I really don't understand Nintendo's approach to this E3. Yeah, there's not much to show, but there ARE games other than Pokemon and Zelda coming this year. 3DS has a decent list! You wouldn't know it going by this, though.

Do a 30 minute Direct with trailers and release dates. THEN you can go crazy with Zelda and Pokemon coverage.

They did exactly that last year and people, on gaf, fucking hated them for it.

This thread isn't even close to the sheer venom that ws thrown in their way last year.

I don't think people are upset about Pokemon, they're upset that they squandered 45 minutes showing gameplay that almost everyone on the planet is familiar with.

It's not just gameplay, it's the equivalent of watching a Pokemon let's play. And there's a reason those are banned on SA. Pokemon is not a game that's fun to watch people casually play through, and definitely not when they pause for minutes to talk about very minute changes.

Yeah, virtually everyone watching this knows how Pokemon works, and the changes have been so incremental over time that there's no need to showcase it for almost an hour, especially after showing a trailer for a Zelda game they say will redefine the series or whatever. Showing yet another Pokemon game right after that is like the mirror opposite of that idea.

I don't know how much clearer they could have made it that this isn't a Direct or a presser, but is, in fact, Treehouse Live. This is exactly what every other Treehouse Live has looked like. Did you think the name was a ruse?

I say this as someone that hasn't cared about Pokemon since Red, but this is exactly what I expected to happen as soon as they announced Pokemon and other games were going to show up.

My comment stands. I didn't say it was misleading or something. I said it was a poor strategy to begin with.

A live gameplay/DevQ&A/Discussion show. We have known that Nintendo isn't doing a conference/presentation this year for quite a while because they have very little to show.

In the last few years they did this in addition to their presentation but this year they got rid of the presentation.

As a pokemon fan the qol improvements, new mons, new mode, and new cinematic camera stuff for battles was very exciting had a lot of info. Sorry if you're not a pokemon fan but I wanted more footage from sun/moon sad they cut it so early.

I enjoy Pokemon as well but with the iterative approach that they take with each new gen, we don't REALLY need to see what minuscule changes they have made to fairly rote things like catching pokemon. We don't really need to see them running away from battles.

Say what you will about heavily-scripted E3 on-stage demos, they're doctored for this exact reason. Yes, we all understand Treehouse is about "raw gameplay", but Pokemon at this level (e.g., non-competitive) doesn't demo well. Unless you're super-fan it's not particularly fun to watch. They could've just as easily made an extended trailer (5-8 minutes) showing most major changes and gone right back to what Nintendo's actually at E3 for.
