Not necessarily. Studios do this every so often- they cold announce a game & show some concept for it specifically to use it as a hiring call to other developers. Kojima Productions is a team probably looking to hire, and need something to put out there to entice people to sign up.

This, the "Sony is in trouble" narrative some are peddling is laughable and sad. Sony is cruising at this point. MS is in full panic, this feels like a panic move on their part.
Did you guys laugh at announcing a console- and supposedly "the most powerful console"- that's over a year away?

There was no long COD demo at Microsoft's conference, so I assume it will open for Sony.
Expectations need to be firmly in check. This happens every E3 press conference cycle.
Then again, last year we got FFVII Remake, The Last Guardian, and Shenmue 3, so what the fuck do I know? Even so, I go into every E3 with the most moderate of expectations. It's just setting yourself up for disappointment when you're expecting megatons left and right. I just like seeing what cool stuff is coming out from the various companies.
I'm just bummed that I won't be able to make it to the show floor this year, since my pre-registration data was deleted on the E3 website, and I didn't find out until after the registration window closed (unrelated, but my confirmation email was deleted by yahoo, and I couldn't get them to restore all of my emails!). I work at Capcom, so I was hoping that my boss would have a spare guest pass like she did last year, but sadly, it doesn't look like she does. On the up side, I'm sparing my feet a lot of painful walking this year!

They will care when you can only play Fallout 4 VR on a scorpio for example. 4 or 6 TF does not matter, but Sony are making poor choices for CPU and bandwidth in Neo if Giant bomb leak specs are correct, it will struggle. Hopefully Sony are scambling and going option B.
I can only speak for myself but honestly? I felt bad for them for all the leaks prior to the show

I personally bought a ps4 because it was the more powerful console at the time and not because of exclusives and so did my friends. I think 3rd party titles drive sales more then exclusives in today's console world.

lol. I don;t think you realise how un-inportant power is to the masses. Xbox versus ps2 all over. Price, brand are way more important. People in europe are not going to buy the more expensive scorpio over neo. I'm sure the $600 head set is flying off the shelves......

Bingo, so did I and all my friends (UK). Scorpio is a real threat to Sony in USA / UK. There as a SHU interview where he did not get why so many 360 players defected to Ps4 in USA and UK I recall. Sony fans on here being over confident, I will go back to MS if Neo has the leaked specs it does (looks shit CPU / gimped bandwidth / GPU OK)
You miss the point, a console that can do Fallout 4 at 1200p at 90 FPS...who cares about VR, I could play Witcher at 60/90 at 1080p, Souls games at 1080p60....I could go on.
You really think exclusives are more important than third party games ?

Ps4 was also $100 cheaper, that won't be the case here, scorpio is not a threat. Name one time a more powerful expensive console came later and outsold the current market leader? You can't. The masses thing differently then the hardcore gamer.

Pre E3 has FFXII HD. For me it's difficult to top new announcement wise. In fact I don't expect many new games at Sony's conference. Just give me an update on Horizon and WILD and I'd be cool.
So when Scorpio releases those 60 million PS4's are now obsolete? Cost for Scorpio will also be a factor.

I'm fairly sure MS are entirely reactionary right now, with Scorpio being nothing more than an attempt to one-up Neo, which has had more development time. You can tell they were not expecting it.
As long as Sony have new games to show (BIO7, BIO2 remake almost guaranteed for example) then they will easily "win" this year.

If the ps4k is cheaper but cant match the hardware specs of Scorpio, a lot of people will wait imo. Third party titles today are just way too strong. Most of the casual gamers I know want the more powerful system and that's why most went with the ps4.

It was not more powerful in reality, and that just shows how uphill scorpios battle is, PS3 sold faster then 360 because of it's WW appeal, MS doesn;t have that thus scorpio is not a threat.

PS4 was successful because it (1) arrived to market the same period as the competition (2) was more powerful than the competition (3) was $100 cheaper than the competition.
Left punch, right punch, uppercut. None of these 3 factors should be considered in isolation.
If Sony revises the Neo and it ends up being a 5 TF system, releasing one year before Scorpio, it should not surprise people because that's the kind of trade-off you expect for being first to market.

And the install base for PS4 in the UK/US is what?....8 million? the other 32 million ps4 owners don't even know what an xbox is.
