Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

Yeah calling would probably be your best bet. I already had an open email thread with one of the sales rep (see my previous posts about Memory Express stalking me lol) so I asked him to cancel it which he did within the hour.

How long did it take you to get your refund or the "hold" taken off those funds? I cancelled mine on the afternoon of the 10th (Friday) and still nothing. I paid with a VISA credit card if that matters.

I'm just concerned because I've never dealt with them before. Thanks!

The hold only lasted for a week or so on my card so it was already gone by the time I cancelled.

Damn it, I just can't get a 1080 for anything. I'm checking that 'instock' site constantly but by the time I add it to my cart it's gone again, lol.

I'm about to pull the trigger on that one.. but there are better ones? Ughh wtf

Realistically if you want one just get it. The 2-3 frames you'll get from OC is kind of a waste imo unless you just like benchmarking most of your day.

I have an MSI Gaming X on backorder from Newegg now, thanks to that link up above. They're sold out now. Anyone have any luck with backordered NewEgg items, or should I expect it to be the same situation as the pre-ordered MSI Gaming X I have from Amazon?

Sigh. My preorder for the EVGA SC that originally had an expected shipping date of June 11th was first delayed to June 22nd, and now to July 6th. At this pace I'll never get the thing.

At least I've been able to chip away at my PS4 backlog.

Witcher 3 seems to the stress cards way more than any benchmark does in my experience. My clock also drops to just under 2 GHz in that game, while in others it's around 2050.

I also had to drop my core OC down to +100 because of TW3. Tried +130 initially and it was stable in 3DMark, Heaven, and a bunch of other games but showed artifacts in TW3.

Is that with the FireStrike demo? It seems they added a feature recently to specifically test overclock stability in the paid version

Well they basically added a looping stress test. I guess it's kinda handy to have a whole suite of benchmark and stability testing utilities, I don't regret getting the paid version for a few bucks.

My FTW preorder from EVGA changed from preordered to Open and I now I have pending charge on my card. Might finally be happening!
US? Or EU (plsplspls)

Yeah I'm hoping its like $2.50 or something during the summer sale

This thing keeps coming up for sale and going back to preorder (4-7 days shipping). FE prices for an upgraded cooler, clock speeds aren't great. I'm tempted, I wish I had some info on FTW though. Getting impatient!

If you're talking about the above link, please be aware that it's not the X version. It appears to be identical as far as cooling solution goes but it's not factory overclocked. I wonder how well they overclock and if it can match the X card.

For what it's worth, I have it preordered and the order status changed to packaging about 2 hours ago so it should ship soon.

Sorry I'm in the US.

Just updated to awaiting pickup from UPS. Finally!

In my experience most modern games do require some setting adjustments to hit 4k 60Hz. (EG. Disabling MSAA, or in the most demanding games, using the "High" setting instead of "Ultra".) Obviously, this is dependent on how taxing the games in question are.

Given the choice, I wonder if people would prefer playing at 1080p 60fps maxed settings or 4k 60fps reduced settings. Is one generally going to look better than the other?

Got a shipping notification and got real excited... it's just the new sli bridge from nvidia. So, that's definitely arriving before my actual cards even though it was ordered a week later.

Depends on what you value most in your visuals. 4k offers awesome image quality, which some people might find more important than stuff like shadow resolution, foliage distance, etc. Personally I try to find balance and would rather run a game at 1440p with tons of settings maxed out.

Redering @ 4k provides a huge image quality improvement. (4k at medium settings will look significantly better than 1080 would on ultra settings.)

Also, there's no need to lower your resolution so low. Just play at 1620p or 1440p instead.

Looking for some advice with EVGA cards. I c urrently have a 980 Ti Classified. I have about a week to step up, if I want to. The best card I can get on their stepup list is the 1080 ACX 3.0 (Can't get the FTW or SC editions).

Is it worth stepping up? I would have to buy an extended warranty (which transfers to my new card) for $30. I paid about the same for the cards, so there won't be any additional costs.

Is the 1080 ACX 3.0 much better than the Ti 980 Classified? I'm very interested in running VR and an ultrawide multimonitor setup.

The reason why I put 1080p vs 4k is that I've read that 1440p doesn't scale perfectly to 4k, so that wouldn't be ideal. Is that true? Would 1440p look better than 1080p on a 4k monitor anyway, even with scaling artifacts?

It's going to be narrowly better when both are overclocked (or both not) and use a heck of a lot less energy.

1440p on a 4K monitor is far superior to 1080p on a 4K monitor, I can assure you. These "artifacts" refer to the interpolation that takes place.

Okay, thanks for the info. This GTX 1080 card is my first foray into PC gaming beyond integrated graphics, so there's a lot I'm learning about for the first time.
