Nintendo Treehouse Live @ E3 2016 Thread [*LIVE*] (No childish commentary allowed)

People have asked Nintendo for years to go back to the original formula, now that they are doing precisely that, people are still complaining. I know its probably not the same people, but this just shows that Nintendo really is doomed if they do, doomed if they dont with this franchise. I for one trust Nintendo to make another classic here!

Don't worry, in 2021 when Nintendo makes another Ocarina-style game to quell fan-demand people will lament how amazing Breath of the Wild was

Apart from wrecking enemies and hunting boars? And, you know, having a pet wolf?

Wrecking enemies and hunting boars. How would you ever do this without Wolf Link, I wonder.
And having him as a companion character is the whole appeal of the amiibo. If there were no Amiibo, there would be no Wolf Link companion character.

They just confirmed in an interview that the game will have no towns. They clarified that it's a Hyrule in ruins and they took direct inspiration from the world of the NES LOZ. They did confirm that there will be a handful of stray NPCs throughout the world but no towns or villages in the traditional sense. Also, they claimed that link will not have any kind of partner and will be exploring alone for the entire game.

Why are we believing this guy? There is no source, everyone could write that.

For me that would be a deal breaker. I like my immersive towns in Zelda games, I could spend hours on towns like Clock Town and Windfall, just talking to people and doing sidequests

Whats wrong with zelda combat? It works because its simple and extremly fun. Its the one of the best because of its simplicity and ease of use.

This is a pretty disingenuous argument. You can still follow the same formula and have towns, more dungeons, and have more enemies. I'm personally not rushing to conclusions because it is just the first area, but hopefully other areas having more to do and generally more variety. Not sure how many times I can kill a pack of 3 pig enemies.

The argument is only that the Zelda series have many different fans, and that it is impossible for Nintendo to please them all. What is ingenious about that? Btw, i would prefer a "traditional" Zelda-game (like Skyward Sword), but I am still interested in how they are going to do this.

its 12 times the size of Twilight Princess....

TP was large, but not in a good way. I got bored/tired of it. That might've been the game design too. I'm not necessarily against a super huge open world, and what I'm seeing with this game looks good, so we'll see.

Link asleep for 100 years?

So now we have influences from:

The Last Airbender
Skyrim
Monster Hunter
Assassin's Creed
Dark Souls
Metroid Prime
and, most importantly, the very first Zelda

Give this game to me noooow

Some Plot Info:

It'll be interesting to see how the plot kicks off in reference to this fog. Also, "Calamity Ganon" sounds pretty cool.

So, even if there are no established villages/towns, what if they pop up over time thanks to your in-game efforts? What if you establish some? That'd be legit.

Also, for those worried about villages. From Eiji Aonuma:

Okey dokey

Edit: Honestly, if there're like 10-15 fleshed out NPCs in the game. I'm ok with this. There doesn't need to be an established town or something. Can't speak on the topic of music, been watching without audio the whole day.

Maybe it starts with no towns and you help set them up ala fallout 4 settlements ?? And amiibo of non Zelda characters unlock villagers themed after say, Mario or Samus

- Hyrule in ruin, Link gets revived/awaken and given a magical Sheikah Slab
- ~100 shrines scattered through the world. We saw Treehouse folks go through a couple and get magnet and bomb runes
- Equipable clothing, weapons, shields.
- So far I don't think we've seen a permanent sword, just a range of weapons found on the ground or from enemies; limited durability. Have seen branches, a couple different swords, axe, pitchfork, spears
- Can roll bombs down slops, have a button to detonate bombs
- Use magnet rune to pick stuff up; saw them fishing treasure chests out of pond, throwing boulders at enemies, breaking boxes
- Find fire arrows or campfires on ground, light trees or grass on fire. Chop trees down with axe.
- Not much direction given at beginning, seem to be able to head in any direction pretty early, a lot of emphasis on being inspired by Zelda 1

Idk, just some of the stuff that came to mind. There's plenty of stuff throughout, I'd say just watch the starting trailer and skim through whatever else you can.

Thanks alot!

It's nice hearing Miyamoto say the very thing that has frustrated me about modern Zelda is something they wanted to change.
I'm so glad this didn't turn out like Twilight Princess.

Where did thid 4 dungeons rumour even come from...?

It came from a GameXplain Zelda E3 Predictions video that came out last week, and while they were discussing their hopes Andre decided to talk about a rumor he got from a second-hand reliable source that the following was the case about the new Zelda:

-There would be four main dungeons
-There would be 100+ mini-dungeons (what we know now as Shrines, which in the Treehouse stream it was already confirmed there are more than 100 Shrines in the game)
-A fantasy vs. technology theme (also confirmed as we see now).

I'd link the video in specific but I am lazy because it's a 55 minute video and it's mentioned halfway through it.

Calling Skyward Sword a traditional Zelda game. What world is this :(

Might be a time travel element where you can see villages in the past but they aren't there in the future?
This is what I'm thinking. Or, hoping for at least. I can't remember the comment, but Bill said something earlier that made me think we might have some kind of time travel or alternate dimension come into play.

The guy posting the interview most likely misconstrued "we don't want to talk about towns" as "there are no towns"
