Explore the Alola Region in Pokemon Sun and Moon Trailer

How the shit is there an ice region in a tropical island setting? Does is really get that much colder at higher altitudes in Hawaii?

Good character designs, but please, I hope they'll confirm clothes customization too.

Time to chain fish a shiny Carvanha to transfer over if they keep the surfing mechanics from ORAS.

There are rocks around the shores, doesn't look like you can Surf between the islands.
Considering some of the shit they drop between gens it wouldn't surprise me (and would make me happy) of they did drop Mega Evolutions.

They've never dropped forms or battle mechanics. Megas are a big and popular feature, they aren't going anywhere.

Bad trailer like always but the footage looks great. It's all very charming stuff, I love the vibe Sun and Moon is giving off. I love all the human designs shown so far, which I really didn't do in XY. Great!

And Pokedex Rotom is goofy as hell, I think I'd normally not like it much, but I do! I've always loved Rotom so I'm biased, but I'm just happy it's getting some more love.

Have we heard if Mega Evolution will return for this gen?

We haven't seen any direct proof for it but it is a major part of Pokemon now. The chance of it being dropped is so extraordinarily close to zero. I'm not sure why people keep asking this, they may as well be asking "Have we heard if the Gen 5 Pokemon are returning?".

I like how each island seems like a small open world, it'll definitely be interesting to see how the first next gen Pokemon game will be structured.

I think by dropping mega evolutions people just mean no new ones and no longer having them in the main plot.
I'd like to be able to completely ignore them on my end if they are still in the game. Sun and Moon look like the full 3D Pokémon games we've been wanted on home consoles for the last three generations and I'd love to get back in the series (last game being HG) but Mega Evolutions don't sit right with me.

I haven't played these games since I was a child, I had red for Gameboy. Why do people care that these Pokemon are psychic?

there's an inordinate amount of psychic legendaries, I think dragon being the second most abundant

not to mention that the abilities are redundant

Most legendaries are Psychic, although I don't think this reaction is fair as it's been a while since the main ones have had Psychic as a type (Hoopa in Gen 6 was the last and the Emotion Trio/Cresselia in Gen 4 were the second most recent).

That's still not happening either. They're a huge selling point and the best way to balance some useless as hell Pokemon.

You can do that. Even in X/Y and ORAS you were never forced to use Megas (even though they kept trying to shove them down your throat.).

Why does Pokemon have to be useful? Sure Charizard might be trash due to stealth rock but you can still get through he game with one, same goes for every other fully evolved Pokemon in the series.

lol. I wonder where that guy who kept adamantly saying he really could believe the starter island was the only island in the whole world map because that seemed so 'Nintendo', is. I wonder if he ever owned up to the dumbest post of 2016. Turns out it's the smallest of the large islands :x

Meloetta and Hoopa are the only Psychic-type legendaries in the last two gens, and both are mythical, so more Psychic legendaries isn't bad at this point.

meloetta is Psychic and from Gen 5

X&Y did have the mega lucario battle that you had to do but i dont know if you had to mega evolve in it

Why do people say stuff like this? It's just odd.

So the Legendaries are just Psychic types? That's a bit underwhelming; the screamed Fairy with Fire or Dark to me. Even if it's apparently a grab at Yokai Watch, though, I love Rotom, so the new Dex seems like a good idea.

wait, someone genuinely thought of that?

Psychic is still better than Dragon.

The character designs are the best in the series since Gen 5, I'm glad they seem to be stepping away from Gen 6's lackluster designs. The female MC specially is great, she's one of the best designs for the player characters along with the female BW2 trainer too.

I'm disappointed by the region design since it looks like nothing really stands out, just 4 islands and very few recognizable landmarks. But at the same time, I'm glad the region design isn't a mess like Kalos (that snowy area out of nowhere, rivers conveniently getting in the way of potential routes...).

I feel like this games will be closer to BW than to ORAS and XY. And I sure hope so.

PD: The legendaries typing is annoying.

Did anyone else notice the distinct lack of ocean routes on the map? The ORAS map, which was done in exactly the same style, featured all of the ocean and water routes - but in Alola, there aren't any that connect the islands.

Perhaps we could be getting more of a free roam surfing experience?

Or maybe we just take boats from island to island.

I'm not exactly sure why the equivalent of Multiscale is bad, in any universe.

Also, Sunsteel Strike and Moongeist Beam have Mold Breaker effects on them, which is pretty cool.

[edit] Whoo, this news dump has tiny bits of cool everywhere in it :)

Not impressed that the multiple Pokédex is returning, hated that gimmick in X and Y as it was a pathetic attempt to hide that Kalos had a low Pokémon count.

Really hoping that Alola has more than 72 new Pokémon.

I'm not sure why people keep asking this, they may as well be asking "Have we heard if the Gen 5 Pokemon are returning?".

Because the gen 5 Pokémon are real Pokémon and can be sent forward via Pokémon Bank, mega are not real Pokémon and can not be sent forward as bank blocks items being sent.
