Goodnight, fellas.

Lol, another crazy Spider-Man Reference (thanks to BroBot for picking that up)?

Considering that Garfield is the last name of the guy that plays Spider-Man in the latest movies ? And the game would supposedly have to be based on the movie, soo.....

but he's not spiderman anymore...or is this a joke post?

One on the TV and the other on the laptop. Double time!! Finals will be rough especially considering that Draymond won't be playing.

Absolutely! Might be a close game with no Draymond, so it's a can't miss. Sony conferences are usually the best, so it's a can't miss as well.

I'm assuming the PC part right? (because even multiplat, PS4 is going to be carrying the game)

I don't agree with any of it. Console gaming isn't doing much in Japan anymore. It might make a few hundred thousand, but it's not pushing a million in Japan.

And just to throw this out there. How much time does Capcom have if RE7 is exclusive?

Brobot connected it in a funny way earlier in this thread. He has now dropped a Garfield hint twice in this thread. I dont know what else it could be. I do know that the creator of Magic: The Gathering's last name is Garfield, but that doesn't seem like something big enough to tease. Didn't know he wasn't playing Spider-Man any more. We have been playing around for a while, who knows but its fun.

I don't know about that. How does RE7 hope to hit 4 million in a time frame if it only sells 2-300k in Japan launch compared to the near 700k of RE6 launch. It would have to make those numbers up elsewhere.

And I don't think the console gaming in Japan is that dead. Japan definitely needs to pull a bit of it's weight. 2-300k is a crazy drop off.

Edit: Remember, RE6 is 6.3 million WW as of 10/2015.

Console gaming is dead in Japan. The sales are BAAAAD. When the highest selling console game in Japan this gen is a third person online multiplayer shooter on Wii U...something's wrong.

I don't think PC could carry it across that mark. You'd need a million at $60 by the end of March, which I don't think is possible.

ehhhh, Depending on how the bigger risks they are taking with this new Resident Evil are received, that 4 million could be in jeopardy even if it were multi-plat.

For reference, DR3 didn't have a hard time hitting the 2 million mark on only X1 prior to its Steam release. No reason RE7 couldn't do 3-4 million on a single platform, or PC/PS4. How much did RE2 do on just PSX?

Also, to your earlier point - Tomb Raider Definitive Edition & the downloadable title were both released on X1 & PS4, and then the sequel was timed exclusive. There is a precedent for this type of deal; it is absolutely within the realm of possibility.

Hmm... Garfield.
  • Garfield likes lasagna.
  • Lasagna=Italy.
[*]Italy is in Europe, which also contains Greece.
  • Greece is in a debt crisis, what one could call an economic Crash.
  • CRASH.

He lives, everybody.

This one a little reaching, the rest is good.

Is the guy an insider or are you people willing to believe anyone capitalizing R D R in that order?

You don't just build up an audience multiplatform to turn around and say 'nah, we're going exclusive.' You get backlash for it. RE6 wasn't...good, and if RE sales tell you anything, it's that sales are based on the reception of the last game. So...yeah, RE7 is going to have an uphill battle here.

But lets look at the actual games. MGS4 last gen and MGSV this gen only had a small drop off in sales for the first week (50k) and they both debuted to over 400k sales. Sure MGSV was on PS3/PS4 but PS3 software sales have been trending downwards incredibly quick as those sales transition to PS4.

I expect a drop off with RE7 but not remotely so big.

There are reasons why SFV didn't perform as expected on PS4, but I don't see why console exclusivity was one of it.

What I don't get is why Sony is so heavy into 3rd party exclusives these days. Most franchises sell much better on their console anyhow and looking at their portfolio, they are still the only ones who are at eye level with Nintendo when it comes to 1st party support.

Because 3rd party, particularly JP published 3rd party, is one of the factors that has helped maintain a high audience diversity for the Playstation Marketshare, and has helped it continue to grow its market share in non-tentpole genres. It's a win-win for Sony, cause they get these 'fan favorite' series that small but vocal pockets of the western audience love, while developing titles that can help them maintain or grow sales momentum in the Asian territories.

Not only that, many of these Japanese published titles are far smaller in budget than wester produced games. Not only is there no reason not to pursue JP developed titles, but it literally helps every facet of their Playstation brand & business.

RE6 was not received well by fans. MGS4 was.

If you want to look at big drop-offs going by fan reception, go from FFXIII > XIII-2 > LR. Cut in half every release in Japan.

E3 is becoming emotional before it actually starts.

Not a great comparison. XIII-2 and LR are more like spin-offs than direct sequels (FFXIII is a complete story). They never got the same resources/marketing a mainline FF usually gets. They were both largely outsourced.

They'll get some backlash for it, sure. But its a matter of messaging too. If its a game making its console debut on Playstation from the get-go, you'll get some Xbox fans mad, but they're ultimately not going to care. Heck, a game like Resident Evil is super saturated for the Xbox audience - they're getting two zombie focused games announced tomorrow (State of Decay 2/MMO, DR4). If the immediate announcement is "PS4 timed-exclusive, launching this fall", I don't think the MS fanbase will care as much as you think. Especially if there is a PC version launching day & date.

Also, fans have been very receptive to Resident Evil this last year or so. Capcom has committed to delivering Resident Evil 2 Remake, RE Remasters have been selling so well that its been one of the major points for Capcom posting profits last year, and RE6 doesn't seem to have the sort of poison associated with it when being discussed as other controversial games or studios do (The Order/RAD, for example). I would say the audience is very high on Resident Evil right now.
