Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

Ha I did actually see that! Posting when you've just woken! :/

Very good temps with that card.

I'm getting about the same temps and it's pretty quiet. I can hear the fans through my case, but the rest of my setup is almost literally silent so in many setups with noisier coolers or case fans it probably wouldn't add anything.

put my g1 to +120 +400, gives me 2114 core, 10800 memory, ran gta v at 4k60 for an hour with no issues, core bounced around 2050-2114, temp never went above 68c on stock fan curve

Nice. Not overclocked mine yet but good to know

so, to the lucky ones that have gotten their 1080's (FE or otherwise), how are the idle clocks when using multi-monitor? I know older cards at least have issues with idle clocks when using multi-monitor setup, so how are these working with it?

Man Watch Dogs+WorseMod at 4k 60fps is amazing on this thing.

Anybody else getting some coil whine on the G1? It's mainly happening in menus where fraps says the game is at like 300 fps.

Well you should check the fan speed levels at that point, msi afterburner can do that.

You can even cap the fps with it

That seems "normal" under those circumstances. Cap the framerate, problem solved. No reason to run that high if your monitor can't push it.

I'd probably go for a G1 if I knew I'd get one, but as no one seems to know any numbers in regard to how many they'll be getting in stock, kinda no point in changing up my preorders, apparently I'm top of the list for the FTW, and I've got a stock ACX order from Scan too, apparently both will ship Friday, but I bet 1 or both won't. We'll see, but I can always refuse one and not sign if they both ship.

I still have my amazon G1 preorder too just in case.

are you asking either or? or...what are you trying to do, exactly?

sorry, if that was confusing i got 1440p monitor but about to buy a 4k monitor and I have a htc vive. I just wanna make sure everything will run on the Asus Strix 1080. So basically i would have dual monitor and a htc vive.

The base amount of power supplied is different. One of the more interesting differences in these AIB cards. Actual power limit on the the MSI is much higher than the FE, even though the sliders look the same.

I saw a review which showed this a few days ago but now I can't find it to save my life. My Google Fu is failing me.

I was getting driver resets on Heaven with +150, had to back it down to +120 to make it not do that. Holding a mostly steady 2050, I'm seeing a second of two of 2038 and 2025 every now and then.

Someone on the Nvidia subreddit tested the FE and MSI and confirmed as much.

well the Vive will make any game window on the monitor default to like 1024x768. the desktop itself will function as normally, however. I wouldn't expect to run some game at 4k on the monitor and get normal performance on the Vive.

Coil whine has nothing to do with fans. It's capacitor squeal that happens when frame rates are unlocked/get up into high numbers. The best solution (aside from getting a high-end AIB card with better components) is to use RivaTuner or something similar to limit your framerate to a reasonable number.

One of the Unigine's. Firestrike will have periods between tests that'll give the card a chance to cool down. With the unigine benchmarks you can just loop them for a while to get an idea of the max temps and overall stability after hours under load.

The Heaven benchmark doesn't seem to do much for mine in terms of heat. It's gaming, namely Doom, that lights this thing up. I get the same temps as everyone else in these benchs, but when I start playing Doom for over an hour, my temps start creeping to the 80s.

Guess need to diagnose my airflow issue. Thanks.

Keep in mind my case is the Cooler Master HAF 932, I also probably have more airflow than the average case.

If you splash out the $11 + fees for 3DMark, you can set it to a continuous loop of one Fire Strike test that will heat you up real good. 3DMark is a much more stressful benchmark than Heaven and you'll find your max clocks much faster.

Alternatively, for free you can download FFXIV Heavensward benchmark which gets your GPU hotter than anything else you can use basically, it does have loading times between segments but not even real games can make the GPU hotter. It's by far the best pure GPU stability test I know of.

Didn't know this stuff. Thanks.

Are there any reviews for the FTW yet or any reviews talking about custom bios?
Not that I'm aware of to both.
FTWs are in reviewer hands since ~yesterday, nothing in regards to BIOS modding yet afaik (apart from being able to dump and flash vendor ones)

MSI GeForce GTX 1080 GAMING X is in stock at my local Microcenter - $759.99
Too bad it won't fit in my Bitfenix Prodigy

Why not? I have a gigabyte g1 in mine. Length should be ok - it's less than 300mm, specs say it is a dual slot (2.5 or more would be tricky withe closeness of the side panel). The MSI does look like a tall card, but the prodigy is a tall case

Short but somewhat insightful FTW update: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=29616718&postcount=1460

Stock in EU apparently going to their big partners first (which hopefully translates to OCUK in the UK and Caseking in Germany), while in US most goes to their own store due to demand.

which means 1 second after they say it's available their site will crash...be down for a few hours...and they'll say "they're all sold out now" even after nobody can access the page

All the upcoming stock on their site has (most likely) been sold out for a long time so that won't happen. On EU side they had pre-orders open for over half a week. Anyone who wanted to get in on early had their chance, now everyone is waiting for stock to arrive so that those pre-orders can actually be shipped.

Hmm... Hopefully at least some is being allocated to Amazon. :/ The EVGA website was useless during the preorder period. I got my order in at Amazon within a couple minutes of it being live.

After my CPU and iGPU started to get a bit hot (81C) when loading a large level in the Unreal Engine editor and got even hotter (88C :oO ) when I put my CPU through a 7 minute torture test on Prime 95 I have started work on Operation Cooldown.

My case should have 2 fans at the front, one fan at the side (which I have moved so that it pulls air away from my hard drives), one at the back and one at the top. But one fan I found had a broken cable, the one at the side, and I've been meaning to replace it for ages.

I also have space in my case for two fans at the bottom and two more fans at the top. So I thought, sod it. I'll order 5 of the bloomin things lol.

Got myself 5 x 140mm Aerocool Shark fans with white LEDs. The other fans in my case have red LEDs, so I'm worried that it's going to make the inside of my case look pink lmfao, but the red LED fans were more expensive so fuck it lol

Only cost me £25 though so I can't complain too much I guess :oP

I really wish that Antec had updated their 1200 case because that was amazing, best case I've seen with regards to cooling and airflow.

Amazon just charged me for my 1080.

Hope these things are going to be more widely available when I'm ready to get one in August. I wasn't expecting this much of a clusterfuck of a launch tbh.

I called my microcenter(no way am i driving 40mins) and the customer rep says they're sold out and won't have more until 2-3 weeks. I think she's tired of getting calls and just reading a script.

FE has been up at nvidia's site for days now so thats good news. This week looks like we'll be getting more customs. Praying for retailers to have gigabyte extreme and aio!

Didn't know people were desperate for stock. My local little computer store in a smallish Aus city had at least 2 founders edition...for $1,440.
