Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

Damn, they sure do not last long at all, regardless of time of day.

Well, this one actually comes with the promised free mouse, so they actually did something right for a change. Well, sort of. They ended up selling cards on 6/6 and 6/8 instead of the promised 6/7. Hey, a day before or after is within the margin of error, right? LMAO

Hey, it lasted 7 whole minutes this time! That's an eternity these days!

I didn't realise the 1080 has a few lesser features over the 980 Ti. Like CUDA cores. How likely is that to impact performance.

The EVGA Gaming ACX 3.0 and the Gainward GeForce GTX 1080 Phoenix both just showed up in stock in Austria, both for 729€.

It really sucks that there don't appear to be reviews of either one yet.

Well, obviously it impacts performance. If it had as many "cores" (and ROPs etc) as a 980ti and everything else was equal then it would be ~30-40% faster than it rather than 20-30% faster.

This is pretty much my thinking. Might just wait for the eventual 1080 Ti. There's gonna be one. I'm sure of that.

Oh sure. The 1080 is a little chip - they could double the size for a 1080ti but probably won't. But i'd think 50% more would be possible. I suppose it depends how quickly 16nm matures and yields improve, and whether nvidia want to trickle die size increases out over a few generations.

My 1080 is gets really loud in more demanding games.

Way louder than my entire PC.

Is that normal?

EDIT: Temps look OK from what I can tell. FE btw.

Do you really think so?

We're all looking at the same benchmarks in the FE reviews in the OP, right?

Plenty of games getting well over 30 fps (more often 40+ or 50+) at max settings and 4K resolution.

And so my wait for the 1080 Ti begins.

2000 seems to be what you should realistically hope for in games that arent power hogs. In those titles you will probably throttle down to high 1800s. Custom boards with more power headroom can hold 2000ish if you get a good sample

Did anyone do comprehensive benchmarks including comparisons with Titan X/980 Ti using an overclocked 1080 like the bolded?

maxwell overclocks better so when you oc both gpus the margin shrinks.

http://www.pcgameshardware.de/Nvidi...8/Specials/Benchmark-Test-Video-1195464/2/#a2

titan x at 1500/8400 benched against a stock 1080. they also include the fastest factory oc 980ti which runs at 1420/7100

http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/nvidia_geforcegtx_1080_overclocking/

suite of benches with various cards oced. clocks are listed on the first page. their 1080 overclock is top range and their 980ti overclock is strictly average.

dont know of any other reviews that benched with overclocks of the 980ti/titan x cards. if all you are looking for is overclocked 1080 results v stock titanx/980ti almost every review has that covered.

That can't be right!

Ditto!

EDIT:
Just check it out on Youtube!
Not the FE or even the 1070 but I would have thought it had the grunt to at least drive these at at least 30fps.

the only games on that list > 30 are bf4, battlefront, black ops 3 and rainbow six. all games you pretty much need 60 fps. the games are designed around it.

bf4 - that performance is bad and is probably a big reason why hes so bad at the game. siege of shanghai is also close to a best case performance scenario outside of metro/locker. other maps perform much worse. hes also not even playing 64p conquest. performance takes another hit irregardless of map with all the extra action vehicles and higher player counts bring.

TR - not even close to maxed out and his performance is still iffy despite the video taking part in the highest performing part of the game. performance drops off a cliff once you get to the meat of the game(hub worlds)

gta v - settings/fps not even shown. ign editors are complete idiots tho and i doubt they would even know how to max the game out if they wanted to

crysis 3 - not even using any aa and hes still dropping below 30 fps in one of the least demanding parts of the game with no action on screen

QB - not maxed and still constantly dropping below 30 fps

the division - not maxed out and hovering mostly in the low to mid 20s.

witcher 3 - not maxed, no hairworks

unity - not maxed, again no aa. barely holding 30 fps and hes not even in paris yet

syndicate - video poster notes between 15 and 30 fps and thats with 2xaa, not even 4x. not even close to playable

dragon age - not maxed

rainbow six - no settings or framerate but a 1080 is not faster than titan x sli when sli works

black ops 3 - titan x sli here again and i was referring to single player

Tbh, I don't think that it's a problem to get any of these games even to 60 fps in 4K on a GTX1080 by lowering some settings. It's definitely not a case of "unplayable", it's just that these games can be unplayable on high/ultra/max settings.

My 2 1080s come today. Finally can finish off my broadwell e build. Took a home office day!

I hate when ups tracking just says "arriving by 8pm".

These HB sli bridges need to be available asap

Yes

It's a blower cooler those are VERY loud

In a few weeks there'll probably be seperate aftermarket coolers for sale for pascal (something like arctic accelero or a mono plus) that you can replace the shitty blower with.

Having second thoughts. My current monitor IPS, 1080p, 60Hz 27" has this annoying issue with the capacitive buttons where they trigger themselves. Causing the monitor to turn itself on and off and display the menu.

Ideally I want to spend at max £700, so is it worth me picking up a 1080 and just dealing with the monitor issue. Or stepping down and picking up a 1070 and a new monitor, preferably 1440p?

My gtx 970 sli setup has run my 1440p 144hz gsync monitor just fine. But that could be gsync at work. So id think your fine with a 1070 especially with gsync. That being said i have 2 1080s coming but Im an impulsive crazy person. I think 1070 is a good card for 1440p at this point

Contacted Gigabyte on facebook and asked about Amazon orders
"Unfortunately, I don't have an exact date for you but I'm expect to see it release towards the end of the week.
Early next week at the LATEST."

This is so stupid. I'm going out of state starting Saturday night and will be gone until the following week. I hope I can get it by Friday at least. If not, I guess I'll just ship to where I'm staying and stare at the box for a week.

Asus 1080 Strix is back for preorder on amazon UK for £660. God damn I want one but the 1070 bench's make me think I don't need it now since I play at 1440p.

I really don't know what to do...

I have 980 Ti Gigabyte G1 and I don't see many reasons to move to 1080, except one:

the noise.

I hate the fan noise of this card.

This is what I heard when i play:

980 TI GIGABYTE FAN NOISE.

And with The Witcher 3 is even louder.

Probably, if I'm lucky I could buy a 1080 w/o this "problem".

Any suggestion?
Set up a custom fan profile such that it runs a bit hotter but quieter.
