God Of War E3 2016 trailer gameplay, not open world, all Kratos, 2017

It looks visually great, but man it doesn't look like it plays like GOW at all. I like the direction and I'll give it a chance, but a bit bummed with it not being a hack n slash game. Hack n Slash going extinct :(

What a way to start the conference.

Just now starting up Bend's game's trailer. Looks like The Last of Us rippled through the SIE development studios. I ain't mad either.

That was weird...

Kratos is a dad, slow paced game. My money is on his son getting kidnapped and then Kratos goes crazy lol

Otherwise, that didn't look like an action game

Since they've kept him, I like the implied direction they're taking Kratos; he's mellowed out somewhat (to the point he tells someone to stay calm), but there's occasional flashes of the person he used to be, not least in actual combat. Kind of seems like they're setting up the kid as a new main character too.

Insane looking, but...I dunno. I'll wait until I see the actual game. Can't say I'd want to play that scene out again after already watching it.

Looks great. We really didn't need another God of war in the same vein as 1-3. It was played out and I much appreciate the new direction.

GoW was a pretty meh hack n slash with an annoying character that I stopped trying to like after GoW2 so this is an interesting shift that I'd want to try it again.

That's an awesome intro to the show. I think it's great they changed it up a bit. It's probably still going to have all those cool combo moves from before that we expect but as a first show, it's important to quickly get the idea they got for their new game out there. I think if they just did what had been done, it won't feel fresh so by switching it up, it lends itself a bit to some new ideas. For example if you notice, the axe is very much a heavy weapon which has a different kind of attack pattern and I'd imagine there's more variety to weapons available for use, some slower and others heavy.

I think it's the first time I have been a little excited for anything showed so far

All the skill gain popups related to the activities the kid was doing - seems likely that he is the main character (probably after growing up some, or grows up during the game), and what we saw is just intro/tutorial that sets up passing the torch

Wouldn't be surprised if Kratos had a minor role and is mostly there for continuity

Finished watching, nice dose of gameplay. That actually looks... pretty fucking cool.

I'm assuming this is literally the same character rather than a reboot of him? The ability was called "Spartan Rage" so I'm gonna guess it's still Kratos just in a different setting.

Wtf is this?

As a character action game fan, this saddens me.
I will still get this day 1 due to how much I loved the original trilogy, but I felt this as well (especially as someone who isn't a big fan of TLoU, which seemed to be a big influence of this demo).

Also, I think the child is the new Kratos; knowledge points kept showing up as he learned about hunting and tracking and also what his dad said at the end.

EDIT: beaten.
