Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

Companies i should avoid buying from ? Problems like coil whine from dpecific retailers ? Should i go with FE ? Problem is i buy from sellers in the Local market to avoid shipping costs and warrenty ( I am out side Canada right now )
Don't buy Asus, their customer service is trash. If you have to RMA your GPU for any reason, good luck. If you have the option, purchase Evga.

I was checking on non-FE 1080 prices in New Zealand for a buddy and ... goddamn.

Most are in the 1400-1500 NZD (900-950€) range. Is this the pricing he should expect in the near future or are these supposed to be jacked up prices that'll come down once availability isn't an issue anymore?

The fuck is going on with the EVGA FTW, just spoke to scan and they said they are now expecting them on 4th of July. Delay after delay after delay, reminds me of when I wanted a EVGA 680 and EVGA were taking an age then as well, I got fed up and bought a different card

Just spoke to EBuyer and they said 22nd of July, WTF is going on.

My ETA at caseking still says 28th but EVGA EU/DE won't say jack about anything relate to their 1080s instead they happily promote their tacky HB SLI bridges when literally nobody in Europe received a card from them yet lol

Well Ebuyer just told me the 22nd of July....

My Gainward GeForce GTX 1080 Phoenix GS just arrived at my local post office. Heading there in an hour to pick it up. I know what I'm doing tonight. :)

the one big difference between today and when I ditched the EVGA 680 idea all those years ago is there were other cards actually available at the time, theres fuck all in stock atm except those bullshit founders edition cards.

Man this is annoying me, I preordered within 2 minutes of the card going up

Running benchmarks, tweaking, starting different games every 5 minutes to see how they look with the card? You won't be gaming much at least :)

You guys remember that compsource having the msi cards? Like others I got refunded since they didn't have enough supply. I'm worrying if I'll get charged later down the line when supply comes in. I couldn't figure out a way to make sure my order is cancelled so I'm wondering if it's already cancelled due to the refund.

The demand is real. Nvidia's largest high end launch ever and it's still sold out everywhere a month after release except at Nvidia.com for FEs from Digital River lol
*sigh* and it seems the tech is deserving of such demand. But this is still ridiculous. I should be able to order some non-FE version of the card from somewhere. Single-digit minutes of stock for an enthusiast item like this outside of the launch week is bonkers. :[
I'm finally getting around to testing my msi with the Vive. So far everything that gave my 970 fits is smooth as butter on the 1080. As a VR enthusiast, I'm super pleased.
My frustration intensifies. I have a great setup for VR and my Vive came waaaay quicker than I expected... and my 780 just cannot keep up to a reasonable degree. I keep having to restrain myself from diving in because the experience is so obviously below spec, but sniping one of these cards has proven to be quite the task.

Hmm. My email from Amazon Payments said:
"Thank you for placing an order 102-2304922-4533009 with CompSource.

We canceled this order (details below)."

Weird it says "completed"?
Yeah, I first got an email from Amazon payments saying my order was successful and my credit card got charged. Then I got another saying compsource has refunded me and the status of my order changed to complete. I emailed compsource about it and they told me that Amazon sends those emails out automatically without knowing for sure if the order will be fulfilled or not. I asked to make sure my order is done with and I won't be charged in the future but I didn't get a reply.

Anyone else order from Newegg and get their card already? Did the tracking number given work right away or did you have to wait a couple days for it to show up on fedex? I got mine yesterday and the tracking number still doesn't go anywhere.

I got the tracking last night and it wasn't working but today it is.

It also matters that they have lower PSU requirements. 500 watt would be more fit for a midrange system. One reason I did not have to switch the 4 year old 650w Silverstone PSU.

An 980ti would have lead the PSU to its limits. The 1080 along with an i7 4xxx gen CPU can use 3/4 of the PSU at max setting

No it wouldn't have.

It can take a day or two sometimes. Don't worry about it.

It took a few hours for Fed Ex to load the Tracking # in the system.

The Gainward Phoenix GS is looking good so far. The highest temp I've seen so far was 73 degrees, but it mostly hovers around 68. I played two 30-minute sessions of Doom at 1440p with everything set to the absolute maximum (including AA and the available Nightmare settings), and got 110-120 FPS most of the time. It appears to boost to around 1950 MHz without any manual OC.

Okay cool I have tracking now, I'm really lucky the estimated delivery is tomorrow and I only ordered it yesterday with the cheapest shipping. I expected it next week. Or maybe that's when leaves FedEx and I will get it next week. Oh well I have to work all weekend anyway.

It's a shame you don't have a Rift so that you can advantage of its super sampling.

Can't afford to get my 1080 until August and then will be getting my Rift in November and the wait is killing me lol.

Once I do get my 1080 I'll have a pretty tasty VR machine:

An Intel i7 6700K
An Asus Maximus VIII Ranger motherboard
32GB of HyperX Fury 2133 DDR4
A 1080 of some description lol
An In-Win GR-One case with 3 extra fans
A 120GB SSD and 2 hard drives
An EVGA 850W G2 Power Supply

And yes, I may look like I've gone overboard with my RAM and PSU but the RAM will come in handy when I'm developing and the PSU choice is because I'm going to be adding a second 1080 at some point. :oD

huh?

The Rift has a debug tool in the Oculus SDK that allows you to super sample all games' resolution up to 200% if you have a machine beefy enough to handle it. And even if your machine struggles with it you have the advantage of ATW to smooth things out.

I'm surprised that Valve haven't got a similar sort of thing in the Open SDK tbh.

I'm convinced Amazon is never actually getting Gaming X's in. Tomorrow will be two weeks since they put the preorders up, still no ETA in site.

Really makes me glad I jumped on that Newegg order a while back and cancelled all of my Amazon pre-orders. Nasty situation.

This is 77 pages long, so apologies if my question has already been answered: have there been any reviews posted that include a discussion/comparison of fan noise for the non-Nvidia 1080s? I have zero interest in overclocking, I just want the quietest 1080 available. I'd ordinarily go with Evga, but the 680 Evga I have is insanely loud, so I want to go into my 1080 purchase fully informed.

Lmao. Just ordered this despite no need at all for the mouse, because it has literally been the first non-FE card I've been able to add to a shopping cart.

Will probably give away the mouse or offer it for extremely cheap if anyone is interested.

This is completely unscientific and I haven't seen any comparisons like that yet, but I imagine the 2-fan designs to be quieter than 3-fan ones, and MSI and Zotac seem to have the biggest fans (which would be quieter than smaller fans). So that's my instinct

Just waiting on my FTW from Amazon. It's only the last piece of my new build. Any day now... :(

Hopefully the rumor for next week is correct.

I believe MSI Gaming X(and non X) is the quietest, but they are overpriced compared to higher clocked cards. Or you can try looking for an MSI Seahawk which is a hybrid/all in one water loop card.

The Gainward cards are also considered very good in this regard, perhaps the best. It's hard to get a decent comparison until someone can review all the cards side by side, but this was a card that, in the test I saw, was barely even audible when its fans spun up.

Thanks for the opinions! I'll keep an eye out and see if I can snag one of the cards you mentioned.

Hope so haha.

In all seriousness, these cards seem to all be performing very very very similarly.

dear God help me. I'm without VGA since 2 weeks now, and can't play cos only FE are avabile. How much we have we to wait for customs? I can't resist a week more ...

Customs is trash in every country I see. When I ordered my monitor it came to my country in 3 days from Korea, customs had it for 11.

While I agree that customs are annoying, he was probably refering to the partner cards with custom PCB/cooling solution :D

Also a buyers beware, OCUK is jacking up the prices due to GBP instability -- don't order, I bet the will take their sweeeeet time to readjust the prices back to normal level. Gross, how about just waiting a few more hours until things have probably stabilized a bit.
