Xbox One S: 40% smaller, 2TB, 4K for movies/tv, internal PSU, $300

I that player and it works really well. Movies in UHD and HDR are pretty amazing, but yeah, they just got bitch slapped with a 500gb Xbox One Slim. Does everything the Samsung, plus $100.00 cheaper, you get a gaming console and all. I think this is such a big blow to them and to others in the UHD Blu Ray field. If MS begins to market the "S" properly, it could really take off because of the media capabilities.

I have a friend that works for BB and the Samsung unit sells very well because anyone buying a 4k set today is looking for something other than streaming, so it being the only device right now it sells very well.

Hnnnnngg holy mother of god, I need this so bad.

May get one but the Xbox one is already quiet compared to the ps4, so I don't know. I hope Sony puts out a more quiet ps4 tonight

I know UHD will be pretty niche but they should really push it as a selling point like Sony did with DVD for the PS2.

The S will be the cheapest UHD drive on the market AND it can stream and play games. $299 is a great price point if all it did was play UHD.

Finally got it pre-ordered on Best Buy. Gonna hang on to my XL1™ until scorpio comes out. Then i'll move the X1S to the other room and use Scorpio as my main machine.

Can't wait to get this....Zero interest In Scorpio or the future of XBOX my 360 is falling apart and I want a 4k BD player...win win

"While Microsoft was quick to tout 4K video support and upscaling for the new version of the Xbox One announced at this year's E3 and available in August, the company also announced support for high dynamic range color on the console. While that in and of itself will provide subtle visual improvements to Gears of War 4 — The Coalition studio head Rod Fergusson talks in particular about improved surface detail on things like metal and armor in the game — it will also provide a more consistent level of technical performance as well, according to Ferguson in an interview with Polygon following Microsoft's press conference.

Gears of War 4 employs a dynamic resolution system that tweaks the game's rendering resolution in both single player and multiplayer to maintain its target frame rate in each mode, which is 30 and 60 FPS respectively. According to Ferguson, the Xbox One S has additional raw GPU and CPU power compared to the Xbox One, and The Coalition's engineers have been able to take advantage of that in the game to reduce the frequency of framerate or resolution penalties in more demanding sections of the game.'

They are going all in on dynamic res.

Edit: Wow, just saw the stuff about additional power. That can't be right.

Oh this HDR has an impact on game performance? :(

Edit: oh for some reason I thought this was saying the HDR takes extra power so the Xbox has a little extra power to compensate for that. Extra power to alleviate framedrops from intense scenes? Huh, definitely need to hear more

Couldn't the dynamic settings work all the way up to Scorpio? If they build it in ahead of time?

"We have to look at what the engine can do with the power that Scorpio has," said Fergusson. "Because we're mastering at 4K, it's not about assets or art. It's about getting the milliseconds down in terms of getting the game to 4K at 60 or 30 [fps] depending on single-player or multiplayer."

Yea I believe that is what Phil was referring to in the Major Nelson video where devs could actually plan ahead like now and work a dynamic solution that the Scorpio could take advantage of.

I want this but I upgraded my launch system to the 1tb holiday bundle last fall. Maybe gamestop will have a crazy trade in deal.

I knew it. I remember them talking about how they had to downclock the Xbox 360 S because the chips after the die shrink were much more efficient. Might as well take advantage of the current die shrink to squeeze out a few more horsepower. Why not, you're already are throwing out the console generation thing, just go for it.

I just don't get how they unboxed a fully-packaged version of the console, plugged it in, showed it off, and it's still not gonna be available till August. :(
