Part of me wants Scorpio to support the Vive. My wallet does not though.
Umm nope.
Not enough power jump to do 60 fps for those resolutions. You need something like 8x the jump.
All that power won't get taken advance of if they have to cater to the Xbone original.
I rather get my upgrade 4 years after launch than still getting this game that already have to sacrifice a lot on this consoles.
I especially look at Frostbite games.
You can try mobile GPUs with some shit dual-core mobile AMD CPU...How often are those PC cards paired with garbage-tier netbook CPU's tho?![]()
So does does Sony scrap PS4K like MS did DRM after seeing this?
Would be sweet as heck if they improve upon the 360 emulation.yes. Just think of the xbox one and all xboxes going forward as PCs. They all run Windows 10 at their core, all run on similar but upgraded hardware and there's no generational break so all your games and accessories work.
Yes, sports/racing games typically manage to hit the peak, but they're the exception rather than the rule.99.9% sure Forza Motorsport titles will run at 4k/60fps on Scorpio.
If Forza Motorsport 6 can run at 1080p 60 fps locked on Xbox One with 1.3 TF then Forza Motorsport 7 can run at 2160p 60 fps locked on Scorpio at 6 TF.
That's 4.6x the raw power.
No games are built or optimized directly for the 1070, titan or R390x.
Being part of a console with games built and optimized for the hardware is going to make it more comparable with a 1070, titan and R390x.
4K/30fps will also be for some titles with dynamic resolution. Indies could obviously go 4K/60fps.Scorpio will be good for 1080p/60fps and 4K/30fps. I see a lot of folks saying 4K/60fps--that's some monstrous horsepower not exactly attainable given those specs.
Lead platform would be Scorpio and then paired back for PS4 Neo, Xbox one etc...
You may not be aware but this idea of "console optimization", especially this generation, has shown to be largely irrelevant going on three years now.

pc gaming seems to work okay
No, games will be backward and forward compatible.
There won't be a new gen anymore. It will keep evolving.

REGARDING VR:
Todd obviously wants to bring Fallout 4 VR to Scorpio, but thats on Vive.
But MS is also on good terms with Oculus.
Does this possibly mean that Scorpio supports both Vice and Oculus??

No, but I can almost guarantee you won't hear a Teraflop number from them ever unless they increase it to 6 or greater.
Will it? That may only be if sales justify it. The PC comparison isn't that encouraging though...Star Citizen seems to be the only game targetting high end hardware. Are Neo and Scorpio both going to be cross gen machines?

Specifically talking about his comparisons. 1080p 30 fps to 4k 60fps needs 8x the power.
Can't say much more than "no". Not even close.
AMD cards (of the same architecture as PS4!) that perform similar to 750Ti are the R7 260X or R7 265 (or rather something in between). Source. Those cards are - surprise - about 1.8 TFLOPS, same as PS4.

Are people really expecting games to run at 4k on this thing? I don't mean indies, I mean stuff like Gears 4, Halo 6 etc.
Is this thing even going to be powerful enough for that?

Yea people are stuck in the generational upgrade thinking where the new gen had all new hardware to be learned... this I much more e like a pc upgrade where the software will be developed for highest spec available and simply be scaled down depending on devoce
yep, even complex multiplayer games scale well on pc. If they're going to support the xbox one as a baseline low spec going forward then there's still a good bit of life left in that. Maybe by 2020 or whatever when the next next xbox comes out they'll let developers cut off the xbox one but that's still a minimum of 6+ years for each console and the upgrade path is painless.
Yes it is.
Anything possible with 1080p 60 fps is going to be possible on the 4.6x as powerful console at 2160p at 60 fps.
You can try mobile GPUs with some shit dual-core mobile AMD CPU...
R9 M275X 1.18 TFLOPs
R9 M280X 1.79 TGLOPs

Maybe if the 2160p version looks the same or maybe worse than the 900p30 version.2160p/60 Scorpio, 1440p/60 Neo, 1080p30 PS4, 900p30 Xbone.
To clarify, I wasn't implying it's impossible. As someone already mentioned, Forza and other sports games might be able to achieve 4K/60fps. But you're unlikely to see Cyberpunk or the next Battlefield at 4K/60fps.Yes it is.

1080p 30 is not going to jump to 2160p 60 on Scorpio.... but the people in here saying 2160p 60 fps is impossible are wrong.
OP says 2017 but this is dropping this August right?
No I didn't. I've been busy. But I've heard 1080/60 thrown around for a lot of games and it ended up being a lie.Did you not even watch the E3 announcement? Yikes.
Yes it is.

Forza 5 in 4K/60fps could be possible. That game doesn't push much.Yes it is.
