So as an American who's central experience with Brexit is the NPR report with Robert Seagull (hahah... I kill myself)...

Would people here equate the Donald Trump movement with the Leave movement? Isolationism, nationalism, etc?

We were talking about this at the lunch table, and I was just curious.

I'm not surprised London turnout was lower.

Havering turnout is going to shock people I feel. Friend of mine was joking that he would need a boat to get to the polling station.

Everyone talking about Remain using MI5 to change votes, but no one is talking about Boris Johnson using his weather machine to flood London to stop voters!

I'm finding some of the panicked reactions in this thread quite amusing to read. Could it be this is the first time a slice of the young, University-educated GAFers in decent white collar jobs are seeing what the lower class really thinks?

It's easy to call people racist or xenophobic, but your opinion might change if you lived in an area that over the past couple of decades has gone from just mixed working class to seeing women every day in the full veil and hearing any language but English spoken in your local supermarket, plus jobs decimated and local community areas reduced to a string of betting shops. I think these people have real concerns, confusion and fears that aren't being addressed - they're making connections between what's happening on the news and to the economy and what they see in their daily lives. It's shit-heads like Farage, the Daily Mail etc who swoop in and exploit those concerns for their own agendas.

Do you blame the "plebs" for voting leave, or do you blame the government for willfully neglecting the people at the ever-growing bottom of society and the tabloid rags for taking advantage of their insecurities.

That is the general opinion, yes.

I will actually punch my laptop if Alastair Campbell does not shut up.

"We have to look at why people are turning away from Labour" yeah like you had nothing to do with it

Boris Johnson is a wannabe Trump that's been fired as a journalist for making up quotes.

Don't worry bro, you will just have to pay for visas, do interviews and submit lots of paper work.....just like the rest of us

Well, I do have visa-free travel because I am a US citizen. I just liked using my UK passport to go through the far shorter EU member immigration lines when visiting Europe.

London has MILLIONS of people who are likely left leaning, and/or immigrants. It is majority non-white. These people will carry remain way past the finish line to over 5 points spread.

I thought oh shit need a visa for EU trip, but I forgot you can always don't need to bring the passport and claim asylum if got caught.
