Horizon Zero Dawn - Aloy's Journey Trailer, delayed to February 28th, 2017

The story setup seems generic and the people behind Killzone are making it. They have a talent for taking an interesting story set up and then making the most boring and annoying story out of it.

They hired great writers for this game, fortunately. Admittedly however, you wouldn't know going by that trailer.

I'm actually really happy with this release date. Trailer looks phenomenal.

Hopefully the storytelling is as good and I hope it is.

Day 1.

Trailer looks awesome.

Now, with that said, when do we start questioning where these trailers are coming from? Neo footage or base PS4 footage? =P

Seems generic? How many other robot dinosaurs taking over earth games have you played? They have hired talented writers for the story for this one so judging this new ip off of killzone doesn't mean anything.

Having a talented writer is meaningless if the dev team or whoever calls the final shots and they're not very good at story (see Crysis 2 as an example).

The robot dinosaurs are unique but it's "you're an outcast with a mysterious past who wants to find out the truth". It's a generic set up. I didn't say it's bad, but that doesn't wow me. Robot dinosaurs are cool though, I never said they weren't.

And it's not like Guerilla's previous KZ efforts weren't unique. They had interesting set ups and narrative potential, but Guerilla squanders that every single time. It's a new IP, sure, but their last four games all had this problem.

However..

Nearly always, they say something like

Which becomes effectively meaningless to me. Are they saying that they didn't expect to fully realise their ambition when they first announced a 2016 release date? Just say you cocked up your estimates and its going to take longer than you previously thought. Not this PR bollocks about realising your dreams. Sometimes you make mistakes. Sometimes it is nice to hear someone say that. I won't think any less of you - I might think more of you in fact

Yeah I kind of wish they wouldn't give release dates if it is just a projection. I can forgive Playtonic though since Kickstarter requires you to make an estimate.

I feel like sony would put a lot more fanfare into their first public showing of a PS4 Neo game. Almost a full year after Uncharted 4, who says these can't be PS4 graphics?

I'm really wondering how much of the delay is due to the fact that
WE CAN FKN MELEE FIGHT NOW AND RIDE DINOS!!!!!!!!!!!!! MY HYPE CAN'T BE CONTAINTED!

Wow!!!! This looks better than the reveal. I wonder if this is snippets from the Neo version...I mean it looks quite a big step up from other open world games to me...

Visually that was nuts. I'd be shocked if any of that was running on a PS4 tbh

Still not going to come anywhere close to being excited for the narrative after Killzone though, especially not with all that trailer-ass dialog in this trailer.

The setup doesn't seem generic to me honestly. Yes, the very basic plotline behind it but the story they make out of it seems pretty interesting (plotline itself is not the only part of a story.. it's the backbone but it's what you flesh it out with that makes it interesting. That's how The Last of Us can have such a generic plotline but still be a great story).

But, I will share some hesitation about agreeing with you from what little I've seen about the developer taking an interesting story set up and making an annoying story out of it (so I'm basing this off the last Killzone. It had a very interesting premisis and from the start they really fuxored it up. If I have a hard time overlooking your plot holes to the point it annoys me, you've messed up). But, they have hired outside help including some one from Obsidian who worked on New Vegas so hopefully that helps (Though I am sad they took him away from Obsidian in case Obsidian ever gets another chance at Fallout).

Don't see that as being generic..at all. Either way most best works are not anything new just well executed. Having good writers is not meaningless, the story in KZ sucked due to writing. You can;t judge Horizon based on them hiring good writers, but you also can't judge Horizon because they made killzone. New ip, new writers, can't have it both ways., Time will tell.
