Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

I ran friestrike last night, didn't let it finish because I had to go to bed. First I left the resolution to automatic, cancelled out after the first part and then I set it to 1440p and wow did it run like shit both times. Is that how it is? I didn't mess with any setting besides resolution.

Is the EK 1080 with the water block the best option for putting it into a WC set up right now? I want to replace my 2x7970s that are WC at the moment.

Hard to do any real comparison with "run like shit". Need some data.

I'm quite surprised that I'm unable to hold a steady 60fps on Rocket League at 4k on my MSI Gaming X 1080, especially in split screen.

It's overclocked running at a stable 2000-2075 Mhz but I'm getting quite a few random dropped frames.

Lol, well the frame rate was terrible, sub 30, probably low 20s or less. I'll run the full thing today.

My TV defaults to 30hz for 1440p, I had to manually add a custom resolution in the Nvidia control panel. Might not be your issue but thought I'd give a heads up.

The point of any benchmark is not necessarily to get a really high FPS, it's to give you a baseline of comparison between different OC's and/or different components. Some of the benches in 3DMark are going to crush your hardware no matter what your configuration is.

Another noob at overclocking GPUs here. I played around with the settings in Afterburner

Didn't notice any glitches or any problems running Witcher 3 1440p unlocked fps, and when running the firestrike extreme stress test (got a value of 97%), but when looking at the temperatures it went up to 90C during the stress test, that can't be safe right? Would appreciate any help before I mess things up.

Edit: Tweaked some more with the settings, think I should be good now.

Cracked and bought the Asus Strix - it's a nice upgrade over my PNY reference 780 Ti but I'd be lying if I said it was omg life changing, I'm guess I'm just getting higher standards :S Anyway it's definitely quieter and uses less power that's for sure and finally hitting the gold standard 144fps on a lot more games at max (or close) settings.

Damn do I love Craigslist. All three for $600 a piece. Apparently he has a lot more in stock...somehow.
If anyone is close to NYC, I can pass along his info if you're still waiting to get one.

Yikes, sounds like something fell off the back of a truck, so to speak.
Lol yep. Got an early copy of Halo 5 that someone "found on the sidewalk".

So I ordered the Strix from Amazon. If they manage to get it here Saturday, I'll get a comparison up of that and the EVGA SC over the weekend.

"Guys, guys, I got a great idea! Let's push out another SKU when we failed spectacularly to deliver the already existing ones one month after launch and counting!"

EVGA FTW DT, same PCB, same cooler as FTW but stock clocks... this basically puts the regular FTW in the same pointless situation as the SC. Pay 30$ for a mild overclock. These guys really are shitting the bed.

Finally! Time to see if I got lucky with the overclocking on this baby.

Can't be as unlucky as me and my 1080 Gaming X. Very quickly crashes at around 1944MHz, 10MHz less than that is 24/7 stable. It's not a huge issue but of course slightly disappointing.

PSA for anyone that ordered a Strix from Amazon yesterday. If your order didn't ship immediately and says "Shipping Friday" then youre officially on backorder status. They sold too many and have no eta on when they're getting the next shipment

That kind of shocks me. I OC my monitor to 100hz and Rocket league never dropped a frame at 3440 x 1440. I know its not 4k but it can't be THAT big of a difference, can it?

I don't see how anything negative can be taken from this. It's faster to get untested cards to market. Also, what did you think would happen to cards that didn't pass their OC testing internally? They're going to get sold in some fashion, obviously.

People that think this makes the regular FTW pointless can simply save money by making a choice. Choice is a good thing.

Just got an email from Amazon saying I needed to approve my item since its been delayed. Got excited for a second but I sure hope these puppies ship out soon!

I hope Amazon includes a copy of Half-Life 3 with my G1. In two days, it'll have been a month since I pre-ordered and Amazon still "[needs] a little more time to provide [me] with a good estimate."

I'm not overly fussed as I got in at the USD$611 price and already have a 980 Ti, but some time this month would be nice all the same.

My 2126MHz clock was slightly unstable in games, went down to 2100 now and it's been all good.

Doom runs great (above the 120fps I want) maxed out and Overwatch is all maxed out with 141% rendering resolution and I still get 130+ at 1080p.

Got that same email. Bummer. Oh well the 970 is pushing the Rift just fine and everyday without my 1080 is day I am not tempted to spend a small fortune on a new monitor.

I'm not sure about OCing my G1 either *shrug* South FL ambient temps scare me for pushing my PC

You shouldn't worry about it. The card actually overclocks itself without you doing anything. You probably won't get 2100mhz letting it do so, but my card routinely clocks itself up to 2000mhz without me touching a thing. It will then thermally throttle down by itself. As long as the card is staying cool enough you will get a decent overclock without touching anything. I'm more concerned about the fan making noise than getting the last couple percent of performance from the card.

Anybody know how to use the Precision XOC and OC Scanner X? I feel like I do not know what I am doing and there is no step by step documentation.

The cold hard reality that I'm never ever getting my EVGA 1080 from Amazon is setting in. But I've turned that corner. I'm just enjoying Stardew Valley now. Who needs graphics. Or the ability to use their expensive monitor? Not me. That's who. Next up, Undertale!

Glad I cancelled that Newegg order. The other dude last page said they were doing annual stocking, lol.

My Zotac FE came in today. First time purchasing a reference card and am real happy with it.

Was beginning to think I had made a mistake buying the reference edition after reading a ton of posts about bad cooling/design but this thing just works. The blower setup isnt noisy ( or a just about the same noise as the EVGA 780 i replaced it with).

Temps sticking around low 70's for the games i was curious to try ( witcher 3 and overwatch); every other game i throw at it just flies. Doom '16 looks amazing with everything maxed out.

Hell i was even able to be more aggressive with the overclocks ( +225 core/+675 mem) with no issues. I know this is just anecdotal but the reference cards just seem to run great so initial worries were averted.

Just contacted Amazon on the phone about my FTW card. They said that it might ship out next week is what it looks like from their end. I also was able to finagle a $15 gift card out of them for the trouble. Y'all should try doing this too. It's definitely worth a shot.

Did the same and they gave me 20% off.

Most of the FUD around the FE model is from people who haven't used one. I liked mine.

Sure, there's a $100 Nvidia tax, but other than that the card is fine.

Shit, I should've held out for more. What'd you say to them?

I just went through the usual inquiry about when.. then told them I was dissatisfied. I was professional about it and all.

The CSR tried to show me that I could buy it from their marketplace for $1200 or whatever.. LOL

Basically just told them that others had been offered a 20% discount for the delay (true) and I quoted to them the bit of text where someone on Nowinstock.net had stated this. She requested the website link, so gave that. She tried to go back to the stupid $1200 marketplace scalpers to show that MSRP was some great price, etc.. and she didn't initially do anything, but said she'd escalate to verify what I was saying was true.

I had an e-mail from the escalation in like an hour reducing my FTW card to this:

Holy cow!

Edit: Will embed the image properly later, didn't know a tiff wouldn't work and it's chow time.

Okay... maybe I'm doing this wrong, but my graphics driver is crashing at very low overclocks (+50) on Firestrike.

I'm a total newbie when it comes to high end AIB cards, and this is my first card with 2 PSU connections (8+6). Do I have to use 2 different ribbons from my PSU to my GPU when connecting those?
