Polygon: Xbox Scorpio will be a ~6 TFLOP system (v PS4K's 4.14), unveil soon, Fall 17

Then it will cost 600 bucks lol, if the 6 tflops target is true.

Keep fighting, soldier.

Microsoft is notorious for being late to the party. What have they done lately that makes you believe they will do any better with Scorpio?

I found this post really ironic.

The only example of MS bring late to the party that notorious is closed touch focused cosumer OS for phones. Even then there is only two players in that party.

Is this finalised though? The other thread said NEO specs are not. Thanks for the clarification though, I did not know this, appreciate the response instead of condescension and people getting defensive. Still doesn't come near making up the TFLOP gap.

I'm sure that specs of both systems are not finalized. Can go either way.

XB1 reveal > release was 6 months, it looks like they're announcing it at E3, if it's for fall 2017 that would be 18 months early. That's too long.

I'm not sure when it's releasing but if it's actually being revealed at E3 this year like everything is pointing to, I could see a 2016 release based on them not wanting to kill their sales over the holiday. If it's 2017 they can't reveal it this year unless they are completely giving up on the xbox one and basically dropping it like a rock, which isn't happening in Gears year. Not to mention there's the slim, so yeah.

Definitely bookmarking this post.

Waste of a bookmark, I doubt he'll be here by the time the price is revealed

Take a deep breath, count to five, and think before you make duplicate posts in multiple threads or spout off comments like "6tf? It will be $600!".

Instead of condescension , at least attempt to post where I am wrong? I gladly admit I was not fully aware of the hardware was out already, instead people are more concerned with piling on someone and making cracks, Interesting . Still don't see anyway a 6 TFLOP scorpio launches the same time as NEO and is a lot more powerful. Only 1 person attempted to post sensibly to give me reasons instead of posts like "LOL BOOKMARKING". I joined gaf because I thought it was a place beyond that stuff, I was wrong. Not really any better then any other message board sadly.

I think we all HAVE to agree to at least one thing. ONE THING.

IF they are announcing it during this E3. Its coming out this year, (which I don't see it happening). So I don't think they will announce it this E3 at all, they will announce it next year during their Spring hardware event and launch it within couple of months.

Announcing it next week and releasing it after 18 months. Is something I can bet money on, will NEVER happen. We live in an age where even 6 month period between reveal and launch is a stretch, people would forget and there would literally be no hype by the time it comes out next fall.

Pre-Order NOW. Is something any company want to say when they announce a product. .

Are they?

360 was one year early
Xbox One was same month as PS4
They've been updating the Xbox OS basically monthly since launch window, while Sony was updating once every 6 months at best.

If anything, Microsoft has a history of going too early for their own good.

My friend complains that every time he turns on his Xbox, he has to update it again.

I think the hardcore like updates. I think the casual joe hates them.

Yep.

The only problem here is it's nearly guaranteed to be announced this E3, Polygon said soon, Phil's #creativechatter stuff on Twitter/Shirts. It puts them in a hard situation here, if it's not revealed in a week, MS fucked up. If it is revealed in a week but isn't due out this year, MS fucked up.

Your friend probably turns on his Xbox once in couple of months.

Even if its monthly updates, they are pretty small.

I'm thinking final Scorpio spec will be something like:

semi custom APU -

8-core/16 thread Zen @ 2.5 GHz. Powerful, lots of IPC, clocked similar to a Summit Ridge for highend laptop / low-end desktop but same architecture, and much, much better than Jaguar.

semi custom GPU with new features drawn from R&D on Navi architecture - 48 CUs @ whatever clockspeed keeps thermals and power draw reasonable. 6 ~ 7 TFLOP GPU.

16 GB HBM2

Motherboard can be pretty small due to not having GDDR chips and external bus. Everything is on a single package (cpu, gpu, hbm2, interposer, etc)

$399 October / November 2017 launch.

What is pointing to Scorpio being revealed at E3? The only things I've seen mentioned for E3 from the Xbox team in regards to hardware is a new controller and a smaller (by about 40%) Xbox One.

Correct me if wrong, but neither insider scoop from Kotaku or Brad Sams mentioned anything about Scorpio being revealed this year. I think they both stated the specs were target and weren't event finalized. Perhaps I'm wrong, but there is no precedent for an unfinished machine being officially announced and I doubt it will be finalized in less than 2 weeks in time for E3.

I think the earliest we'll hear about Scorpio is the Microsoft spring 2017 hardware event.

It is interesting how they reversed roles this gen in many ways with Sony doing bigger, more infrequent updates and Microsoft doing small, frequent updates.

I agree, but I think it will launch in spring 2017, not fall, so they might be forced to announce at E3, because:

- It "counters" Neo, even though we all know that this won't get in the way of Neo selling like hotcakes during the holiday season, they kinda have to have a response, otherwise the media will have similar impressions of when Morpheus was announced (Sony is ready, but where is MS?)

- If they also announce a slim, and price it very aggressive could be very good for their sales, and maybe even gain some momentum despite announcing Scorpio early.

It's not releasing this year lol. Not a single (3rd party) dev got a scorpio devkit.

I was actually going to say that after Hololense reveal in Jan 2015, then Surface Book reveal last Oct, I believe in MS for keeping surprises. Even the top MS journalist did not see that coming.

But for Console its a different thing, you make a good point. you would think that by now it should be in developers hand if they are aiming for this year.

Well, 10 days we will know.

Come on guys, 6 TF, naturally it will cost $666.

I mean, really, it's so simple.

honestly I think if it is 6 tf though, or possibly higher, i think it will release in late 2017 if not later, if they want to hit a $399 sweet spot I mean

Im telling you this will not be the case. 3 months max.

And i'm telling you its not likely. You can't have it both ways. Either you want the system significantly more powerful with Zen, and HBM2 and a Vega architecture cheaper or the same price.

Or you want it to be close to PS4K with a slight upgrade of Jaguar and maybe a GDDR5 refitting and the same Polaris GPU upclocked running hotter

Pick one

Not a coincidence that the moment they have a meeting with devs, the information gets leaked out about Scorpio.

Well you can't just assume its' gonna cost $600 without some valid reasoning.

I'm gonna share this one more time.

I didn't assume, it was an estimate if they launched it this year. Not meant to be taken as gospel at the dollar lol, come on people. The point being more expensive then neo, considering neo is less flops and using jaguar if the specs leaked are true. Not sure what x1 and Ps4 have to do with anything. In order for Scorpio to up NEO by that many flops it would need a new CPU....

I totally get that. But Panos will be exerting his influence over the team. I mean, it's no different to Ive being credited with all hardware involving Apple. I'm sure there's still different individual teams that work on the Phone, iPad, MacBook etc. But Ive gets the credit.

With Panos overseeing, the Slim and Pro (what I think it will be called, Xbox One Pro) will look vastly different than they would have had Panos not been involved.
Yeah, I suggested that first in this thread.

I see them ditching the One branding at their first opportunity. They wouldn't want to diminish the meaning of their Pro braiding either, which insinuates productivity work.

Hopefully Brian Roper is there to reveal the new hardware, lol. Dude is hype!

MS' monthly updates are usually feature rich though.

Dude cracks me up!

My bet is Spring with the rest of their hardware. Scorps get's it's own reveal tho.

And, yes, no way it'll be called Xbox One anything.

Yea that's kind of what I'm thinking. I think it becomes "Xbox" for the slim models and "Xbox Elite" for everything meant as a high end model.

Well Brad Sam's podcast was leaking their E3, and focused on Scorpio, so yeah he's implying it'll be announced at E3, no?

Then after all of the Scorpio stuff leaked, Phil Spencer is on twitter saying lots of creative chatter today, can't wait to share our story at E3. I think it's clear he's responding to the Scorpio rumours, in that case, if they aren't revealing it at E3 what story do they have to share at E3 (taking the context of the tweet into consideration, unless I'm misunderstanding the tweet?)?

There's also the investigation Ekim did and found out two hardware consoles FCC NDA's expiring this year.

Couldn't it not being finalized be referring to upclock/downclocking, which can be done whenever really.

In response to your edit, if it's not coming out this year, I agree, they should wait until 2017 to reveal it at their event. But if it's going to be at this years E3 (or at any 2016 event), it's coming out this year IMO.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmhmmmmmmmmmmm.....I dont think HBM2 is gonna be cheap.

I could be wrong but eh.
