May 2016 NPD (U.S. Hardware) Predictions - Closes June 7th

Wow UC4 must have sold like shit the rest of the month after the huge opening.

But we don't know the US first week sales number, do we?

Remember that the 2.3(?) million included digital copies.

Why?

You gotta have a smiley at the end. I have no idea how you're feeling right now otherwise.

I know i'm going to repeat what i said before, but imo, in my opinion PS4 over 200K in the Uncharted month is not impressive. Is good, sure, but not that good, at least for me.

Sounds like a better than average May. Should be good for Sony. Uncharted sold great, so no reason to worry about it not hitting a million in retail alone.

Yeah, guys, digital sales exist, you know. Not 9:1 proportions, though, of course :P

Ok so according to a Kotaku article on why Lionhead was closed down we have a whole bunch of new info on how MS properties are performing versus expectations. Pertinent quotes below

Holy shit at 2x the Win 10 installs despite their shady rollout practices. Apparently they also expected at least 2x the number of XB1s to be sold at this point.

Ok Halo 5 I get but Minecraft?!?! How the hell is Minecraft performing less than projected? What on earth were their projections just wow.

Lots more info here.

Halo 5 sold 5M in 3 months. So I wouldn't call that a miss.

Uncharted never had or will be a huge franchise, even for a console exclusive and that's alright because none of them were great. TLOU might have sold more than any UC game and that's just fine n' dandy with me.

LOL....what? UC is a big franchise has been for 2 iterations. 2.7 million in 1 week = not big apparently. Uc3 is around 10 mill at this point. The sales numbers prove your post is out to lunch. UC is bigger outside the US.

It's good to have high expectations. Like a finger pointing to the moon. Don't concentrate on the finger or you will miss all the heavenly glory.

Well with 2.7 Million sold globally in the first week and at last 30% sold in USA based on past Uncharted games that would mean first week was 800-900K. It would mean the 2 weeks were under 100K or so. Even in the UK uncharted sales dipped drastically after the first week.

Where did you get that 5 million number from? It definitely wasn't Microsoft.

I call 2.7 million in the first week a huge franchise. You are making yourself look silly.

Isn't the franchise over 30 million sold and counting?

Sounds big to me

That linked person's twitter account is speculating that maybe Sony isn't saying anything in order to not "box themselves in with Neo messaging"...

Any ideas what that would mean?

Would Sony's Neo message be hindered by saying they have the most sales that month in NPD?

Hmm.... Or maybe it's just that they're not getting much milage out of saying they won NPD anymore, so why do it? Certainly they're not getting many headlines anymore from winning since they're expected to win every month, so they're started to refuse to comment now in case there's a month that MS wins to reduce the impact of it?

I'm just not sure why they wouldn't say anything at all. It's weird.

I guess any articles churned up by a press release are likely to be spiced up with Neo talk, so they might want to keep it to a minimum.

Uncharted 4 is under 1 million? That's not too great of a performance really. I mean it's still a huge exclusive and I'm sure nicely profitable but yeah for having the whole month that's just kinda alright

Again, that number included digital sales. If you take out, let's say 25% of digital copies you get ~2 million.

And 30% of this is "only" 600K.

Uncharted never had or will be a huge franchise, even for a console exclusive and that's alright because none of them were great. TLOU might have sold more than any UC game and that's just fine n' dandy with me.

Okey man.
