I really doubt it. I think they stand to lose too much ground if they don't. Even if they both completely flop Microsoft can't risk not throwing their hat into the ring.

The fact that it was extremely hard to tell shows you the sad state in here.
I mean... there's really only have one guy going overboard. And on the other side, we have multiple people (including you) actively trying to LOWER people's expectations in regards to scorpio.
Well you have to understand that even if the 480 is available now that doesn't mean they can just throw together a system and sell it on store shelves.
It requires testing, manufacturing, marketing and shipping; and that's just being incredibly simple about it.
It takes time which is why I think early 2017 is pretty much the earliest you'd see it. Also the difference seems to be that the Neo is probably going with a stock CPU while the Scorpio is looking to upgrade which might require a bit more time to be ready but even Zen seems like it could fit into an early 2017 schedule.

I'm buying a Neo and building a PC with likely based off the same GPU(with a much better CPU obviously). All bases covered outside of Nintendo games, but they haven't given me much reason to care in a long time. Been thinking about going back to PC for while after spending last 4 years mostly on console and with Microsoft putting all their exclusives on PC it's the perfect combo to have access to pretty much every game.

Your right i shouldnt have said now i ment in the same time frame as the neo. After all speculation about them both was only seperated by a couple of weeks .. If scopio was same as neo overclocked sony would overclock to. Phil specifically said in reference to sony rumours no xbox 1.5 meaning his prepared to wait for a bigger upgrade.

As far as Microsoft is concerned they just want you to be in their ecosystem and buy their games.
There's not going to be a 6TF console this year for $399, as some people have suggested in this thread. That really is fan fiction.

Eg a comment like "our UWP platform allows us to continually innovate in hardware and you will see this realised next year with a powerful new Xbox, but you can continue to enjoy games on XBO knowing that your game library is secure for the future thanks to the power of Windows 10".

I don't think there's been a lot of that in regards to the specs. Most of the thread seems to be in agreement that Scorpio is much more powerful then Neo and that it's a thing.
Most of the "downplaying" has been pricing and sales talk, and that's not really downplaying anything in the slightest.

To be fair though, it's like people have come to terms with the specs so have moved onto belittling the market appeal as it's all they have left to cling to.
You would think, given the new incremental sales model, that people would be over the moon as their console of choice will be even better when it's subsequent iteration drops. But no, have to fight the good fight wearing those massive blinkers.

The PS4 rumored specs are clock 4.14TF while AMD RX 480 is clocked at 5.5TF so it already a nice upgrade before you even factor in the memory and CPU. I'll probably get the card with 8GB as opposed the base 4GB card. The point is to get access to more games(ever heard of STEAM in addition the Windows Store now) while also being able to choose how I want my games to run. I was thinking about jumping back over even before the this whole idea of iterative consoles began, but now the price point makes it any easy decision. I enjoy PS exclusives too much to go only PC though and I want the best version of those exclusives.
Probably won't be buying too many of their games(never really cared for their exclusives), but it will save frustration if any more ROTTR type deals happen.

Neogaf and the pc master race seem to pretend everyone has a 980ti .. Btw my friend does and very few games he can play in 4k at 60 fps and his graphics card cost 2x my console and he bought it 3 years after me. I own an xbox and would have paid more to get a better xbox so i am looking foward to buying the scopio and then he can bring his occulus over

It's not a fantasy if someone wants to invest more into more powerful hardware. However, there still good reasons to go with a budget PC over a console even if the difference in performance is going to be negligible.

Neo and Scorpio represent a fairly radical departure from how consoles typically operate. That means there's a lot of factors to look at.
If you don't want to participate in sales/market talk, you don't have to. But MS isn't going to be putting out a product that only a handful of people are going to buy. How they approach the reveal, the pricing, how they handle the messaging, how they handle the power differential, these are all fairly important things meriting discussion.
Feel free to ignore a discussion that doesn't concern you. Plenty of posters in this very thread do that. They aren't concerned with the market area but are looking at the Scorpio as a product for themselves. Thus, the sales/market talk is irrelevant to them.
I think MS have been caught on the hop again, and if they have been rushed to market ...it'll be interesting to see their price point. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'd say since ms entered the market they have been out done by Sony in the power per buck stakes every single generation so far.. and if this is MS being rushed a half year ahead of time ...bodes to be even more price disadvantaged...

4k 60fps is an insane jump over 1080 30 which most console games run at so not surprised only playing double the cost doesn't quite get you there. the new GTX 1080 seems to run most modern AAA games at 4k 60 on high settings and 40-50 on ultra. And that's without overclocking.

Definitely not last generation based on the performance of most multiplats although the PS3's exotic architecture makes it hard to compare. The OG Xbox was definitely more powerful than the PS2, but i don't remember the prices. I think this is the first generation where Sony undeniably has the better price/power ratio compared to Xbox

PS2 and Xbox were the same price but launched a year apart, so it's hard to make a direct comparison like with later gens.
However, it's undoubtedly true that the Xbox was significantly stronger then the PS2. I remembwr the sheer differences between Chaos Theory on Xbox and PS2. Wild times.

Even if it release at early 2017, a lower clocked "480x" is higher chance than 1200mhz 480, because right now 1200mhz is too freaking hot for a console.

And if more deals like SFV happen, you can go for the better version (PC). This is the ideal combination if people care for Sony exclusives.

And speaking of which, I really hope the PC Xbox app gets some drastic improvements. I don't mind using the Windows Store (almost bought QB), but I'm not a fan of the UI and just how usable it is.

At no point ( unlike plenty of other posters ) have i started ( or in that post) console wars or playstation vs xbox. Aftwr plenty of doubters i responded quoting legitimate sources. Im bermused by how many people do want this to be a console wars thread .. Im here to talk about xbox scorpio and how its prob going to support occulus which is pretty cool. Seems a lot of people want to turn this thread into a why i will buy a neo and not an xbox because i have a pc. I will buy a scorpio because its going to be way more powerful than my xbox and will support occulus i honestly dont care if someone wants to play pc and playstation it seems strange they love posting here when theres plenty of other threads on neogaf. What interests me is talking about what pc it will be equivilant to ( i3 with 1070?) and so what performance can i expect.

New amds have dual rendering just like the 1070 so will be much faster for vr. In non vr mode maybe more like a 980 but if its got hbm will perhaps be more like a 980 ti .. Hopefully well find out soon .. Depends how much its down clocked i guess since neo is a lot slower than a 480 so prob scorpio will be to then your prob right be more like a 390x

Your dreaming if you think that $20 more your going to get a 50% more power like you stated earlier.
We don't know what the actual specs are yet and things can always change. Sony are in no hurry to release any new hardware. PS4 is on fire sales wise. Sony could simply wait and match or exceed MS. They don't need to make the first move.
