They were trying too hard to be cool in the trailer.

It's like they try to use every trendy word they could find in the urban dictionary and make it work. It just shows how out of touch Nintendo really is with kids or Teens these days.

Coming from someone who used to talk a lot like that back in high school it's almost embarrassing to actually hear in in that trailer. The targeted demographic isn't going to want to play this kind of game. Yes the kids in the game wear trendy and fashionable clothes in the game and they themselves are very much in-touch with social media and pop culture...however...the game is set in "Japan". Which completely destroys the logic Nintendo was trying to use here.

Unless they were already a fan of Asian pop music or fashion tends, this game is most likely not going to appeal to young teens over here in the states because it's not a 1 to 1 equivalent. There is just a huge different in style, music and ultimately Culture. I'm not saying it's impossible for a Teen here to enjoy this game, no I'm saying that at all...but the likelihood of a Teen owning a Wii U and willing to pick this game up on a whim "just because" seems very low.

I want Nintendo to do interesting project like this in the future, hell...it would be cool if this got it's own franchise but I can't see that happening if they don't know who is actually going to buy this game vs who they want to market this game to.

Looking at this trailer, I think they are actually trying to target a younger audience with this game. Might explain some things.
Nintendo is doing everything humanly possible to turn me off from this game. The only other thing they could do that they haven't already, is make the game a digital-only title. Other than that, they've pretty much checked all of the boxes. :/

Wow, all this overreaction.
Yeah it's silly, but it does a decent job explaining the gameplay.

I'm not sure if it's been posted or not, but here's a comparison between the JP and NA version of the gravure/idol dungeon (story segment). Some small spoilers, but nothing too extreme. The original Japanese version plays first, then the North American version.

So much impact is lost, and the costume of the NA version looks hideous (much too busy). Not the same feel at all. They even changed one of her poses so she's no longer leaning forward (I guess NoA thought that was too seductive), so they replaced it with a horrible "arms formed in an X!" one. You can see the difference at 1:25 (JP ver.) and 3:14 (NA ver.). You can also see it some more when the photographer is circling Tsubasa, taking pictures.

Ugh.

Edit: Also, I'm really confused as to why the changed the position of Maiko on the couch. In the NA version, it almost looks like she's..."servicing" the photographer when everyone walks in. NoA and your crazy edits.

All the cool kids like JRPGs now, right?
Marketing probably thought it was a good idea after saying this...
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #Fire Emblem is the perfect starting point for eager gamers to jump into the world of the Japanese Role-Playing Game genre.

Yeah, all of that has been posted and discussed extensively already. This thread is pretty long, after all.
Sorry, I must have missed that. I know the changes have been discussed, but I wasn't sure a video had been posted. Given the date of the video upload, I was guessing it already had been, but I posted it again just in case someone over-looked it.

My apologies.

Some of us even prefer the new costumes! :P

Check it, check it, whiggity whiggty on da decks, I'm Bates, DJ Master. That's right, DJ Master Ba…anyway…enough about me, let me lay it down to you G tings about why the Big N maybe giving time to da young youth of today with that infomercial. You know who uses the Tube of You, I'll tell ya, it be da kids, ya get me? And ya know what they do, they get the word of mouth and spread it like butter, you with me here? You old foggies probably don't get it, but da truth is, you already know about this hashtag FE biz so Nintendo don't need to tell you about it again. You've already sent them your mullah in a sealed envelope, they know they got that sale. So instead they appeal to them young netizens with dope dialogue and gnarly gameplay who don't know yo Persona SMTV Live spinoff. Word.

Felt like POPGaf invaded that vid.

Still, the gameplay looks so damn solid. I'm so hyped.

I'm impressed they worked the Weapon Triangle in. I thought the only Fire Emblem elements would be the Performas being based on FE characters.

If only they were doing that.

But to be completely fair, the market for this game isn't big anyway so it doesn't matter what they do.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty funny.

Not sure how a trailer would turn you off a game if you already have problems with its localization.

Sounds to me like people trying to justify their "boycott" without coming off as "I'm salty there's less boobs"
Even though hating this trailer is just as silly...

Hate would be a strong word but I just found the voiceover in the trailer to be annoying and obnoxious to listen to more than anything else. It doesn't matter how well the trailer is at explaining the gameplay if the guy explaining it is grating to listen to.

To be fair.....this trailer is the most egregious version of
giphy.gif

I've seen in some time in gaming. I'm glad they forgone dubbing this game after seeing that trailer. The youtube commenters speak for themselves though.

I guess the trailer was "ok". Anyone older and more interested probably already know what the game is. That said, I don't know how effective the trailer is when it seems like people like Pewdiepie are more what's "in" these days.

Also I noticed they kept the Swimsuit for the Amrita Shower ad? This whole thing is slipshod as hell.

I wonder if that one poster is accurate when the editing was being done in Japan during development, but then once it did as poorly as it did, they just went 'Screw it!' and stopped working further on it.

I missed that, got a link?
Would be both ridiculously sad and funny at the same time.

I doubt it. They knew the titles' projected performance long, long before launch. Its not like it was magically going to explode at launch, and they've actually kept with the fan support after the fact which they could have cut back on as well.

Did they forget to change Tsubasa's carnage outfit?

Could be a recognizability thing. Like, the Carnage outfits are definitely the most recognizable outfits for the characters, so maybe modifying those would become tricky later on for marketing or legacy purposes? Then again, because that's her most recognizable outfit, that's the one that people will see the most of and it has the dreaded cleavage, so... it kind of makes the removal of it for other outfits weird.

It's freaking crazy, by the way, that it wasn't enough to hide the cleavage, but that parts of her arm had to be changed as well. Gotta hide the armpits.

Really? Changing that even after aging her up?

Who's responsible for the localization? Why the overreaction to skin? Is there someone high-up at Treehouse that's a total prude?
