Polygon: Xbox Scorpio will be a ~6 TFLOP system (v PS4K's 4.14), unveil soon, Fall 17

Lets try and not talk about people who post on Twitter and not on this forum.

Its not conducive to a productive conversation.

Back to terraflops and RAM speculation :)

If it's a uhd console (which might not happen at all - I don't see a big audience for discs in general in the future) then it has to do HTML 5. But they don't have to use WebKit for that, they could easily just use their own browser, of course. At least they got rid of that java trash that was mandatory for Blu-ray.
Edit: with uhd i mean uhd bluray. Being uhd capable is a given in my opinion.
The Launch PS4 and XB1 are officialy UHD Capable and were supposed to be firmware updated Jan 2016.

The blu-ray drive in the XB1 and PS4 is firmware update-able. Differences in the Mount Fuji book 8 and 9 give what has to be updated. A BDXL drive with 2010 specs can read a UHD disk but the AACS 2 decryption which takes place in the Media TEE requires some firmware changes in the Drive. A BD-ROM drive requires the 2010 panasonic-sony tweak to get 33 GB/layer which the BDXL drive already has and the same firmware updates a BDXL drive requires.

Sony has a licence for a Game Console player and a PC application player while Microsoft does not. So PCs use Microsoft's DRM for UHD and Sony's UHD Player. The XB1 MAY use Sony's player but for sure Sony is using Microsoft's WMDRM, Playready porting kit 3 and ND (It's in the PS4 intellectual notice).

I like timdog. He is consistent. He loves Xbox, but more importantly, he loves games. There is nothing wrong with being passionate about a brand, although I really do question why a grown-ass man cares so much.

Crapgamer and Mooch on the other hand...

Timdog's a fanboy dickhead and I'm surprised Phil is associating himself with someone like that.

Have you ever personally talked to Tim?

If you don't even know the guy then you're going over board by calling him a dick head.

He is very pro Xbox and he can get really over zealous on Twitter but he is a really nice guy to talk to.

I don't need to know him in real life. His social media presence is toxic enough, thanks.

When I think "nice guy," I always think of grown men who harass kids at Gamestops because they bought the wrong console.

What a sweetheart!

You do realize the guy in the video you posted is not Tim right?

Like I said he is way overzealous on Twitter and other social media but he isn't like that if you actually talked to him.

Ah you're right, wrong video. I still maintain he's a jerk on Twitter though based on my interactions with him. I finally blocked him because of personal attacks.

Tim is a bit of a weirdo but I dont mind him. He is a bit overzealous of course. I know he goes to a lot of xbox events and he has met Phil and Major a couple of times before.

I don't have to know him or talk to him. Dude associates himself with racists, so he's a dickhead by association.

I wouldn't read too much into it. I run that podcast you guys are talking about and Phil will sometimes retweet our stuff because he is friends with everyone on the podcast.

Nice to see you on here Rand! Welcome to NeoGAF. I listened to last night's TXR just now and wanted to comment on two things concerning Scorpio:

1. You asked if we can expect better and more consistent framerates in games. I estimate at the same visual quality of Xbox One, you can expect an easy increase resolution to something very much like a 2500X1600P (think of this as 4K's little brother) at 60 FPS with ease.

4K at 60 FPS is not an easy task, and not even the top Nvidia cards today (GTX 1080) can reach those meteoric heights without an SLI configuartion. If we do see 4K, expect developers to go for medium settings and aim for 30 FPS. Something that would be more suitable for "cinematic" single player games.

2. When your talking about Teraflops- you cannot compare an Nvidia card to an AMD card. Nvidia generally rates their cards at a much more conservative rating. When teraflops are equal, the Nvidia card generally wins by a pretty significant margin. I'll give you an example I posted earlier:

The 980ti and 290X are both 5.6 TFLOPS. However, the Nvidia cards kicks the living hell out of the AMD card. The 980ti performs TWICE AS GOOD as the AMD part, yet both are around 6 teraflops. Point? You can't compare the Teraflops of an Nvidia card and expect similar performance for an AMD part. Why? If we just took TF ratings in a vacuum the Nvidia cards are performing much better. Here's a benchmark:

980-ti-sli-bench-witcher-1440.png

As for performance, 6 teraflops will get you a 290X level of performance, so expect something very similar to that - but with the added benefit of being programmed directly for alongside AMD's architectural improvements and MS customizations.

Only? Where did I say only? Im sure there a plenty of nice guys everywhere.

Yeh I'm sure there are but I have great difficulty in seeing anyone who worships a piece of plastic and silicon as a "nice guy". To be honest, I think anyone who is as blatant a fanboy as timdog is has to have a few screws loose. It's pretty sad. Apologies if I happen to have offended you
;)
or anybody else.

A single 1080 does 4k 60fps fine with most modern games at medium/high settings.

Well all the benchmarks I've seen didn't exactly have games running at 4K 60 FPS, than again I understand that most of these benchmarks are running things at Ultra settings. Either way, the 1080 card from Nvidia is so far ahead of any thing these consoles will have- it's a moot point. The point is- 4k 60 at "high" settings is not a possibility for these consoles unless they go Nvidia and expand their budget to include the highest end single GPU available today.

Nah, you haven't offended me. I was just trying to stick up for my friend Tim. You, of course, are entitled to your opinion on the matter.

Yea it's a shame most bench marks only show ultra, the Linus guys showed performance at Ultra and High settings and of course there was a big difference, with Ultra mostly averaging in the 40s and high in the 60s. And yea I doubt the consoles will have anything as powerful I was just correcting your statement on the 1080.

40 year old man.

40 year olds, dude

Not sure why that matters. We're a generation of men and women who grew up on video games and will most likely be playing them well into old age.

I'm 36 this month and I play games this gen more than ever.
I'm guessing he was more questioning having such open bias at 40 vs just playing/enjoying games.

Myself I don't think age comes into it. You're either the kind of person who over invests or not.

I'd argue its better not to over invest but there's no age cap on it either.

EDIT: I would agree though the older you are age wise the odder it is going to look so I can get why he gets flack for it and probably will pick up more over time

Hi Rand, was just listening to your TXR podcast this morning. Not bought an Xbox this gen, but enjoy your podcast, keep up the good work.

Same here, not bought an XBO or PS4 but the podcasts are entertaining as are the ones with Tim and Mooch. I'm pleased these guys are going to get a decent box next year.

Best to look at AMD hardware which has been pointed out above, too many like to bring Titan X when really it's around the 290/290x/390x or 970/980 level at the moment (which is very good still) unless AMD change things with Vega. AMD ~6 tflop rating is like ~4 NV tflop. Hopefully has the Zen CPU as well.

When did being a fanboy become a bad thing, at least one that is reasonable? I prefer Sony consoles for a number of reasons and have never owned a Microsoft console, and probably never will. But I'm not comparable to Timdog who just shits on anything not Microsoft from great heights. lol

I would like the record to show I complimented Rand on the TXR podcast, I did not mention Mooch, that guy is the Ray Comfort of the gaming community.

So Scorpio will launch later than Neo? and will be only 30% stronger? Also what about Ram solution on it? Wouldn't changing esram affect X1 games?

Need others opinions, if MS is releasing a 6-TFLOP system what do they do with the XB1?

My gut says they act like the XB1 never happened and move on.
