Sea of Thieves (XB1/PC) Gameplay Reveal - Xbox E3 2016

I wonder where Captain Blackeye's gonna show up in this.

For those who don't remember, he's the pirate bloke who appeared in a portrait in Mad Monster Mansion in Banjo-Kazooie and also in person at Jolly Roger's Lagoon in Banjo-Tooie. He was originally set to be the main antagonist of Project Dream, an early form of Banjo-Kazooie for the SNES, but alas, as well all know, a bear stole his glory.

After Sea of Thieves's announcement, Gregg Mayles had this on his twitter account, an all new never before seen render of Blackeye that looks quite a bit like the graphical style of SOT.

Looks boring. No buzz. I predict it will bomb hard.

Seriously, why this? Why follow Rare Replay with something no one asked for or wanted? Why not throw us a goddamn bone with at least 1 sequel to Banjo or Conker before moving onto some risky new IP -- and I don't mean risky in gameplay, I mean risky as in taking the chance anyone will care about this type of thing...

Well, whatever. Hopefully in a couple years.
This is a game concept MANY wanted. Stop talking for everyone

Just confirm scorpio and a 3rd person camera please..

I thought that it looked a blast. I cant wait to have that.

I think it looks fun, especially if you have friends. They'll have to balance the exploration and action parts of the game, so both parts are fun. I can see the exploration get boring after the first hour or so and the action being clunky, but I love the concept.

One of my favorite games of the show so far. Looks like a lot of fun.

Curious to see if there will be any single player at all. Don't mind either way but if Rare has the time I'd love to see them try at a single player campaign.

Watching the cinematic trailer again, in addition to the role playing action multiplayer, there were glimpses of mermen, skeleton pirates, and kraken. It appears the live game presentation today barely scratches the surface of what this game will ultimately offer.

I find it kinda odd that people are complaining about the first person stuff now after a year since the game's announcement. I mean looking at the original trailer it seemed pretty apparent to me that it was going to be in a first person perspective.

Who knows, there could always be a third person camera toggle option in the final game anyway.

Looks like a fun game to play with your friends.

I don't have any friends :(

I guess that's what Groups on Xbox Live is for. But I agree. I like playing with others but I don't like chatting with them. It seems like this game requires that, so not for me.

Well he was supposed to be in that Game Dreams which turned into BK. If SoT has any relation to Project Dream then I am sure he would be in it. Probably he would be the first character you meet in the game in a hub island or something.

What would be sweet is seeing Treasure Trove Cove in the game.

They really needed to show off more gameplay because I don't understand what the game is actually about?

Yeah you cooperate and sail ships but what is the objective beyond that?

It looks charming but they need to show more than what they showed before.

So is this game an MMO or something more along the lines of Destiny with small servers/fireteams? Because if the former this could be a lot of dumb fun.

Really curious is this is going to be playable (or enjoyable) as a single player experience.

The ship looked like it required a group of people and it didn't even seem like you could drive it without verbal directions from someone because the sail was in the way. Maybe if there's a third person view you'll be able to get around that, like in Assassin's Creed: Black Flag.

I suppose there could be an AI crew recruiting mechanic so you can have people automatically fix your ship and shoot the cannons for you (or sail the ship while you do that stuff).

I want to like this, but haven't seen enough of it to know that I actually do. I'm generally not into what's referred to as survival games, as they just seem kind of empty and aimless to me, and I get the feeling this game could possibly be a bunch of that.

Looked sort of pointless to me. And having those actors paid to scream like they were having a blast was just too much for me.

My fear of open water was probably going to keep me far away from this anyways. That scene after the ship sinks had me taking a break to breath.

Some of the people that played it in the video posted links to their hands on impressions. One of them said that you could conceivably sail a ship on your own but it would obviously be slower, lower the sail half way so your visibility isn't obscured.

Except if you'd pay more attention you would know that's not the case.

Have you seen Garry's mod ship wars or the Kickstarter/greenlight game Blackwake? The core gameplay in those is crew vs crew ship battles. To me this looks like a non-indie higher budget but still kind of low budget take on that.

I get the feeling that the open world off ship island gameplay compares to No Man's Sky. Things to do/explore but not really any quests. Obviously you want to run into other people vs it being hard in No Man's Sky.

Maybe I'm wrong and there's more to it. No idea.

Hope I get to be the guy leaving the battle to run around the bottom of the ship nailing planks of wood to other planks of wood. Just what I always wanted in a video game.

If things like canon range, ship speed/range, and turning radius are customizable and incorporated effectively into the ship battle mechanics to gain advantageous wind position (a la Masters and Commanders), I will pick up an Xbox One the day this game comes out. And I couldn't care less about pirates nor Rare's typical cutesy art style.

Exactly. I mention that in my article/video. You can totally sail on your own easy. Just raise the anchor and only lower the sails about half way and you can see straight ahead from the captains wheel.

You will be losing out on some speed because of the sails not fully being released and if the wind changes on you, you will need to run down and change the angle of the sails.

yooo this looks fun. I feel like the community will be pretty silent on PC though :(

if there's a GAF group for this game I'm totally down. I've been begging for a pirate rpg like this for so long.
