Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

Depends, what card do you have now? and what kind of resolution/fps do you want to run things on?

If you don't have much need for a new card, then simply wait.

Running an R9 270x currently. Been waiting to upgrade to an nvidia card for a while to get some of their features like Gamestream. I have a 4k TV but will opt for 1080p120 as a baseline spec. I imagine GTX 1070 @ 1080p120 is a better performer than GTX 1080 @ 4k60, but maybe I'm wrong.

On one hand, I'm bummed that Amazon will evidently not be shipping cards on the 7th... but on the other, saving ~USD$40 (more still if you factor in Newegg's higher international shipping costs) is nothing to sneeze at.

Need supply to catch up so price gouging can stop.

I think you'll find that $720 is the RRP given the seller/store in question is Newegg. Unless Newegg has some sort of history of gouging?

I think Im just going to wait for this or the 1070 to be on sale with a game. Those prices are crazy.

considering the card it's supposed to be competing with (G1...that has better clocks) is $70 cheaper...yeah, kinda crazy

Not giving me great hope for what the partner 1070s will be priced at

I wonder how many of these pre-orders are just shitheads who will try to sell them on Ebay or elsewhere. I'm still thinking about holding off until the Fall, they'll definitely be in stock, maybe a revision or two, people will have experience and there will probably be some game bundles.

Anyway, you think NVIDIA is going to go back to releasing a new series of cards every ~12 months or you think they'll stick to ~18 months? I'm leaning towards the latter unless AMD actually starts competing again. I'm assuming the 1100 series could make it out in the Fall next year

Mafia 3 will likely be the first bundle. Nvidia and 2K partnered up in the past to promote Borderlands 2, Borderlands TPS and, more to the point, Mafia 2.

If that ends up being the case I'll definitely be on board for a 1070 since I'm kind of looking forward to Mafia 3.

This is fucking bullshit, it was supposed to be up at 6 am PST tomorrow, I was at work and didn't even have a chance, fuck you Newegg

Are you talking about the MSI? It's up but I don't think it was even for sale yet. It could go on sale at 6:00 am still.

EDIT: ah, seems you're talking about the G1.

The 1080 FTW clock speeds were released on EVGA's website. People are shitting on them on other forums for being a small upgrade of the SC version. Well, isn't the 1080 locked to 2.1 MHz due to voltage/chip size? I don't know why the heck did they increase the power pins unless they account for people unlocking the BIOS.

To sell cards to people who don't know any better. Unlocking the voltage via BIOS mod and overvolting a 16nm chip is not a good idea.

I can't believe I managed to get a G1 off of Newegg. I was practicing parallel parking at the dmv and heard my email notification go off, stopped the car in anticipation, saw the email was from nowinstock, and ordered it faster than I've ordered anything before. Hopefully I made a good choice.

People seem to finally be conceding that the 1080 Pascal is voltage limited, and this makes every card about the same. So the big differentiator is how effectively the cards can dump the heat to prevent throttling. Once you can control the thermals they all seem to max out in about the same ballpark.

I don't know why people are getting upset over default clocks. Buy card for overclocking, piss and moan about the stock clocks... LOL

Maybe they all do cap at the same range. Maybe a new BIOS gets released that helps.. We'll see.

Nvidia is clearly pushing the limits on the chip already to get that jump over 980Ti
Will be fun and sad to read when people burn their €800 chips

How does a 980Ti clock for clock compare to the 1080? Seems like the performance jump is only there due to very high clocks. Hopefully 2.1Ghz is common on Non-FE cards if temps are adequate.

Also how do the triple fan GPUs work with a small PCI-E card taking up the second slot? I only have an SLI Micro-ATX motherboard and have a Hauppauge TV Tuner in the second slot currently. Doesn't seem to affect my 980 Ti Lightning temps too much if at all, though I haven't tested with it out.

Does seem that way. Not much shown benefit for a two 8 pin card vs one 8 pin.

Might have to look into the evga hybrid.

Pascal is mostly a die shrink, so it's to be expected that they are similar clock for clock. I would imagine that 2.1 is common on FE as well.

Guys, real talk, the EVGA FTW is totally not worth it. All of you who pre-ordered from B&H should totally save some money by canceling your pre-orders and going with something else.

do we even know how much it would be period?
I'm sure they trying to make an extra $20-30 .......Not about to cry bloody murder over that lol

Nope im just guessing but i really doubt MSI is going to price it that high compared to the competition.

Just read on Gamersnexus that the Gigabyte Xtreme will be priced at $670-$680. I might just wait for that one.

I agree. Anyone that preordered the FTW from EVGA or Amazon should also cancel. The reference PCB + ACX3 cooler is a much better buy, as is the SC model.

It's kinda funny how the FTW is apparently the "cheapest" high end partner card in euro prices (769). G1 is 785, MSI Gaming X is 815, Strix seems to be the same. Unless Amazon.de is price gouging or put up placeholder prices (ordering isn't possible as of now).

EVGA cards are most likely the only ones that are reasonably priced

MSI X has dropped about €60 since it was originally listed... and has yet to launch
I might actually pick up that one instead of the EVGA reference board with ACX 3

I don't know anymore, waiting for these cards has been an emotional roller coaster.

Real talk.

I have an FE now, and I plan to go 1080 SLI.

The custom PCBs look like a waste of money to me right now. Vegas money says that more power, etc is meaningless. If I were starting from scratch, I'd buy 2 of the EVGA reference PCB+ACX3 cooler. That's the best bet if money matters.

I really don't know what to do...

I have 980 Ti Gigabyte G1 and I don't see many reasons to move to 1080, except one:

the noise.

I hate the fan noise of this card.

This is what I heard when i play:

980 TI GIGABYTE FAN NOISE.

And with The Witcher 3 is even louder.

Probably, if I'm lucky I could buy a 1080 w/o this "problem".

Any suggestion?
