Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

For fellow Asus STRIX waiters, just reposting for the new page that they tweeted "7 to 10 days from now," i.e. June 17th.

Don't think so for any of those. The FTW is confirmed out to reviewers, but no idea on reviews. There's a shady youtube vid of strix benchmarks with no shot of the actual card. Nothing on the Zotac at all. Jaytwocents' MSI Gaming X review goes up tomorrow.

There's one German review of the Strix in the OP, couple of Youtube reviews/previews but also not in English. Another review of the Strix in Chinese here: http://diy.pconline.com.cn/795/7950003.html. With google Chrome translating websites, you can dig some useful data out of those reviews.

It's not perfect but at least there's some info on the Strix out there. Seems like a good card unless you want really quiet. Can't find anything useful on FTW/Zotac though.

Thanks, I forgot about those translated reviews. Definitely nothing on FTW, but Freeman said they've been sent to reviewers.

That just seems to be like the best deal overall for these cards at launch.

Well if it's $611 at Newegg, like Amazon, and you manage to get the free mouse, I'd say it's pretty awesome. For some reason I can't pull the trigger on it tho. I think I'll wait on the MSI Gaming X, it just looks like a better built card.

MSI is same cost as FE in Europe and doesn't overclock better.

I'm gonna try. That's just a heck of a deal even though I don't need the mouse.

edit: Which mouse is that again? I might just give it to my cousin when I visit.

Im hoping that price is out of whack like some of the European prices. If it is $699, I will most certainly pass on it. Although the cooling is a lot better than the FE.

I'd just Ebay the mouse and offset the cost further. I'd watch Nowinstock.net too. The comments section is good with info, and sometimes people post sales before the website refreshes. I've gotten a few preorders that way.

so im looking to get the 1080 and the only one i can find online that delivers to me is the ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition for 900 CAD. Can you guys help out and explain the diff between asus , evga , MSI etc....

for the Founders Edition cards there are no differences...those are all the same reference cards just sold by different partners

I'd check clock speeds and cooling systems. See if you can find which one overclocks best. I'm not into overclocking that much anymore so the Gigabyte tomorrow is the one I want.

^What he said. That.

So if I bought a G1, or even reference, would the performance of games be considerably (let's say 5 fps difference) worse than their bigger brothers (Xtreme, FTW, Strix)? I'd rather save some money and time by getting a G1 if it's not going to make much of a difference.

I noticed the other day when I checked on my cell phone that it had the G1 listed at $650. The desktop site only says coming soon. Maybe it was a placeholder.

It's all straight percentages. If one card is clocked 10% higher than another then you will get 10% more FPS more or less. So if you get a 60 fps ave, someone with a 10% higher clock is getting 66 fps ave. 30 fps plus 10% is 33 fps and so on.

here are the specs...

8 GB 256-bit GDDR5X
Virtual Reality Ready
4K Gaming
1 x Dual-link DVI-I, 3 x DisplayPort (version 1.4), 1 x HDMI
Boost Clock 1733 MHz

Not too good with specs as im not that much into the tech side of it....so i be patient and buy a non founders edition? will it make a big difference?

I really think it depends. If you want to wait and see, wait and see. But I wouldn't unless you wait for a 1080ti which isn't going to be soon that I know of.

Any of them should be fine.

Well the FE can OC to ~2050-2100, so theoretically you can do the same with the G1 with better cooling. So far, besides the Galax HOF (2200), which it isn't clear if it'll ship that way, no one has really eclipsed that on air cooling. So you'll be all set and likely can clock just the same as all the rest.

Source on Galax HOF hitting 2200?

Edit: I found it. No way the card ships that way.

Does anyone know a time frame of when stuff like the Gigabyte G1 goes in stock on newegg's website or it is just a guessing game from midnight on?

Nvidia hates Canada, so dont expect to get anything but Founders edition cards for at least another week if not more.

And there's no difference between the different founders cards. They're all literally exactly the same except for the packaging.

He was using normal SLI bridges as well, curious to see if the HB SLI bridge would increase performance
What's up with that anyway? I haven't seen it for sale anywhere and it certainly isn't as complex of a product as the cards themselves to warrant "delays"? Kinda expected these to be available at launch.

think the EVGA guy said mid June...so soon-ish

I have 2 1080s coming friday so Id like the HB bridge now as well but well have to wait.

Also read a 1080sli review today that stated current geforce drivers dont have true support for sli 1080s right now? Is that the case? Seems weird.

Well they are also updating drivers with a proper fan profile, so it's not too weird, lol.

Well that's pretty simple lol. At factory OC settings, the Strix looks to be about a 4% jump from the G1. Definitely not worth the wait/price for me.

The Strix is more for people looking to overclock. The hope is that they hit the silicon lottery and the card has the headroom to push it.

Nice. The guy is using a standard SLI bridge. I really want to see the difference with HB Bridge. One more week...

Yeah, it's pretty stupid to release cards, but no bridges for half a month. It doesn't look like it's hard to manufacture.

lol I had one in my cart but didn't have my phone near me for my 2FA to get my password manager up. I'm not sure I even wanted the Gigabyte version anyways.. just cheaper than the FTW and without tax from Amazon.

Anyone use SLI FTW (or similar) cards in past years? Thinking about picking up a couple of them rather than reference (due to the tax).

I broke down and ordered a Gigabyte founders edition then the Gigabyte gaming card went up 15 mins later. What a day...

So should I get a GTX 1080? Or should I get a GTX1070 and a GTX 1270 in 2 years? Don't have too much of a need for what a 1080 can do for me today but I bet in a couple years I will. I imagine XX70 series card in a couple years will meet GTX 1080 performance, no?

Depends, what card do you have now? and what kind of resolution/fps do you want to run things on?

If you don't have much need for a new card, then simply wait.
