Speaking of Anglo-American confusion, my old English teacher was American, and he used to tell this amazing story about when his parents came over to Britain to meet his wife's family for the first time.

They were all waiting at the airport and eventually his parents arrive. After greeting them, his mother exclaims "I've been on that airplane for 10 hours and my fanny is so sore!"

Oh Americans :P

There is no point watching until at least 10. Someone said sky have done an exit poll. Don't know if that is true.

Sky have done an 'on the day' poll to release tonight, but not an exit poll.

There's talk someone has done an exit poll, but potentially not a broadcaster, some private company maybe? Who knows.

Sky have commissioned a YouGov "on the day" poll, which isn't an exit poll as it's still done online but they do ask people how they voted, and possibly the same people they polled the previous days.

They did it for the Scottish Indyref, which had like 46 - 54 when the actual result was 45 - 55.

Voted remain. Feeling ultra nervous about the result.

Oh and everyone knows giant strawbs are the best

serious lack of pens down at my polling station. Pencils only. They wonder why people say politics is corrupt.

Amazing how blatant corruption in Westminster goes by unnoticed to these people but this is what sets them off. I guess pens over pencils is an easier pill to swallow than years of manipulation by the elite.

Banks have commissioned a private exit poll.

To make money.

But no broadcaster has. They have though commissioned a re-polling of previously polled people to see how they actually voted.

Sky News will probably have some decent analysis with a few clues from Michael Thrasher.

Causal 5 mile walk to my polling station in a sweater and Barbour on what seems like the hottest day of the year

Have just read that anything over a 6 point lead for leave in Sunderland would point to a leave win. have to hope for a smaller victory for leave.

Just got back, now not sure if it's just the time of day but I was the only one there and on her slip of paper there was only like 4 names above me and not many people underlined on the list the girl was checking off.

Well, they suspect that anything on or above a 6 point lead in Sunderland would mean that it's going to be VERY close.

The turnouts in NI and Scotland are giving me hope though.

AFAIK there have actually been 0 exit polls done (if any of the city boys actually did any then they've played it extraordinarily close to their chests) so we're going to be pretty much in the dark until the early hours at least.

The only certainty is that a large number of people are going to be crying like an anime fan on prom night

There can't really be an exit poll for this - they're usually measured against previous votes as a baseline, of which we have none.

We'll get some indication from other avenues though - the finance sector won't share theirs because they need some indication to see whether they're working over the weekend...

This is the only inkling of one that I've seen, dunno how much stock to put in it. Ben Page is reliably obviously but it's secondhand info: https://twitter.com/benatipsosmori/status/745910470033432576

I voted leave. I don't care a huge amount about migration and I think financially, it'll all even out in long term either way too.

I only voted leave because of some rather Orwellian stuff I've seen the EU up to as of late and my general disagreement without bureaucratic it is. I sincerely doubt it's about to change for the better either, especially via the UK's meagre input. I don't like Cameron's goons having more power, but I don't really see why adding another layer of people who can dictate our stuff at a higher level would be any better when they're equally as susceptible to doing stuff I wouldn't want at some point down the line either.

I'm actually a big fan of unity and things like a european union appeal to me, but the way the current EU is governed I don't agree with :/

Sadly, I fully expect 'remain' to win because status quo is always the default, those wishing for change always have to push the hardest, and when some of the people acting as spokepeople for the changing vote are a bunch of clowns (Farage and Boris) it doesn't help :P

My biggest issue with this whole referendum has been all the emotional appeals and scaremongering engaged in by both camps. It makes it very difficult to find actual facts without some serious digging :/ I found myself wrinkling my nose in disgust at rhetoric and propoganda put forth by both sides as I shovelled through it trying to find something that looked remotely solid to base my decisions on.

Anyone know the percentage of people voting (or registered to vote) by post?
