Just fyi, 4 and 5 are out on IOS and I think they control extremely well. Purists would certainly disagree, but I think it's the best way to play the game.

I've never played DQ VII but I would definitely recommend DQ 4 as a starting point. Alternatively there's DQ II on mobile which is also a good starting point.

They're all great games though and easy to recommend to any RPG fan.

I usually don't really like playing JRPGs on my iphone but it's probably the easiest way to get them. The DS versions have become a little hard to find at a reasonable price here.

Horii confirms "We didn't have any plans to release DQ 7 in the states because it's so vast" but due to fan demand they eventually decided "We should just go for it" and thanked fans for their persistence, he cofirmed the tide started to turn after he was asked about it at the French conference last summer.

It would be fine but keep in mind the game is very long. Waiting for DQ8 might be better if you don't want to commit a ton of time for your first DQ. That's still a lengthy experience but it's shorter.
