplay trailer in a brand new setting (Viking pantheon). Dated "Fall 2017".

50 is a LOT of people for a studio whose game is already in full production. Makes me wonder if they're hiring for a second project.

I really doubt it's for a second project. Considering the new IP failed, I doubt Sony will let them develop one again so soon. From what was said when the news broke in 2014, the remaining team members were put onto God of War, which was already in pre-production at the time.

Do studios hire people when a project is already deep in production though?

I think Neo announcement is possible but it needs to be announced at the same time as PS4 pricedrop. The price gap needs to be obvious at reveal so there won't be this weird phase of people waiting for Neo because PS4 is only 50$ cheaper or something. 299 PS4 and 399 Neo announcement would make only those who really want Neo to wait.

I hope so. We know Barlog is the creative director on GoW4, so that leaves the studio with another creative director beeing Nathan Gary, even tho I think his role as director has more to do with their external projects

Santa Monica Studio could easily have two teams, they are on an area with a lot of talent and a bunch of studios to make contracted assets

Team sizes always ramp up for and during full production. But if God of War went into full production 1.5 to 2 years ago, I find it odd that they're just now hiring so many people. Usually it's more incremental or closer to when the production begins. Studios also contract others for help with assets and such. Again, hiring over 50 people is a lot and raises my eyebrow.

I could easily be wrong though. God of War is a massive project and they have realized they need a substantially bigger team.

It's possible the game had an unusually long pre-production cycle.

I just want them to atleast announce it officially now. Cory already dropped the bomb at PSX 2014, and it's time we got an official confirmation.

Possible but this hiring spree began in March of this year. Even if we assume that they spent all of 2014 doing pre-production, that would still mean over a year of full production. You don't hire this kind of man-power at once unless you're gearing up for something significant like the beginning of full production or to get something else off of the ground.

This is all just conjecture though. Plus I'm an optimist lol.

So when do the actual rumors start happening? Like a day before the conferences?

That's more or less what happened last year. The rumor of TLG resurfacing happened on June 9th. Yu Suzuki posted a picture of a forklist on his Twitter account on June 14th. And Siliconera posted a rumor about FF7R being real early in the morning on June 15th (the day of E3).

If Crash is really happening, I think that should start off the conference, and then followed by Sony Bend's title. Main reason is because Layden will start the conference most likely and I think it makes sense for him to be the one who announces it.
I liked the way last years started with TLG and Horizon, and Crash and Dead Don't Ride would be a nice copy of last years start. The only thing I feel they messed up with was ending on Uncharted, it should have been something new, which they can do by ending it with a big Horizon demo, and then the one last thing of GOW4.

I've seen a few people suggest a December release for Horizon, wouldn't that kill Horizon's sales? Don't games usually do bad in December? I'd rather it be delayed than for it to do awful in December and kill a potential new series.

Nah, it will be director of the game, Druckmann

Ok good, just wondering. It'd be nice to hear some more Crash rumors though.

But what about this guy? Wasn't he vetted by Y2Kev?

So... Looks like I'll be doing the OT again? I've been doing the OTs since 2010 lol.

A chill just went down my spine. People have been calling Gaf Sony Gaf for a while now and if the Neo gets announced it truly will be NeoGaf. :(

Does anyone think Sony could do a surprise PS4K BC for all prior PlayStation consoles or would they just leave it to PS Now? Is there anything saying it's a possibility? Maybe they want to react to X1's BC.

Why two years? Why a waste? They are big enough to have several projects going at once.

For the millionth time. ND is not interested in making platformers. If Sony acquired the Crash IP, they should build a new studio to make it, or expand an existing studio. Not just gave a studio the IP and telling them to do it. Also, yeah Neil writing Crash is a huge waste of Neil´s talent. Neither Bend or any other studio should make a Crash game, unless Sony hires enough to expand studios and do multiple games. It would be such a waste if Bend were forced to make Crash.

Ps3 BC is unlikely to happen. It is too costly and the ROI appears to be too low at the time. I expect a new OS+ tier to include PlayStation plus in the future though. That's one way to attempt to fill that void

Well, I disagree. We'll see how it goes down in about to weeks.

Bolded what I don't think will happen/my thoughts (but think most of this will happen):
My prediction:

- Opens on Horizon Zero Dawn. Dated for early December 2016 with new gameplay trailer - I think it will come out in February - May 2017
- The Last Guardian - Dated September 2016
- Gran Turismo Sports additional features and new cars revealed with new trailer
- Activision presents the latest exp pack for Destiny, maybe something new (October) and there usual thing on Call Of Duty + DLC

- EA/ Lucasfilm introduces their latest Star Wars game: Rogue Squadron IV: Rogue One (compatible PSVR exclusively for VR), also present their "Battlefront experience" for PSVR
- Rockstar introduces their new title: Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR1 coming same time on PS Now) with time exclu DLC for PS4
- Gravity Rush 2 announced, dated late 2016 Japan, early 2017 US/ Europe - Announced? GR2 was announced at TGS 2015, and I think it will come out worldwide on a date between August - October this year.
- Persona 5 new trailer & release date for US/ Europe (Q1 2017) - I think it will come out in the US in December 2016
- FF XV blowout, new trailer.
- Trailer for KH 3 (dated "2017"). - I think it will come packaged with a 2.8 trailer beforehand showing the first 0.2 BBS Aqua gameplay but otherwise yeah I think KHIII will be given a 2017 release year at the show
- FF 7 R episode 1 trailer dated "2017". - I want this to happen but think Square Enix won't show it out of fear of overshadowing FFXV
- Deus Ex blowout. - Trailer maybe but not a blowout
- Yu Suzuki comes on stage with Boyes to update the fans on Shenmue 3, announced PC/ PS4 timed exclusive "2017".
- Nioh trailer with release date (August or September 2016)
- "Suprise" appearance by someone from Sucker Punch with a big tease, but no trailer: Just a giant web graphics announcing something "Spectacular" for summer/ fall 2017. - I think it's too early and they would just straight up announce it as Spider-Man if they wanted to announce anything this year

I'm not keeping up with "what to expect" but I'll just put in:

- New Crash game
- New Spiderman game by Sucker Punch
- PS4 Neo reveal

Any rumored stuff?

Dead Don't Ride (Bend's game)
Norse God of War
Days Gone trademark (not a rumor but it will probably be shown)

There's some generic E3 rumors and confirmations floating around...

- Shadow of Mordor 2 from Warner Bros.
- Resident Evil reboot from Capcom
- New game from Deep Silver (confirmed, probably Volition or 4A)
- Take Two coming in a "Big Way" to go along with the Red Dead rumors
- New IP from EA (This is confirmed)

There's a chance any of these could show up at Sony or Microsoft's conferences

Is it? I thought the only new thing we were seeing was a new Unravel?

I doubt they announce PS4 Neo in E3 if they are supposed to release it in Autumn or so. I also think it's too soon to see Shenmue III gameplay, but we may get a small update on it.
I'd say a major hardware release needs to be announced months in advance. If it's indeed releasing in autumn, E3 should be perfect for that, plenty of time to convince people to upgrade and explain how the new ecosystem works.

It's not a sku revision with a bigger HDD, it's a new console and people need to know what's it about.

I really have a hard time wrapping my head around the anger that gets thrown around when someone says they hope Crash isn't happening. To be clear, I also think that "fuck you and fuck Crash" is a shitty attitude, but we all have preferences. I also hope that Sony does not use first party resources on a new Crash game. If they reacquire or license the rights—and I think they have or will soon—I hope that they contract it out to a studio like Sanzaru.

In my opinion, a developer like Naughty Dog should not be investing its resources in a remake or reboot of Crash. The original games were alright, but I've seen enough of them. It's tough to say that with Crash fans in mind, but game development is often about opportunity cost. Sony only has so many internal development resources, and there are things I'd rather see them prioritize.

I feel no enmity toward those who are bummed that Japan Studio is still working on The Last Guardian (which I'm really looking forward to), or toward those who want Spider-Man or more InFamous from Sucker Punch (I desperately want to see them go in a new direction). It's beyond silly to malign someone for wanting to see Sony's development efforts align with their tastes.

No, why increase the price by around 100 bucks just for PS3 BC when the thing will already be about 400+.

PS Now is not for BC its something different.

I think it has less to do with their personal tastes and more to do with the fact that the word "waste" is thrown around. From what I'm seeing, if Naughty Dog decided they wanted to do a Crash Bandicoot game, the fact people think it's a 'waste' is what is getting people's goat. Saying "I don't think Crash is the kind of game Naughty Dog should be making, I would prefer _____" is fine. Saying "Crash is a waste of their talent, they should never ever do a platformer because they're REALLY good at 'Genre B' and platformers can't have good writing and they can't have setpieces" is horseshit.

And maybe it's a weird personal thing, but I think it's almost reductive because it pigeonholes Naughty Dog into a category of game that they've shown time and time again is not their only possible strength. I mean, let's be blunt, Sony's not forcing them to do anything at this point. The way Naughty Dog works is WHAT works about them. If they took on Crash, it wouldn't be an order from on high, the way I see it.

I think this is mostly right, and "ND opting to do Crash would be a waste" sort of falls in the bucket of "fuck you and fuck Crash," I think. It implies a hierarchy of "worthiness" of games, and that's mostly bullshit. From an economic perspective this sort of language is cognizable, but from an artistic one it's untenable. I would hate to see ND return to platformers, but there's no right or wrong about it.

And I think it's smart to point out that Sony won't be dictating to ND. The "wasted talent" frame often seems to suggest that ND would be making Crash games against their will. No fucking way.

I see ND making Crash the same way I see when Retro makes anything not Metroid Prime 4.

It's not a waste and the games they make are absolutely fantastic. But god dammit I just want Metroid Prime 4. Fuck.

(For ND that would be TLOU2/new IP).

If there is a new Crash game there is no chance in hell ND are helming the project lol.
Maybe they would be consultants but that's it.

They've gone on record saying that's not necessarily the game they want to make right now. I'd expect TLoU 2 and a new IP (on PS5) over the next 4-6 years.

Sony have to announce something regarding their E3 plans this week - hopefully today.

They're being unusally quiet.

Gopher, Verendus, Zoetis, Shinobi, Jason Schreier - GAF needs your mystical Sony information power. :D

Oh Gopher is lurking.

And he seems excited, which in turn makes all fans of Sony excited if they know his fabled status on Gaf.

I miss Verendus tho.

His posts confused the shit out of me but I always laughed - wouldnt be surprised if he was behind the legendary FakeKazCEO twitter.

And I like you would love to see Agent return this E3. :D
