Polygon: Xbox Scorpio will be a ~6 TFLOP system (v PS4K's 4.14), unveil soon, Fall 17

I think if you could get free pc versions of your owned x1 games that would be huge and I would drop Sony so fast.

Most 360 games are fine but pc versions of 2011 and later games would be good too

I could care less about developers taking advantage of the 6 TFLOPS, resolution, aa, and 60fps make a world of a difference. Just look at pc vs ps4 multiplatform games.

Who's excited for some Scalebound on Scorpio this Fall?

I think that's where they are heading, only with full emulation of the Xbox environment on PC.

I guess if you go all digital on all digital on Scorpio exclusive games then it creates very little market confusion. Since you dont have yet another set of games on store shelfs cluttering things up. You just have all the games on the digital store front and xbox one/ xbox 360 backwards compatible. Im so excited for this new push to blend PC with consoles.

Matt, one of our insiders on Neogaf said this back in April in a thread where the question was about if the next Xbox would 'blow the Neo out of the water'. The Neo and Scorpio could very well be close in power and if that's the case then releasing the latter in Fall 2017 would be a mistake.

It would be embarrassment for MS if Scorpio ends same or slightly more powerful than Neo a year after Neo's launch ( if Scorpio comes out during fall 2017 ).

If the Neo is launching this fall, it won't be housing the same GPU as the Scorpio. The Neo would be close to manufacture process now.

They're launhcing a new XB1 slim SKU this year. Announcing Scorpio will sure fuck up their plans.

I dont get such argument. In what way would a more powerful console fuck up people that want a Xbox now?

Will a more powerful Graphics Card fuck up current Graphics Cards? Nope.
Will a new announced Iphone 8 fuck up iphone 7 sales? Nope.

If someone really wants a xbox now, he will buy one. I mean the bigger elephant in the room is the Xbone SLIM. I mean do we really need this when a stronger Box is on the way?
And i dont think that a lot of people will "upgrade" to the slim. I think more people will rather upgrade to Scorpio.

To be fair, all the info we have is vague, and some of it conflicts. I still expect a 4 teraflop Neo, but maybe they upped the clock speeds or maybe the CPU/GPU architecture info we have is just not accurate.

Even if nothing changes and everything we know is right on the money, Neo is still within the same ballpark, and both Neo and Scorpio will likely have limitations so they don't alienate vanilla console owners.

Strategy-wise, getting a console out this year is likely a better move than waiting an additional year for a bit more power.

Console buyers have never been tested with incremental upgrades. Those two categories are embedded in that loop

Don't the rumours blow that theory out of the water though, Neo @ 4TF and Scorpio @ 6TF? It'll be a bigger gap than current PS4 > Xbox One that performance, unless I'm reading it wrong?

Sure it is. PS3 launched a year later and performed worse for most of the generation.

Sure it's not! I said, PS3 and X360 specs were FINALIZED and both consoles should come out around same timeframe. Then PS3 launch was delayed shortly after X360 launch.

But by the sound of it, nobody outside of MS knew jackshit about the Scorpio specwise until the other week. I think he was just offering his opinion

So it'll be totally fine if MS says we'll release scorpio in may but have to push it back to november? But it would be an embarassment if they announce it for november directly?

If Neo and Scorpio's power are same, give me a reason why Scorpio need to be delayed, it's not like MS need to push BD like PS3.

To make sure it has a significant (!) amount of extra beef at a reasonable price?

I for one think it's clever, because just doing the same as the market leader (release a more powerful SKU at the same time for the same price) would just be damage control.

How many current xbox owners will go out and buy an xbox slim?

Not sure what you mean here. The slim is mostly for people who don't own XB1. But yes, some current xbox owners will buy XB1 slim.

Because many won't risk buying an XB1 when the new hotness comes 1 year later.

And to both your questions: yes and yes.

It's no elephant. The slim will reduce the manufacturing cost of each unit and provide retail with a fresh looking SKU. Bi-winning. It's the perfect stop-gap whilst waiting on Scorpio.

Already sold mine, waiting for the end of the year when there's maybe a game worth playing and a slim model...cant stand that beast box on my bedroom alongside wiiu and ps4

The Rumored Neo GPU has the same CU count as this RX480 5.5TF AMD GPU but clocked lower

Neo: 36CU at 911MHz

2304 * 911MHz * 2 = ~4.2TF

Rx480: 36CU at over 1GHz

2304* 1200MHz*2 = ~5.5TF

A theoretical Scorpio would be

2304* 1300MHz * 2 = ~6TF or they could opt for more CUs/sp at lower clock.

That is if my calculations are right. They have to take into account power consumption which is rated to be around 150W for RX480. PS4 idle is rated to be about 90W on menu and about 130W during gaming.
They dont have to hit 6TF as per the Polygon article and something that I have previously pointed out as well.

Exactly.

It's quite ironic how many people are rooting for this scenario.
But they won't be "Cross gen", they will be all the same gen just different tiers, like PC. PC doesn't suffer because of this neither would console, think you are looking at it the right way. Having to restart over from scratch every gen is stupid. Generations are a thing of the past.

Interestig could both be based on the same card?

The drawback is developers will now have to make games and optimize for multiple devices which will be very annoying and hard. I expect even more patches and disfuncional games than ever.

It would be a tragedy. Or better a disaster. No, not right. A catastrophe. Of epic scale, to say the least.
The sun would go dark for six days, but on the seventh day the legendary hero Mark Cerny himself would bring light again to earth, with a flame given to him by the almighty Ken Kutaragi. For the age of Sony has come.
Amen.

PC suffer all the same. Console and low end PC is holding back high end PC all the time.
Generations are stupid but it also spark new innovation and I like console maker when they take risk.

PC suffer all the same. Console and low end PC is holding back high end PC.

That is not true what holding back high end PC is price just look at how Blizzard does games. This notion that games are held back by consoles needs to die. There hold down by costs and profits. Making huge costing games for that 1% makes no sense.

Some people say Sony would not let MS have the more powerful hardware, but i don't see why not. Look at PS360, sure the PS3 was slightly more powerful but it also had to cope with slightly lesser multiplatform games, but despite all that the PS3 sold pretty damn well. I really doubt the userbase of PS4 will make Xbox their main system anytime soon, so i think they will be ok.
