Xbox One S: 40% smaller, 2TB, 4K for movies/tv, internal PSU, $300

I already have a PS4 (and Wii U...*cough*)and there just aren't enough games that appeal to me on Xbox One to get me to come over, but I won't lie, I really dig that color scheme.

When Scorpio comes out, then we'll talk.

I would bet that this is silent too. The APU has been shrunk in half aka the hottest component.

The internal PSU wont hurt anything. They could have made it smaller with an external PSU, but I guess they want to make it attractive to the AV market. (if the UHD blu ray is true)

PS4's build quality can be improved and all that small size makes the fan noise much louder than my GTX 970 PC.
People keep repeating the noise complaint (which is valid) but that doesn't take away from Sony's HW capability. They could have solved the noise issue and still be smaller than the Xbox One S and that too without a shrink.

If Panos was involved this Xbox One S could be top tier stuff in terms of internal design.
Still not sure why people would buy this when Scorpio's coming next year.
Different price segments.

Considering how fucking loud my PS4 is when playing Uncharted, I'd take an XBOX One sized PS4 that is as loud as the XB1 any day of the week.

Depends on whether they had to reduce the size of the cooling fan in the slimmer Xbox. A smaller fan would generally mean more noise, and if the power supply is indeed internal, it would now have to dissipate more heat than before, possibly requiring it to spin up faster.

That console looks crazy tiny compared to the original. Very nice. Hopefully the power supply isn't massive...

It will probably be smaller than the console itself.

If this really has UHD Blu-ray at a typical console price it's going to be very popular with AV enthusiasts.

Basically a role reversal of the early days of PS3 vs 360 :)

Though I find it hard to believe that Sony would be significantly beaten to the punch on a UHD console given the importance of UHD to the wider Sony business. I think either Neo comes this year or jeff_rigby is right about a firmware update (very doubtful)

I hear you. If the XB1 S is louder than the XB1, then I would rather have the fatter version.

It's not like I am carrying my console around with me and I have plenty of space on my entertainment stand for a big console. What I cannot tolerate is that passive fan noise that is clearly audible over a comfortable TV volume, and that jet engine noise it makes when I play graphically-demanding games.

It's a testament to why my PS4 sounds like a jet turbine.

I'm sure Microsoft COULD decrease the size more but don't want to for heating reasons.

absoultely

The on top of the noise comparision the Ps4 build quality is shit, the console looks cheap up close and I've had to replace 2 DS4's now. I've never had controllers fail like that in the decades I have owned consoles.

Before trading in my OG XB1 for this I will definitely wait on the reviews specifically if it is as quiet

no one knows. speculation is maybe a mic for voice commands

Wow wtf?

I have been looking for a solution for the xbox in my room not having Kinect, but I don't want to do away with the Elite controller :/

Doesn't really matter how small the PS4 is if it's really noisy.

If the Xbox One S is still silent, they've done a great job.

That new smaller controller is very interesting.

My wife finds the Xbone controller very uncomfortable, but she LOVES the 360 controller. Hopefully this new S controller will be the perfect Xbone controller for her, and people who have the same experience as her.

PS - I also think the 360 controller is better ergonomically than the Xbone, and I use an Elite.

it's cool that the PS4 is smaller and it does look quite nice but to be honest it's build quality leaves a lot to be desired, it feels quite cheap and let's not pretend it isn't loud as hell.

the xboner is huge but at least it feels like a nice premium piece of tech and it's nice and quiet

Xbox One is also a better looking console. The PS4 design is going to age horribly.

I wonder how different the controller is, that's what interests me right now.

It looks great and a big improvement over my current Xbox One, especially since I have a white one and can more easily see the difference. But there's little point for me in picking one up with the Scorpio coming next year.
