Xbox slim. Dead rising 4 horizon 3 and Scalebound will absolutely do the trick. Everything else since sunset Overdrive pretty much turned me off. Back to being a 2 console backlog masterrace.

um. he is not. my old PS4 was like that too. the fan runs very fast and it being small was the reason for it to be so loud. specially the old models.

run any 60 fps game and you will hear the PS4 more than the TV in some cases ( happened to me in DOOM and Overwatch )

the new PS4 version though ( at least mine is, is very quite ). you will have to mute the TV and be like 1 meter away from to able to hear anything .and even then its not loud at all )

My launch PS4 is pretty quiet.

While close to consoles Xbox One is indeed more quiet from where I play I can't hear any.

Anecdotal I know but maybe you can ask the guaranty to replace your PS4.

My 360 was awful, even after the update allowing you to install games to the system.

I uploaded two videos of my system playing a movie through Amazon Prime and another with Uncharted 4 running. The system actually got a little louder shortly after I shot the Uncharted video, as I took that footage within 30 seconds of the game starting up.

The issue seems to be that the PS4 is pretty good at getting dust inside it which insulates components and causes it to heat up. When I cracked mine open and cleaned it out, it went back to whisper quiet even at the most intense of times.

If you have any guides for doing so, let me know. At this point I figure there isn't much to lose.

No. It'll most likely get hardware support for h.265 codecs and an updated HDMI port. Neither of which will result in an actual stronger console when looking at it from a game perspective.

I did, I don't remember it being loud at all.

I actually set mine up again a couple of days ago and it's very loud. Even discounting the disc reading noise, the actual cooling fan is very noisy. Never seemed that way to me back in the day, but I guess my standards have changed since then after years gaming on a silence-optimised PC.

Well, here's another anecdote. My PS4 also runs quietly. Whenever I'm done, I put it away in a backpack which helps prevent dust buildup. A bit of a hassle, but the main point is that how you take care of your console definitely matters.

It doesnt need to be imaginative to look good. Classy thing are usually the most unobtrusive looking, nor stands out. Minimalistic lines and such.

I thought Linear PCM was better than bitstream? I have both my PS4/XB1 set to LPCM w/ my 5.1 receiver based on the advice I read here.

For games LPCM is fine. Even for movies LPCM is fine for most people. However the issue with the Xbox One doing the decoding is when it sends LPCM to the receiver, you can lose the ability for your receiver to apply certain mixes to the audio such as matrixing the audio to output to additional speakers. For example if your receiver receives a 5.1 Dolby Digital signal, and you have a 7.1 system, it can apply a matrix decode to the audio and send audio to your 2 additional speakers.

Shrinking current chips to 14nm FF is quite hard due to different gate design. That's one of the reasons the Neo and Scorpio exist. (if you're going through all that effort might as well make a revision)
