You are ignoring the very large, white working class vote that votes Tory. Has done since the 80s and Thatcher, and does now - my parents are a perfect example. You cannot boil these things down to simple, crude class warfare examples like you could 50 years ago.
Heck, the republicans in the USA have perfected the art of getting the poor to vote against their economic own interests - same goes here.
ha my dad is a staunch tory voter, yet he had to take 3 months off work at the start of this year due to stress after being overworked for the last couple of years due to funding cuts to local council meaning he had to do the work of what used to be 2-3 people.
still votes tory though. wehn i pointed out the discrepancy he just went into denial mode over it. I don't get how he can't see that he didn't himself in the foot. Regardless he has left that job now. I'm glad because it was really affecting his well being
