Well, WWE fans are mostly dumb, they are the people who chant USA in a match between 2 Canadians. So I don't give a fuck what they WANT. Like Fans on paper would probably enjoy the TNA shenanigans, but in reality, they're terrible.
But Reigns isn't even what the fans NEED. He's boring as fuck. Poorly booked, and they haven't given us a reason to care. Which means he needs a huge rewrite.
Seth Rollins (as Tyler Black) was a HATED champion in Ring of Honor because his lack of personality and spot monkey nature had no charisma, and even as a good guy, no one cared. And his rewrite for the WWE has been amazing. We like Ambrose. Owens.
Like Reigns needs to do some crazy shit to get me to care, and stop just being the stoic "underdog" in black, because it doesn't work. Also the spear just doesn't work.
Yeah, I'm not saying that WWE should always give the fans what they want. A good writer/booker/whatever can create interesting stuff, get people over and get the fanbase engaged.
You've hit the nail on the head in a lot of ways saying basically that he doesn't bring much to the table and that he's not booked well and I totally agree with that.
Specifically what I meant when I talked about what the fans wanted is the core "this really is not getting over" sort of thing. If Vince or whoever thought that Reigns was really talented (I don't think he is, but w/e) giving him a push isn't any sort of a cardinal sin. Sometimes people get pushed and get over, sometimes they don't, it happens.
The issue with Reigns is that the push has just been so forced past the point where it is clearly not working that it's laughable. This year's Wrestlemania was the first WWE show I watched in ages and if it hadn't been so forced that HHH was the heel, I honestly would have thought Reigns was by how badly he was getting booed.
Basically what I'm saying is you don't nessesarily need to give the fans what they want all the time, but ultimately you can only try to force them to care about something for so long before they lash back at you.
