Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

Bad news if you bought the Gigabyte G1 like I did from Amazon. I just had a chat with them and if this is true, what a sucky bummer:

Amazon: No unfortunately we won't be able to ship it for a while. if i change this to expedite the system gives me a date in July :S we are so very sorry about it
Me: Oh wow. Is it shipping this month at least?
Amazon: It won't be there this month

I bought two. Maybe this will be the reason I need to hold out for the Extreme Gaming version at the end of the month.

Gigabyte already said Amazon would begin shipping them out late this week or early next week at the latest.

is it worth getting a 1080 if I only have a 2500k? My 2500k is OC's to 4.4ghz just wondering if I would be better to upgrade my mobo, ram (from 8GB to 16GB) and CPU to a 6600k. I currently have a 970 if that matters.

Upgrading from one i5 to another is a waste. Just get the 1080 and then look for a used 2600K or 3770K later if you think your CPU is holding back after you get it.

Fuck. I was hoping to get the 1070 G1 Gaming, but if the 1080 is this bad I doubt the 1070 will be any better...

STRIX thirst is real on Newegg. Keep seeing it pop up on Nowinstock, but not actually be available on the site. They can't keep up.

Well, just got white lines all over my computer screen after it blue screened saying there was a memory problem, so I think the VRAM in my GTX 580 finally died. I was going to try hold out for the 1080Ti, but it looks like my hand is forced early.

I'm weighing between just grabbing the 1080, or grabbing an older model card and waiting to see when HBM2 cards are going to come out.

The problem is that there is a delay of up to 60 seconds for it to appear on NIS, and even longer if you rely on text alerts. Right now it's just canceled orders being relisted a few at a time, so they'll be long gone before you can respond to NIS alerts.

I wouldn't count on HBM2 Pascal cards.

So I ordered the EVGA 1080 ACX 3.0 from Amazon on 05/31 with 1-day shipping . On Tuesday, EVGA dude told me they'd ship before the weekend. It's Thursday now. There's a singular day left. Am I getting my GPU or not? I want to build my first desktop during my the E3 conferences watchparty my friends and I are doing =[.

Why is it apparently not a thing to only put stock up when there's ACTUAL stock? It's not like they get my money before it ships.

Amazon sure has been frustrating during this whole ordeal. Any idea why the partners seem to snub them with inventory? Newegg has been getting cards left and right for days, but I don't believe Amazon has received a single non-FE card.

Amazon only recently started to stock pc hardware.

If you would go back 5years ago, there was literary no computer parts on Amazon. Newegg was and still is major player when it comes to PC hardware in us. No doubt they are getting dibs on all new hardware.

So i learned something. Dont use a single pci e cable to power two 1080s. Psu doesnt like that! After a lot of issues and PC wanting to explode i realized that.

Some dude on reddit told me it would be fine. Not the case! All good now

Is that right? I bought everything for my previous fresh build from Amazon, but that was 2011, so I suppose it checks out. I was in Japan for my build before that though, in 2008, and I bought a lot of parts from Amazon then, too. I guess Amazon Japan and Amazon US aren't the same, though.

Of course Newegg going to take a little extra on top if they can, and people are going to buy them instantly anyways.

I'm more surprised so many people are willing to buy expensive stuff from ASUS. I don't buy anything they make unless I can afford to throw it away if it breaks.

Whelp, the ASUS Strix popped up on Newegg again for a fraction of a second before erroring out in shopping cart a few times, then it was gone again. It's like a unicorn or bigfoot. You'll swear you saw something, but no one will believe you.

Yeah, after the initial sellout a few will trickle back in-stock as orders get canceled, declined, etc.

I did this song and dance for about 40 minutes with the MSI card until I finally got all the way through checkout and claimed one. Stick with it. Using the Chrome plugin Auto Refresh Plus and having it alert me when it lost the text "OUT OF STOCK" did it for me.

Mirror's Edge is Frostbite isn't it? I wonder how Battlefield 1 will fare on the 1080.

Anybody have benchmarks of BF4 and Star Wars Battlefront on 1080, come to think of it?

Glad I sold my 980Ti.

Btw is Mirror's Edge an AMD game?

Yeah, Frostbite is a strongly AMD favoring engine. You can see the Fury X beating the 980 Ti and almost catching the 1070 right on that graph. DICE and AMD are super buddy pals, there were only a few games which ever supported Mantle and all of them were Frostbite titles.

didn't realize those images would be that big...quoted them

While I am glad I was able to get a founder's edition 1080 (would've had a system with no vid card and broken onboard video otherwise), I'm glad I went with EVGA for mine, since it looks like I can use their Step-Up program to, well, step down to one of the cheaper non-founders 1080s, likely the classified or an OC version once they are available. Will only end up costing me a little extra in the end, small price to pay to be able to keep using my system during med school exam studying (yea, definitely needed a 1080 for that).
