So there's a targeted mass killing of gay people as the result of religious beliefs, and the entire thread is about American gun control? Are you fucking kidding me?

But sure, let's just skip over the cesspool of ideologies that are infecting people via religious outlets (you know, the root of the problem), and just talk about something that we can all pretty much agree on anyways. Guns are bad! *high five*

How the fuck has homophobia not even entered the discussion? smh

That's literally the opposite of what domestic terrorism is supposed to mean though.

Yeah, seems like a change from what we used to believe the term meant.

I guess they're just using terror to link it to extreme Islamic ideology. I think pure "terrorism" is something they believe is committed by externally trained extremists, as compared to a US citizen who has been influenced online or via contact.

Some reporter just mentioned the FBI is defining these types of attacks as "domestic terror" to denote there is some type of international terrorist influence involved. Think of the San Bernadino shootings and foreign influence, I think that's what they're aiming for now.

it is hard to label this workplace violence.

Homophobia, racism, etc. exist in all of Europe too and we don't get a mass shooting a day.

The sick thing about this tragedy is that it's going to be used by the right to try to ban and restrict muslims within the US.

Not any more gross than turning their tragedies into a debate about gun control. If anything people probably want more guns as a result.

Obessions. People on both sides, it's odd. You have people who are obsessed with guns who own them, and also people who hate guns but yet are obsessed with them in a different way.

Those ideologies are terrible, but guns sure are an easy way for people with those ideologies to do terrible things.

25!? Geez.
I mean, I guess a nightclub would be a dark, crowded, loud place.

Damn.

Yeah, it's actually rather surprising you don't hear about this kind of thing more often.

Dark room full of a bunch of people...if a nutter wanted to kill a bunch of people a nightclub seems like an easy target.

Yes, and I regularly see news of a single person killing several + injuring even more armed with a kitchen knife. How would all these mass shootings (more than 1 a day in your beautiful country) happen if not for the easy access to guns ?
60% of murders in the USA involve firearms, you mean to tell me that if guns were banned it wouldn't change anything ? Bullshit.
I'm not American and refer to my list of nations with gun ownership to homicide ratios.

On-topic: Really awful, it reminds more and more of bataclan. Condolences to the families.

Possibly because the only definite cause right now was a lot of bullets.

I didn't mean that as a defense of American gun laws, or guns in general. I actually hate guns. I just don't understand the direction of the discussion. The forest for the fucking trees, people.

Nope, can't bring up those points. He's even a registered democrat. http://voters.findthedata.com/l/28019600/Omar-Mir-Seddique-Mateen

Holy shit this is insane and in my home town. Just got a txt from a co-worker that she was there last night but left around 1am before this shit went down. Holy fuck this is terrible.

2) The US banned Kinder Eggs, and can fine you $5000 for bringing one across the border, because a few useless children choked to death on them.

But why are Kinder eggs banned? The U.S. law against the chocolate egg actually dates back to 1938. At that time, the country’s Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act banned all candies embedded with “non-nutritive objects,” such as toys. So, when Kinder eggs began to be manufactured in the '70s by Italian company Ferrero, they fell under this law and were made illegal in the U.S.

No child in the US ever choked on a Kinder Egg, they never had a chance to. The kids that did choke on Kinder Egg toys were in the UK and France.

Also, I don't think It's really nice to call those children's lives "useless".

Worst mass shooting in the U.S. ever then?

RIP to all of the victims. I hope the people that are in the hospital are able to pull through.

Hadn't been following this story, didn't realize it was nearly this bad but the news just cut in with the update on the death toll. RIP and I'm just stunned. One is too many but fifty? Not even sure how to process it.

Terrorism! Hate crime! No the problem is access to guns.

No fucking way, this is horrible :( How can a single person do that kind of numbers?

Because in many states, including Florida, a single person can walk into a gun store and buy a gun designed to do just that with practically zero checks.

Just had the alert pop up that the dead toll is up to 50.

Goosebumps. I don't live anywhere near the US but this is absolutely heartbreaking. R.I.P.
