Explore the Alola Region in Pokemon Sun and Moon Trailer

Am I forgetting where health was in the last few games? Was it always top right/bottom left? I feel like my world was a lie if it was.

I'm not sure I follow. Is your complaint that the game is still linear? Were you expecting the series to just buck that trend? Because at the very least the world design seems a lot more organic and less grid-like here. And I don't see how you're convinced there's going to be less exploration, tbh. This region looks condensed in a way the others weren't, but that's just because each island seems to have all of its space available for the player to explore. That's not to say that there aren't places to step off the beaten path onto. At any rate, I think it's way too early to say whether or not this game will coddle players like X/Y did but I certainly do not understand how you could come to that conclusion based off what we've seen today.

edit; i'm looking over that huge version of the map and it looks like there's probably a fair amount of forest routes and mountain passes and things like that, that aren't immediately apparent upon first glance.

I wasn't expecting the series to lose the linearity, but at the same time, how can you really have a RPG whose exploration holds your hand so tightly that you're from point A to Z in boring fashion? 6th gen suffered from this (in conjunction with having a pisspoor story so bad that it made the exploration exponentially boring) and I was hoping that they'd ease up a little and allow for a bit of freedom. Losing the grid and having a more condensed map design doesn't necessarily mean that there will be more exploration. In fact, if the map is condensed, and you're eliminating the large spaces in between cities where players could explore; then what are you really exploring? Part of the reason why I think they may still coddle the player has to do with GF's thinking in a couple of interviews they had where they were questioned over the ORAS's easier difficulty. And considering their BS excuses about mobile gaming meaning that they need to grab a kid's attention, this isn't something I expect to change anymore and the region map seems to be an indication.

Well it's definitely not watching the trailer for something millions of people are excited about and only pointing out the things you think, based on zero evidence, might be a negative.

Millions of people are excited about the trailer, so that means I must be too? Also, I never said that it was fact, just something I'm not particularly excited about given what I noticed about the region map. If you disagree, then by all means.

The more I explore that zoom in map, the more questions I have about everything on the map. But, I think the bottom-right island is my favorite.

Well, I can say for sure that Aloha is looking way more interesting than Kalos ever did. So happy with that map.

The islands don't look like they'll give the player room to explore, in fact, it looks like there's a pathway that can take you to the locations highlighted in the areas. This looks to continue what XY did where you went from area to area without taking your hand off the game's and allowing you to explore. And even when the game gave the player a chance to explore, the area itself was small and braindead.
.

This is the first step towards Pokemon including actual exploration. Eventually, the routes in the game will look something like Zelda. Just wait for 2026.

Looks great. I'm worried about the camera, it was awful in the behind the back segments of X/Y.

There's actually another town like it on one of the other islands. You can see one of those red temple gates + more Japanese-style buildings.

I'm kind of disappointed by this slew of new information. Solgaleo and Lunala have mediocre types, reused abilities, and boring exclusive moves. The region itself looks very condensed, which isn't bad by itself. The problems arise when you remember that GF has hurt the series with their excessive streamlining.

Has anyone else noticed that Lillie looks like she could be from Kalos? She looks very Poke-French.

Oh god. I know it's a joke and all, but to take inspiration from Zelda would be going on the opposite end of the extreme lol. Zelda games have a knack for large and interesting spaces that ultimately end up being braindead and empty.

We really don't know how much the islands will give us to explore but I gotta disagree that it won't give you any. The bottom screen map from in game that someone pulled from the site much earlier in the thread looks like it has some nooks and crannies to look into already. There's also much more detail now with them going with large scale models instead of everything trapped in a chibi grid-based top-down style. There's more verticality and that can bring about more options to explore from island to island. And the video only seems to show off the first island in the earliest spots. There should be more areas to walk to since you're not hampered as much as you were in previous games and each island looks to be its own adventure.

I'm not too sure. Never seen a Pokemon League coddle its guests with a hotel.

That doesn't look like a horrible trainer-infested cave to me. So I don't believe it's the entryway to the Pokemon League.

That hotel is most definitely on the island to the east of the starting island. You can even see the roundabout.

attack on pokemon confirmed

You're probably joking but

I really agree with this. Especially after looking through the zoomable version of the map, there are so many things on these islands to find and discover. Hopefully that means that there will be a few areas for you to find on your own, even if there's the linearity of a Pokemon game there.

Why does Pokemon have to be useful? Sure Charizard might be trash due to stealth rock but you can still get through he game with one, same goes for every other fully evolved Pokemon in the series.

Not sure if serious. Incase... Because how and why you play the games isn't the same for everyone else.

I personally wish that every final Evo form is strong enough with the right ability to make them viable on the competitive scene.

Man relooking at the Alola region and it just looks beautiful and I can't wait to travel trough it with my trusty Charmander.

Anyone know what this area on the bottom-right island could be? (Or if there's a familiar Hawaiian inspiration.)

Powerplant maybe?

Looks like the level designers have finally done away with the archaic tile based world map. It looks more like an actual world now.

Yokai Watch in my Pokémon game?

I'm guessing Sunlight Strike a Steel-type move and Moongeist Beam is a Ghost-type move.

EDIT:
Sunsteel Strike. Wow. How did I miss that?

This looks like the Pokémon game I've been waiting for for a long time. Not too excited about the legendaries but the gameplay just looks great too me, finally looks like the are taking a bigger step forward.

I'm more curious if dive will make a return. I want to scuba in Alola! Hawaii is pretty well known for glass boat rides and scuba diving at coral reefs.
