Phantom Dust HD Port coming to Xbox One and PC (Play Anywhere) 2017

The reboot was also a remake, so im wondering if its the same game or a different one. Guess we will see something on it eventually.

Looking forward to it either way

I'm okay with it, but at the same time, it's shitty that we haven't received word on the other PD game officially. It's a sidestep, but at least the sidestep comes with a gift, I guess.

"Eh until we know otherwise, it's W10 sadly."

Sadly? I'm not some progress hating luddite stuck on 7 or whatever the fuck. W10 only is no skin off my back.

YAHHHHHOOOOO!!!

Phantom Dust was one of the best surprises of the original Xbox and one of the biggest losses when Live for the original console went down. Ultra glad to have it back.

So the Xbox Play Anywhere implies a Win Store PC port? Or just streaming to the PC from Xbox One?

Didn't watch the conference.

They specifically said its not in HD. Original assets.

uuuhhhh

UWP is a huge step back from Win32, in many ways invokes the days of GFWL except worse in many respects.

I never played the original and was watching this trailer, thinking about how cool the atmosphere seemed and how unlike the other games of today.

Now I know why!

Err, so are you telling me it's a fresh gaming experience with slick live play?

Between this and Lobb retweeting this exact thread, this thing must have a pretty meager budget. Still, I'm more than happy to gobble it up. Fingers crossed it ends up great.

I will say to anyone in doubt, even if its just a rerelease of the original version, this was one awesome MP game. Some of the crazier abilities did things like give you long term flight or let you reverse the gravity in the entire map or teleport or use telekinesis to collapse entire parts of the levels on people. Want energy swords? Gotcha! Make it rain lasers? Yep you can do it! There were so many crazy combinations of abilities, it was something really ahead of its time. Do we know if any of the original creators are working on this?

This is what it should have been to begin with. Remaking a game is stupid, and if people who played the original are disappointed in this news, well, this isn't meant for you just like every other re-release.

Also, I wish more companies realize this.

I wonder how Phantom Dust will be received on Twitch or YouTube, could it potentially find an audience on there especially if they implement tournaments with this Arena thing?

That's true! And if this weren't a MS game that's obviously going to be pushing that horseshit, I'd be upset. If it weren't coming to PC at all I'd be playing it on a console with the same (or worse) limitations as UWP.

Regardless, I'm talking about 10 overall as an operating system (which I have installed) and not UWP (of which I own no games and haven't bothered trying anything on the W10 store)

Very dope indeed... I thought this series was dead but if this is happening there's still hope the sequel will be completed.

I can see why they didn't announce it on the show, it would probably create some really confusing reactions after people were expecting the new game.

Don't give a shit that it's a port of the first game. PD needs more exposure. Not to be forgotten. If my PC can run it I'll grab it there.

Original assets can be run at a higher resolution like 1080p.

Sure, but that generally just highlights how bad the actual texture quality is. It's why studios go through the trouble of remastering everything. Curious to see how it'll turn out though.

Best case scenario actually, at worst the game is playable and there's community for awhile again, at best it leads to a real sequel, while also getting the original in case said sequel sucks

But every MS exclusive is going to be on the Windows 10 storefront...

So of course people who don't like UWP are going to be upset
