Nintendo @ E3 - No Direct, Just Zelda Treehouse Stream

Just saw the post about gaf being called out. Lmao.

Yes. Everything leaked. The new Legend of Zelda is a puzzle game.
:O
O:

It's impressive that nothing is ever leaked (except that artwork). When we all know Nintendo has already allowed some press to play Zelda, there is not a single person that leaks any details about the game. Besides, we don't know the subtitle. We even don't know how the booth is going to be set up.

Them ninjas are ruthless.

Despite the apparent similarities they'll still likely end up being dramatically different games. Big part of Zelda is the dungeons, puzzles, etc which I don't think HZD will really explore at all. That game is far more combat focused by the looks of it, which looks great, but end of the day overall content and direction of either is going to be very different.
Absolutely, as a guy who seriously considers Horizon game of show material and beautiful in its own right, Zelda's a different beast altogether, offering a different experience. I think they'll both square off as contenders at the end of the day tomorrow, should be interesting :)

Omg people are comparing Horizon to Zelda now...this is crazy. Does Horizon have dungeons?

Basically this. The gameplay style is much different. And the framerate of Horizon is really poor, I don't see Zelda will have such a poor framerate problem.

BTW, when I was watching Sony's conference, I discovered that many protagonists like to talk to themselves. When does this trend start? Tomb Raider 2013?

Both games can be great for different reasons. I have no idea why people are so focused on video games being some zero sum proposition.

As fucked as that was, it had nothing on Ooccoos.

Shiiiiiieeeett. You're right those things are actual devil fetuses haha.

LMAO so good!

Frankly, I'm shocked that Zelda hasn't leaked, people really would be all over that stuff, but it's seriously airtight. Really adds to the anticipation to see the results huh?

Because nuanced critical discussion of videogames is rather hard and not worth the effort most the time. Its much easier to drive by post without really thinking things our or simply be lead by emotion.

Came to say that I'm worried about Horizon to Zelda comparisons, and see that that conversation is already underway. Obviously not just me thinking that, then.

I got massive Zelda vibes watching Horizon, and it looked incredible. How can Nintendo match that?

And people can say that Zelda is about dungeons and puzzles all they want, but the fact of the matter that in Horizon
-You play in third person as a character in an open world with a bow that can ride a four legged animal around the place and explore,
and in Zelda U
-You play in third person as a character in an open world with a bow that can ride a four legged animal around the place and explore.

There's no way to say that the open world parts won't be comparable and it could be ugly for Zelda. This is my favourite game series, I'm just nervous as hell that it won't show well.

I thought Horizon looked kinda tank-y, honestly.

The game looks great overall, but the interactions with characters, dialogue, voice acting etc. isn't good. If Zelda goes voice acring they have to get it really right, and I'm not so sure they can for a big game like this.

I visited the Nintendo E3 site and it offered a survey. It's asking me questions (nothing out of the ordinary) about my experience with the site, but the questions are as if the Treehouse event already passed. Asking if I came to look at videos or if I'm going to pre order a game and stuff.

Its practically guaranteed not to show well, Horizon's gameplay was cherry picked to be awesome, Zelda's mostly likely won't be.

I feel REALLY confident about Zelda.

I will add that Aonuma and his team having fun exploring the possibilities is actually rather exciting as a prospect, Nintendo seems to be good at conveying the joy of creation as well as playing rather consistently in the Zelda series.

Well since Nintendo is reading this thread let me post my wish list.

Chibi Robo 3
Hotel Dusk 3
Endless Ocean 3
Eternal Darkness 2
Fire Emblem Musou
Metroid REBOOT (not 2D, not Prime 4, not Federation Force)

Eh... we'll see. I'm super excited about Horizon but the core gameplay of the Zelda we know is much different. Obviously the comparisons will be there, but I'm going to wait until I get worried that Nintendo will be shown up. I remember people saying how much better Darksiders was than modern Zelda and I could not roll my eyes hard enough.

We'll see. Still excited for now. I hope Nintendo doesn't spend a lot of time explaining mechanics and features that games have been doing for years. Will seem even more like Nintendo is behind the times.

Yeah, I have little confidence that Nintendo will deliver anything. Dedicating their entire E3 to a Zelda treehouse stream, shows a bit of laziness on their part, either that or they really think they have a winner with the NX (I'll be surprised if it does great business honestly), and feel they don't need to release it, just yet.

That being said, I am looking forward to the new Zelda game. Should be a fun viewing experience, at least.

It's their usual site survey, same questions as on the main site.

Well...if it's a Hylian language, you basically can't judge it but appreciate that it's there.

But who knows

Not to mention the open world and bow/arrow gameplay, which we know is getting a big focus in Zelda U.

It's been ~14 months since they announced the delay and the E3 2015 no-show and Aonuma said...

My expectations for what they show tomorrow are extremely high.

EAD3 are easily one of the world's best developers. Nintendo are not known to take much from other developers and other games so it's interesting to see their first attempt at a genre that has been massively over saturated lately. I'm expecting some clever original ideas that are not only fun but make sense in a practical way.

The thing that might still impress with Zelda is that theoretically, there's still a ton of the open world to see, and hopefully they've fleshed that stuff out since they last really showed that thing in, what, 2014?

Horizon, as fucking awesome as that looked, seemed to still largely take place in the same area as that debut demo. I could be wrong, but where she wrangled that deer-bot looked like where she fought the big dinosaur thing last time.

I'm not really seeing the Horizon to Legend of Zelda comparisons. Sure, Horizon looked good, but I didn't get a Legend of Zelda feel from it.

Just heard in an interview there are deserts, jungles, snowy mountains and more. So it's going to be similar but Horizon is more grounded and sci-fi, Zelda is pure fantasy and anime.

I just mean in terms of what they're showing off. There's probably way more to see with the Zelda demo than what was in that Horizon demonstration.

There will be more to see, they're objectively showing off more of the game which is a double edged sword because the length means it's nigh impossible to cherry pick awesome moments but gives a much more balanced perspective on the gameplay as a whole.

It's not a competition, Zelda will either be awesome or not awesome on its own merits.

It is a competition though. A competition in the media, a competition among consumers for perceived value. Just like it was a competition between PS4 and Wii U and despite being a hardcore Nintendo fan I had to choose PS4 because my money and time was limited and PS4 was the better choice.

I picked up a Wii U when it went on sale and had more time, but the competition was there. If Horizon and Zelda U come out within 3 months of each other, you'd best believe they'll be competing for my time and money.

Part of the issue is the difference between Zelda fans who are all about the dungeons and those who are all about overworld exploration. I'm the latter type, which is why TLoZ, OoT, MM are my favourites. Great overworlds. And TP, with its awesome dungeons and dull overworld did so little for me.

They need to nail overworld gameplay, and enemy encounters within it.

What was the tweet from NoA calling GAF out all about? Did someone say that it was curtains for Nintendo or something? Seems odd as they never seem to acknowledge much of anything.

Anyway, please give me a reason to use my WiiU again Ninty.

Please!

Is this at 12 pm noon EST? If so, then I am all set for tomorrow. I just started a new job today and lunch break should be an hour starting at 12 noon. Gonna make sure I bring lunch and eat in my car while watching the stream.

I'll be taking an early lunch break too. Probably won't be able to concentrate all morning. Or after the trailer, for that matter...
