The British Pound is now trading at its third lowest value to USD since 1791

I mean all of the prominent leaders, economists, and many other people knowledgeable on the subject said this would happen if UK left EU. Now we're all probably going to hurt economically because of UK's separation which is just fun times here in Canada cause it's not like we're already fucked as is.

Went through a couple revisions of this, because I just don't know what to say. Thought about joking about hanging politicians in the streets, thought about a generic prayer comment (even though I'm usually opposed to those), all I've got to say is fuuuck.

Hope you guys end up okay.

Smart money will start buying the pound pretty soon, this is a massive overreaction. Its not like anything at all is really going to change for years while politicians try to figure out what to do next.

So as a US citizen with a little disposable income, how can I take advantage of the Brits' idiocy? Buy cheap stuff now or wait for the crash to bottom out?

Problem is, stuff in the UK has always cost a lot more than in America. I'm afraid even with the Pound collapse, the cost of things in the US won't be much lower than they are in the UK. In fact COGs may be equal now

John Oliver is focused on American issues now. Sorry

You do realize Texas has a higher GDP than New York right?

Sure, but my analogy was in direct reference to London's influence/effect into Europe, primarily through its Banking market. NY leaving the US would more than likely cause a similar shift into the region and global markets.

At any rate, it's a pretty absurd hypothetical.

Currency is stabilising at around 1.34. This 30 minute period is in the green. Likely because the result has been "all but decided" for about 45 minutes.

Let's see what happens when Leave gets through officially.

This is a classic market overreaction. Nobody actually knows how the entire process will go down. Perfect time to buy stocks right now.

Hey, good for British exports. Time to get that Aston Martin I've been holding off on. Though if I was to guess, financial services is their largest export, rather than manufactured goods.
