Xbox One S: 40% smaller, 2TB, 4K for movies/tv, internal PSU, $300

It has a classy look about it. Something that fits right in with a home entertainment set up.

Not that the ps4 looks bad, but xbone looks better.

Put a gamecube with a classy setup and its a mess.
Mmm yeah, gotta disagree sorry :P It reminds me of a huge VCR, rather than a classy bit of electronics.
The white xbox one looks very modern and really aesthetically pleasing. I would say it's the best looking console out right now.
That looks nicer, but it doesn't change my mind about the design.
Lol @ this looks better than that. Opinions are opinions, there is no fact as to which one looks better.

However, I do hope they have an all black (matte).
Haha good point, and yes please for the love of god. My XB1's shiny side was scratched to shit just by wiping dust off it :| please have a matte black version.

I'm not so sure about that. Xbox One looks like a horizontal work pc.

Disagree, the x1 is the most un-imaginative design thee is with a huge power brick to book. It's a rectangle. The ps4 design is vastly better.

A lot of the most beautiful consumer electronics ever are "just rectangles". The XBO has a consistent visual design language between the box, the controller and even down to the power brick and HDMI cable. I bought the two consoles within a couple of months of each other and was kind of shocked at how much nicer and more premium the XBO looked when setting it up. The single mark against the hardware's aesthetics is that it's unfortunately large.

The XBO slim is solving the size issue / making the power brick internal which is nice, although I think it's a step backwards in aesthetics.

Well, here's another anecdote. My PS4 also runs quietly. Whenever I'm done, I put it away in a backpack which helps prevent dust buildup. A bit of a hassle, but the main point is that how you take care of your console definitely matters.
You do realize that the moment when the most amount of dust gets inside an electronic device is when it's turned on right?

The airflow sucking in new air, and with it dust, does more harm than having it on display will ever do.

Shrinking current chips to 14nm FF is quite hard due to different gate design. That's one of the reasons the Neo and Scorpio exist. (if you're going through all that effort might as well make a revision)

Hence my post, if its the same chips, a smaller chassis will just be a bit more noiser and kinda pointless.

If it has a 4k BR player thats nice though...but still confused.

Right, like I'm going to put my PS4 in a backpack every time I'm done playing

are you actually suggesting that putting your PS4 in a backpack whenever you aren't using it is a reasonable thing to do?

I disagree, the PS4 is as consistent and has a better design, half the size, and no power brick and is also easier to clean due to the vents that are all around the chasis. Way better design. How is the controller in X1 better designed with the box compared to PS4? Half of Aesthetics is visual design and the large rectangle is poor at the best of times. As soon as I saw x1 first thing I said was 1980's large VCR.

looks nice but as long as my day one console still works i wont be upgrading.
4k video doesnt interest me at this point

This thread is now about:

- Loud PS4's
- Putting PS4's in backpacks
- My plastic box is more attractive than your plastic box
- DID I MENTION MY PS4 IS LOUD??

Even if that Gamestop list is real. Most likely place holder pricing. Look at the date, definitely place holder.

I suspect it will launch between $299-$350. Multi game offers will be used to clear existing stock without dropping price further.

You raise some really good points, I forgot about how unpacking the Xb1 felt really premium. The packaging was all really well considered, almost Apple like. Also as you mention, even the smallest things, like the hdmi cable aren't just standard parts, they went all out.

Word.

I remember thinking the PS4 looked amazing when it was revealed, but when I saw one in person, it looked cheap as hell. I think it has something to do with the plastic quality. It's not as noticeable on the white PS4 though

Agree. It somewhat surprised me how everything clicked together design wise when I opened my box in 2013.

Since they put a placeholder date on that SKU sheet I wonder if they just put a guesstimate price on it as well. Or misheard the CAD or BP price or something.

Current chasis is quite wasteful space wise. They could fit better cooling in a better form factor and power can also be improved upon without revising the chip. Or they might have shrunk it anyway.
This looks to still be larger than the current PS4. As for 4K BD we don't know right now. 4K Netflix and HDR are nice on their own though.

Huh? Cheap how? The console, itself has a premium feel to it.

It would be a lot nicer without the black bottom part, always thought that similar design was horrible on PlayStation 2,3 and the holes are a bit extreme.

Agreed. Although the 60GB PS3 used the bottom part to great effect and made the console look like it floated.

Looks are nice, HDR ^^, and if there is a 4K BD player inside it could be a good seller. I agree they need to keep the price down.

I really hope this thing has a similar retail release as the Xbox 360 S had. they announced it on Monday and it was out in stores in less than a week.

I can only hope...
