Dragon Ball Super |OT2| June 12: Judgment Day

It is filler, as in filling the transition between arcs originally envisioned by the content creator. This current bullshit was not envisioned by Toriyama, it is filler.

I'm moving to a new house and we can't afford Internet. Just in time for the new saga. #fml. Hopefully, I can convince a friend let me come over and use theirs. I'm so hype for ftrunks and black goku.

Filler seems to only get applied when people want to for this series. When the show was switching things and people were all like well the movie did it this way. The response was to follow the anime. The manga has differences here and there no follow the anime now its a small lil arc people don't like now its filler.

What does this little arc accomplish story wise?

From what I understand (haven't watched it myself), it adds nothing. None of this will lead into or affect Future Trunks saga, and none of it will be referenced again in Super.

This screams filler/padding for Future Trunks.

It could have been a cool little arc to give the boys something after so long. But nah.
It's pretty much nothing of consequence and I kind of doubt it will be referenced later.

It does since he's the author.
If he didn't write the outline for it it's filler.
And that's ignoring the fact the these 3 episodes are blantly just filling time until the next arc starts

Then hey I guess most of the content of each episode is also filler, since he didn't directly write each scene. In fact, the only thing that's not filler is the manga! Wow Super just got weirdly empty.

lol yep pretty much

The base material is Toriyama's outline.

This is so vague as to be meaningless.

For starters, you have no access to so your reasoning for determining what's filler and what's not boils down to "I didn't like this episode". I want to see the receipts.gif

Second, given it is an outline, turns out Toriyama doesn't end up writing most of the scenes. So what now. There are filler scenes too?

There's no filler.

The point was to show how weak Super Saiyan 3 is so they never have to draw those awful brows again.

I'm glad we're tackling the important issues here, like whether ~66 minutes of a series that's going to last for at least 100 episodes counts or not.

Is there going to be a new thread for when the Trunks arc starts? Would be nice to start clean without all this "filler" vs "non-filler" nonsense going on right now.

There's also the issue of none of these characters having Toriyama drawn lineart, even though he's supposed to be designing the characters from his story outline. And also how his words about the future of Super completely ignored this mini-arc. Obviously we can't separate completely the Toriyama outline from the final work without looking at the Toriyama outline itself, but the nature of these episodes is pretty obvious in spite of that.

I'm just telling you what they're using as the source material /shrug.
Toriyama gives them an outline, some character designs and it's up to the anime team to change/add to them.

Like Neon said, we haven't seen his designs for the characters in this small arc though so it's likely Toei drew it up themselves. If Toei wants to add stuff that's cool as long as they stay consistent. I'm kind of curious what sort of stuff Toriyama changed for the Super adaptation of the movies tbh or if that was the animation team's call or what.

How can we be sure toriyamas outline doesn't include 'after the tournement pilaf kidnaps pan and monaka accidentally takes trunks and goten into space in his truck'. We don't know for sure so it seems pointless to not just accept the show as all equal and just focus on quality rather than if something is filler

Saw this week's episode. I'm actually enjoying this filler. Just a bit of fun //shrug.

Glad SSJ3 Gotenks got ruined by Vegeta. Wouldn't make much sense for them to be able to keep up with god powers.

Really puts into perspective how much more powerful Vegeta/Goku have become.

SSJ3 Gotenks was the second strongest Z Fighter at the end of Z and he couldn't inflict any damage at all.

The filler ain't that bad, and it's only like what? 3 episodes. I'll survive. My only problem is that Vegeta would have never been absorbed by that water. Would have been nice if Goku & Vegeta stayed out of this arc

Yup. It's impossible to know, and if we assume the outline is the only canon stuff, then none of the in-between scenes count. Except, oops, we don't know which scenes those are. Guess we'll just have to ignore all of Super until the outline is released. We'll be waiting a long time for that, though. ):

Honestly I watched episode 45 and it was not very good.
Gotenks got nerfed when he was trying to be a serious help and too much dialogue (which is why I will rewatch it with subs to see if it is any better).
Goku has to save the day again which is getting real annoying.

Hopefully the next real arc can start soon.

Episode 47 spoilers:
"A SOS from the future! The Black New Enemy Appears!! 17 years in the future, a fearsome new enemy appears before Trunks.

99.9% sure they mean 17 years away from the current time. Not Trunks' time. Oh wait. I guess that would make Trunks about 30 now.
